Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider

Seeing the spiders nearly beaten Sarah came down from her rage. She swung at the creature to finish it off, but it was a weak blow.

Ooc lol getting cute and dropping rage to conserve rounds and paying for it!

Hit a.c. 17 for 4.

Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider

Arell dashes around to behind the spider and goes for another overhead strike.  This the spider dodges with far more alacrity than Arell would have suspected.

He briefly considers commissioning an appropriately sized fly-swatter to prevent this from happening agin.

OOC Arell moves to [7, 28] and tries the whole "chop em in half" thing again.

22:54, Today: Arell Kirkwood rolled 9 using 1d20+5.  Attack vs spider AC 14 Power Attack +bless.

The dice roller has apparently returned to its favorite pass time of making combat "interesting" by making me miss.

I mean, really, is it so wrong to want to resolve combat in one hit? XD

Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider

Nomerendal scampered around the henge again, trying to find a place where he might get off a decent shot. Just when he had one lined up however, Dorak and Sara waded in against the giant arachnid, forcing the gnome to pull his shot upward at the last instant.

"Bother and buggerage!" he swore, for it was another arrow he'd have no chance to recover.

Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider

Francis moved to get a better aim on the bug, and a jet of scalding steam shout out at the arachnid, causing it to shrivel a little more.

the redness fading from her eyes, Sara swung her bardiche, obviously weakened from her fatigue brought on by raging, the bardiche cut into its chitin.

Dorak moved to engage the spider, but misjudged its speed as his hammer met empty air.

Once again Fidget threw a globule of acid and missed the mark. Rocks melted where it struck.

Arell moved into a better position and swung his blade, almpost tripping over a spider body and his swing went awry.

Nomerendal, took position up behind the stones of The Henge and launced an arrow at the arachnid again...it went over the top and passed by Arell.....striking the dirt beyond.

Rolf savaged the giant spider tearing a leg from its body as greenish ichor spewed out covering the dog. The spider fell to the ground unmoving. 08:56, Today: DM Dread rolled 19 using 1d20+4.  Rolf vs Spider AC 14. 08:56, Today: DM Dread rolled 9 using 1d6+3.  damage to the spider.

"Well Fidget, it looks like we've found a way to send you home... we just have to stick around for the next full moon." Nom teased his 'cousin'. He was quite intrigued by, what they'd come to determine, what was apparently a ritual circle.

"I wonder... If this portal opened not long ago, maybe that's where these ettercap creatures came from. I suppose the question is this: Who opened it?"

Nomerendal looked at the opening in the ground.

"I suppose down there might be our answer Francis. I suppose you ought to go first so your name will be first when the tale of discovery is written..."

I really do need to rest but I'm not sure out here in a spider infested woods is really that safe. We know whats out here we don't know whats down below it might be a much more secure-able location to sleep. However before we go in I want cast a spell or two, I can make both Arell and Sara harder to hit, and help them avoid magics and poisons and stuff. It will only last about 9 minutes so I want to do it just before we enter.

Can't really set up a safe camp without scouting the immediate area anyways, right? Then if it looks like it'll be a big slog, we can set camp and recover before heading in deeper."

moving through the archeway in the center of the Henge, they entered a cave that headed down into the earth turning to the left, as they headed into the darkness, torches let in Doraks and Fidgets hands they could see both from the light coming in from behind them and the torchlight...but they heard the approaching giant spider before they saw it... legs skittering along the cave floor then they saw it approach.

Larger than every other arachnid they had fought. this was as big as a horse. a set of mandibles the size of scimitars with sharp points on the inside for grabbing prey, while smaller jaws snap inside the sword like mandibles. for tearing flesh and consumeing while the prey is held.

Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider

The cramped corridor was suddenly filled by another terrible and enormous chitinous mass! Nom thought to jockey for position with his companions in order to get an arrow down the tunnel and possibly embedded into the massive arachnid, only doing so would either end up with him blocking another of his companions or sticking Arell in the rear-end... again. The grumpy clerk hated when Nom did that, and every time threatened to round his pointy ears! It being dark and gloomy in here anyway, the little gnomish bard decided to ply his fey magic in a way that might actually help his companions to see better and possibly distract the spider as well!

"Bobbing, weaving, shining bright... dancing, leaping, man of light!"

And then, sitting astride the giant spider was the faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid shape of light. In one hand it spun wisps of rope-like sparkles, in he other it seemed to hold a wide brimmed, sparkling hat! The glow changed colors randomly, first yellow, then blue, then green, red next and so on. The little fellow seemed to be thoroughly enjoying his ride, determined to break the loathsome critter to ride!

OOC: Holding Move until others act and possibly create space. The following action has 100ft range, so Nom ought to be able to squeeze up enough to get it down range... somehow

Invoking Dancing Lights cantrip, gnomish spell-like ability, to create a spider-wrangler! If it doesn't distract the spider at all, maybe it'll help teammates see their target better, or at least garner a chuckle in a dark and dangerous place... ;-)

Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider

I normally dont like to alter the flow of posts vs order of combat....reasoning---if shed rolled a hit, Dorak wouldnt have used that. But since Sara hasnt been with us this long Ill allow it this time. Just know its not normally going to be allowed. In posts you can always say things like "Will wait for this to happen" or "My combat will trigger once this occurs"

A quick discussion occurs in the cave entrance about how to do this, and Francis is the first to act. 11:23, Today: DM Dread rolled 21 using 1d20+3.  dc 14 scalding steam save. 11:23, Today: DM Dread rolled 4 using 1d4+1.  damage halved. and a cloud of scalding steam was emitted from his nozzle enveloping the creature and burning it.

Then Nomerendal moved up behind Francis and light shaped man-sized figure appeared astride the giant spider, the creature became distracted tryign to rid itself of the creature atop it, though it did not feel any weight. Ill give it a -2 on all rolls from its distraction and it will be AC -2 as well. because it is mindless and would not be able to understand what was going on

Dorak moved in front of Sara and explained he was going to lock in her abiloity to attack to always be above 50% but she would never get a solid blow. And utilzed his Torag given gift.

Sara nodded as she rused up next to Francis and swung her hafted axe-blade and cut into the creature.

Fidget moved up throwing a globe of acid at the creature , but even distracted as the creature was...it still missed the mark. Stone sizzled beneath its body.

Arell rushed forward, glad those scimitar like jaws could reach 10 feet away, and his sword smashed into the giant arachnid with great force causing its large body to almost hit the caves floor from the blow, before it raised back up ready to attack.

Rolf rushed forward with the others, next to Arell, jaw snapping but this time he couldnt get close enough to a leg to connect. 11:38, Today: DM Dread rolled 6 using 1d20+4.  attack on giant spider AC 13.

The large arachnid tried to grab Arell in its pincer jaws, but he managed to deflect the jaws with his blade. 11:42, Today: DM Dread rolled 13 using 1d20+4.  attack on Arell AC 16.
