Vampires of New Orleans

Vampires of New Orleans by Night
New Orleans is a Camarilla held city.  It is ruled by the Tremere Prince Malfeader, though he seems to care little for politics.  He maintains his hold on the city by being the most feared Kindred in the City, and his influence is based purely on his personal power and his ruthless use of blood magic.  He cares nothing for the city and its kindred except for the resources they provide him when needed.  He leaves the ruling of the city to his primogen who constantly struggle against each other for status.  He only has three rules.
One, that he is treated with the respect a prince deserves.  While he cares nothing for ruling, he loves the ceremony and pomp associated with it.
Two, that when he needs resources, whether that be money, kindred, or other things, that they are provided with haste.
Lastly that the primogen handle the daily grind of rulership and keep the problems of the city from reaching him.  If a problem arises that he must involve himself, his actions are usually to remove the current head of the clan with the most status as a warning for the others to handle things themselves.
The risk of leading the clan with the most status is high, but so are the rewards.  The primogen of the clan that sits highest is effectively a Prince, as Malfeader will usually defer to them on the law of progeny, and destruction.  It is sometimes difficult though, to know which clan sits highest with the Prince, as there is no official reckoning.  The best way to ensure a clan stay high on the princes list of to make sure the other clans are not.  The fastest way for a primogen to lose status is for the Prince to request something they cannot provide, but another can.
Below is some general information about the Clans.

Tremere: Clan Tremere is a powerful clan in New Orleans.  It has nothing to do with the fact that the prince is Tremere though, as he treats them no different from any other clan.  This is well known and a source of embarrassment for the Tremere.  Like members of this enigmatic clan in other places, not much is known about the inner working of the Tremere clan or their purpose.  The bulk of the clan live together with the Primogen Lazarus Walker.  While his name is well known, not many have met him, as he is the leader of the New Spring Day Cult.  He has a following of over 60 people, and has a fenced in compound in the edge of the city.  He embraces only from his membership and they are all fanatically loyal to him.

Ventrue: The Ventrue clan is rather small but influential in New Orleans.  While most other places the Ventrue see the way to power through mortal resources and influence and have tried the same thing here, but have not met with as much success as hoped for.  The prince doesn’t care much for mortal influence and only respects the fact that they can keep things quiet and are good at providing him money when he needs it.  The Ventrue Primogen is Lawrence Clark, a local business man who owns the New OrlĂ©ans tribune and several local news affiliates.

Brujah: The Brujah make up a bulk of the anarchs in the city.  They are mostly young and violent, and make up some of the most dangerous gangs in the city.  Uncle Larell, the Brujah Primogen got his spot by violence.  It’s unknown what happened to the last Brujah Primogen, but he hasn’t come back to reclaim his leadership yet.  Larell and several other Brujah fought for control and Uncle Larell was the only one standing at the end.  Larell is a local gang leader, and runs the Gotti boys.  The Brujah have more members than they should as Uncle Larell doesn’t really stick to rules much.  He doesn’t know really know much about vampire society and doesn’t care much to learn.  The rest of the clans see him as a risk, but the prince has yet to give permission to destroy him.  The rest of the Brujah are mostly new and were created by Uncle Larell himself.  He usually rewards good members of the gangs with embrace.  They are deep in the drug trade, and are known for being violent and ruthless.

Malkavian: The Malkavians seem to fit into two groups.  One that seems completely stable and sane, and the other those that are stark raving mad.  The Malkavian Primogen is known only as the accountant.  He works for Uncle Larell managing the gang’s money that they make from the drug trade.  He seems to have little to no interest in Politics.  There are two other Malkavians that seem to be rather stable though their connection to the accountant or why they defer to him is unknown.  One works for the Ventrue as a “fixer”.  The other runs the East Louisiana State Hospital for the Insane.  The remaining Malkavians are guests as their derangement make them a risk to society.  The abundance or supernatural forces in New Orleans, is especially tough for Malkavians to deal with. Their heightened senses  often lead them open to malicious spirits that other Kindred, with more stable personalities are resistant to.  This usually causes a Malkavians derangement to get out of control, hence the need to lock them up away from society, lest the endanger the masquerade.

Toreador: The Toreador are a powerful and influential clan in New Orleans.  Their Primogen, Dalia Desjardin, leads the clan.  They run a lot of the business in the French quarter and have a lot of influence with Kine leaders.  One of the most famous Mardi Gras Krewes in run by the toreador and known for its all-night parades and parties.  New Orleans rich art and cultural history is a large draw for toreador, assuring they have access to new recruits of the appropriate kind.

Gangrel: Not many Gangrel call New Orleans their home, but it is not uncommon for visiting clan members to stay for a while.  They either join up with the anarchs to cause some trouble before going on their way, or they spend time with Davon, the Gangrel boss.  Davon grew up on the outskirts of the city, in the bayou.  Due to his Cajun upbringing, he is often looked at as a bumpkin, but he has great influence due to his ability to broker a peace deal with the Rougarou.  Due to this he can ignore some of etiquette that the rest of the city lives on. Not only does there seem to be a mutual respect between the lupine and the Gangrel, some even say there is a friendship.

Nosferatu: With no subways, sewers or many of the other dank and dark places Nosferatu favor, New Orleans is not as favoring to the clan as most other places, however some see the political climate in the city perfect for their unique skills.  The Nosferatu primogen is Archibald Meeks.  A mysterious and powerful kindred who may very well be hundreds of years old.  The Nosferatu live among the dead in St Louis Cemetery #1, one of the city’s famous necropolises.  With most graves being above ground in elaborate family tombs, and the cemetery laid out with actual streets and the place is a natural fit for the clan.

Caitiff: These clan-less find that New Orleans is not a safe place for them.  The Rigid status structure,  that the clan-less always find themselves at the bottom of, makes life difficult for them to stay in the city for any length of time.  The only place they find acceptance is with the anarchs, and even there they find it difficult to fit in.

Other Clans
Follower of Set:  This clan has long had their eye on New Orleans and in the past before Malfeader there were many struggles for control of the city.  Since the coming of the Tremere prince though, the Setites has not made any true plays for power.  No one is really sure why, but some think it may be due to Malfeador’s connection to mage community.  In the past Setites have been able to leverage the kine’s voodoo practitioners for assistance, and information, but with a Prince who seems to have firm control over the mortal’s magic community, those avenues are closed.  Still the followers of set as sneaky as the reptiles they’re so fond of, and there is no doubt they are constantly looking for a way to rid themselves of the Prince and regain their influence in the darkest corners of the city.

Sabbat: The Sabbat or almost entirely unheard of this far south, and as far as anyone knows, no member of the sect has been seen in the city for over 50 years.

Other Clans: From time to time other kindred from other clans may pass through the city, though they are not allowed to stay.  Malfeader is not against having kindred loyal to him, paying these stragglers a visit to remind them it is time to leave.
