Looks like I'll be having a grog for a while. Time to have Adri go to Build-a-Warrior Workshop. I'm thinking he needs a better sword and his own poltergeist.

How are you today? Just curious if you know much about D&D fifth edition?

Have you ever run it over a forum here before?

I've participated in a game and briefly ran a 3.5 game on forum.

I guess I am wondering how you went about handling rolls, to streamline the experience for a forum game?

So I've seen a few things to help:

1. Configure the dice roller so that its already on d20 and have it record unique dice. It seems minor but it streamlines the whole process.

2. Have players put their AC and attack bonus's as their character biography. It will spare you having to go back and forth between their character sheet to see if an enemy hits them or not. It also helps them when they need to roll dice because their bonuses will be in the same thread as the post.

3. Make sure to give them a character sheet so they can press Character Details and see their skills quickly and on your end just make a cheat sheet of your characters skill totals in scratchpad. If you have the time just request rolls like this:

Tristan roll for Stealth (+5).

That way they don't have to think about it and just keep it moving.

4. Reveal the enemies AC scores in an OOC summary at the end of the post and keep a running initiative at the bottom of each of your major combat updates.

5. Encourage those that have spell slots to use scratchpad to keep track of their uses. Its a simple thing that people overlook often. I honestly wouldn't even bother trying to micromanage that unless you see the wizard doing too much.

6. For the sake of the game pace you might want to abbreviate conversations with NPCs. If they visit the mayor of a village to learn about what's going on in the dungeon just have an info dump. Those sort of interactions are nice in person but just bog down a forum based D&D game.

That's all I have for now. Hope its helpful.

Just curious if there is any particular direction you would like things to go in? At present it is sandbox. If you do have a direction you favour please let me know.

So my current objectives are:

1. Secure the town
2. Get enough undead risen to start reconstruction of the walls and major facilities
3. Learn how to control some of the witches magic and my psychic powers I got from Nina

From there I was going to investigate the neighboring townships and see if I could find a way to monopolize on a situation. Considering Adri's town is devastated with plague I'm assuming refugees will be abundant in the coming weeks and months so perhaps I could convince them to take up residence within my protectorate. They would make a good work force and I can concentrate on more magical matters.

Necromancy if applied properly can easily keep disease and sickness away. Also I have an abundance of marsh land that can be useful for growing crops with proper maintenance and irrigation.

In the midst of that I'll be turning Adri into a guardsman so that I don't have to focus too much on combat magic. I'm not a swordsman so I'll probably look to bind a warrior ghost to my service so that he can instruct Adri once he builds up some strength. Also going to procure him a serviceable blade and bind a poltergist to it so he can have a phantasmal weapon.

Very long term goals are to learn alchemy and take on proper apprentices.

For the past several days I have been trying to get into the flow of things again but it all has gone still and the cold is really doing me in physically. I am not sure what this means for the game. Continued patience or an acceptance I may not be able to run it anymore? Let me know what your preference is.

That's the blessing of living so far south, it's already back to the 70s. I hope you get out of the snow soon. I'll be around.
