Magic

The basic magic in the In Darkest Warrens system is very limited. Each magic-using class (mage, warlock and priest) begins with three specific spells, and there are no methods provided for learning new spells, though the three spells gradually become more effective as the characters rise in levels. This GM might be open to the concept that a high-level magic-user might be able to create new spells, subject to GM approval. Like all other actions in this game, casting a spell involves passing a test by rolling above the character's ability number with a d6; for mages and warlocks the ability is "Mind," for priests it is "Person." (see Character Creation thread) Each spell can only be cast one time in a specific combat situation.

Mage Spells are from the original In Darkest Warrens. Warlock and Priest spells are from the Adventurer's Guide Supplement:

MAGE SPELLS All spells usable once per combat  Hold:  Test Mind to freeze an opponent in  place for 1 round per class level.  Heal: Test Mind to heal target 1 wound  per class level. Hex:Test Mind. Target has 1 to attack  for 1 round per class level. Penalties don't  stack.

PRIEST PRAYERS Usable once per combat.   Wrath: Test Person to stun target for a  number of rounds equal to class level. Doom: Test Person to paralyse target  undead for a number of rounds equal to  class level.  Heal:Test Person to heal target 1 wound  per class level.

WARLOCK SPELLS Usable once per combat.  Scourge: Test Mind to give target the  diseased condition for rounds equal to  class level.
Shadow: Test Mind to fill a 10x10ft area  within 20ft with shadow tentacles. Anyone  starting their turn in this area is pinned  and takes 1 wound.  Lasts for rounds equal  to class level. Anyone who is pinned may  use an action to Test Brawn to break free.
Summon: Test Mind to take 1 wound to  summon a demon with a roll equal to  caster’s Mind attribute. The demon exists  for rounds equal to double class level. The  demon obeys only the warlock. The warlock can only summon one demon at a time.
