Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider

Nomerendal kept quiet... which may have been a first, but his attempt to 'grease the wheels' had backfired terribly, and though he was amazed that Boss Teedum was agreeable after that, the gnome didn't wish to make matters worse. Instead, he gave Eldrin a shrug and tried to fade into the general business of the tavern.

"Not so smooth there Nom," he muttered to himself. "You'd better practice a bit before you try that again..."

~~~
He waited for the Log Boss to leave and then joined his companions.
"Sorry everyone, didn't realize Payday would take such a dislike to my rhyme!"
Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
Rennick was getting frustrated by the interjections of the group.
First, he had asked for a strong dark wood bow, but then Fidget had nullified that request by speaking about 'free access to..."
Now he had asked for a wagonmaker and the elf and half elf had nullified that request by their interjections.
So, Rennick wasn't going to ask for anything anymore. If the others wanted to frustrate him, let them take care of it themselves.
Dorak takes the arm of the adorable Gnome and answers gallantly "My pleasure, milady. Let's see if there are any goods we can buy to improve our fortunes. Rennick, c'mon. Perhaps the high market has what you seek." He guides the Gnome lass past Payday and towards the High Market. He tells her "I have Tarack's building to stay in. We can have a private conversation either before or after market. Whichever you prefer."
Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
The party makes their way from The Sitting Duck to the wooden gates of high town, where the guards allow entry after gaining permission and the group finds themselves in the small hilltop surrounded by a wooden palisade with buildings surrounding a central courtyard. Kreeds Manor could be seen to the left of the gate with 2 Consortium Guards out front. A low squat mossy stone tower was on the north edge, a slim dark haired teen left it and headed to Kreeds where a chubby teen met him after a few and the two started joking around as they headed for the gate.
Towards the east side of the hill was a group of wagons that were the Lumber Consortium owned caravanserai. Falcons Transport. Nearby the High Market was just opening up.
heres how we will do this. if theres something you are looking for thats 10 Gold to 1000 Gold there's a 25% chance it's available now. Otherwise you can place an order and it'll be here in a week
Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
Eldrin walked through the market and surveyed the work that had been done using darkwood. After a while he'd heard and seen enough to know that there was a fletcher of some skill in the middle of the market. He made his way to his area and though the man had many bows and arrows, he didn't seem to have one that was made perfectly for Eldrin.
They spent some time discussing it and Eldrin tested out different pieces of wood and the fletcher told him, "When you get back, I'll have a bow made to your particular style and shooting strength."
Eldrin nodded, saying "Thank you, and I would love to learn more about the arrows you make as well."
Dorak looks through the market offerings. As suspected, there was little in the way of armor, and no darkwood shields. But he looks for a few steel bands and raw darkwood, both of which should be in stock. From those, he himself could craft a darkwood shield with the tools he had at hand.
11:50, Today: Dorak Fellhammer rolled 44 using 1d100.  Darkwood Shield.
Rennick looks for horses and finds a light combat-trained horse.
He says to the merchant: "Is this horse combat-trained? And do you sell it with riding saddle and bit and bridle?"
Rennick looks at the horse carefully, trying to see if it is hurt or sick.
OOC: 17:56, Today: Rennick Hitman rolled 16 using 1d100.  Light combat-trained horse.
So it should be available. 110 gp according to pathfinder rules.
Fidget and Dorak head towards the Stone Tower where the Town Wizard, reclusive Shavaros Vade resides.
Meanwhile Francis starts looking around while Rennick leads his newly obtained Horse from the Caravanserai area. Eldrin stands near Nomerendal and Arell as they walk around the marketplace of those merchants who've obtained favoured from The Consortium.
As Fidget and Dorak are approaching the Tower,After I'm finished with the wizard perhaps we can see if any healing can be purchased at the temple, be for we go to your place. Oh and by the way thank you for standing up for my people at the bar, I haven't told the rest yet but I am part fey.
After entering the small court yard fidget walks up to the door and knocks on it then turns to Dorak. I'm going to see if I can get a few scrolls, you can wait out here if you like, but I would feel a bit safer if you'd join me.
Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
In reply to DM Dread (msg # 42):
Rennick buys saddlebags and 40 lbs. of horse feed at the low market, so that his horse doesn't suffer starvation on their next mission.
OOC: saddlebags: these sturdy, weatherproof bags are draped over a saddle to add extra carrying capacity. Each side of a saddlebag can typically carry 20 pounds of items that can fit in the bags. Saddlebags do not increase the amount of weight a mount can carry; they merely give riders a place to stow their equipment.
Herbivore animal feed is listed as being 10 lbs. per day, cost 5 cp per day. So 40 lbs. is enough for 4 days and costs 2sp.
I'll make the changes on my character sheet.
Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
Francis asks around until he's directed to the person who sells some carpentry tools.
"Good day my fine sir," he greeted him very officially and even bowed a little. "I'm here to pick up a parcel, from The Consortium strictly for Consortium official business, which I assume was ordered by Mr.Payday for the benefit of Mr.Payday upon the completion of the task assigned to us personally by Mr.Payday, with which we cannot accomplish without," he said very very officially with his back so straight and his chest puffed out so much you'd think his nipples were attached to a pair of charging elephants. he paused for a moment then he broke the stance for a moment and half-laughingly poked the man in the side with his elbow "And that would not make Mr.Payday happy as I'm sure you can imagine, ha ha. None of us want that, ha ha. No siiiireeee.". It was a nervous kind of joking fun meant to dissolve tension, but not diminish gravity.
Francis was quite pleased with himself. It's just as his elocution professor had once told them, "If you want to be important, drop important names in your conversations,". Once. Francis felt like he had perhaps been too hasty in dropping that class after just 1 lesson, but at the time he had far more important fields of study to attend to and time was a finite resource.
Dorak and Fidget reach the tower door. There is a brass knocker on the stout oak door in the shape of a demonic face.
The toolmaker looks at Francis and chuckles boyo, i been comin to high market for nigh onto 5 years and never...NEVER...once did the Consortium give ANYTHING free. and i really doubt Payday wouldve said that. whys dont we ask a guard to send fir him to see...or perhaps you mean he gave you permission to shop here as most dont and you want a little favorable consideration since you're working for the Consortium? Ehh?
Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
"Oh dear," said Francis, but not in a way concerned for himself but rather as someone who had just seen someone get in trouble. "Well I never said for free, in all honesty I don't want the damn tools for myself anyway, I assumed the idea was to impart them upon me for the duration of the mission. But thank you for denying them, I am grateful to you sir for taking on my responsibilities" he vigorously shakes the man's hand in enthusiastic gratitude. Foreseeing confusion he decided to clarify "You see, the Consortium needs investigating what happened to the last shipment and if the problem was a broken wheel on the wagons someone to fix them. I foolishly pointed out that I could do it if I had the right tools, I know, I'm an idiot. Mr.Payday wants me to go there along with the investigation party and fix the thing, for FREE I might add, but if I can't be of service through no fault of my own since I don't have the tools nor means of acquiring them even though I have the skill, then I guess Mr.Payday will simply have to expend more resources, time and energy to hire someone from the Consortium and send them in my place. Once again, I am so glad you have released me of this burden. I'll be sure to notify Mr.Payday that the Consortium needs to make additional measures on your authority, or better yet why don't we have a guard do it, that was a wonderful idea by the way!" he turns his back on him for a moment "Guard? Guard! A word please!" then turns right back "What did you say your name was again? Hm, better make this official as well."  Francis then pulls out a sheet of paper, ink and quill, sits down and starts righting an official looking document, "I'll need your signature at the bottom of this" he says absentmindedly without looking up as he drafted it.
Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
Fidget's all dimples, bright smile and big green eyes when the wizard comes to the door. Good day Sir my name is Fidget Mossgrower. Excuse me for interrupting your day Mr wizard Sir. But I've been searching all over the town for any magic scrolls that could help me and my friends when we go out to fix things for the town. Like fixing the poison well, and now find out what happened to the Lumber jacks and shipment of lumber that have gone missing, and every one says the same thing. The only place you might find it is at Vade's Tower, or you'll have to go see Sharavos Vade for that .
Fidget pauses to let her request sink in. On our first mission I saw a flying reptile scoop up a man and his horse. Faced talking wolves, a giant spider,  Mist breathing chameleon lizard in a tree. and then got swallowed by a big pot. The little Talent and knowledge I have, where magic is concerned is clearly not enough. I don't want a handout and I have some money. I'm just trying to find a few scrolls that might help us survive our adventures.
Fidget swallows, I really hope you can help me Mr Sharavos Sir I have no where else to turn if you say no. I just know that well prepared or not, I'm going back out with my friends to investigate whats going on around here. In my heart I know the things we are trying to do are right, and some body needs to do them. If not us who?
Re: Falcons Hollow II: Along Came A Spider
The Toolmaker was looking at Francis as if he was the absolute strangest person he'd ever seen.
This is an interesting turn of events. and one that Im absolutely sure would cause me some slight worry....except you arent aware how I got myself into The High Market...yasee Boyo, I was a lumberjack. Then one day, one of them big lumberhaulers broke down. I repaired the wheel just as you are sayin you are fixin to do now...but yasee fixin the wheel didnt get me this stall...it was my suggestion to Payday afterwards to keep a set of tools in each camp for wagon repair...and my donating 4 sets of tools to the Consortium for this very thing. So yasee, Ize knows the Consortium has those very tools at each camp, and one in the HQ over there, he points with his chin at a large hall-like structure next to Kreeds Manor. so Ize knows that Payday knows this...and wouldna be sendin some poppinjay to ask me for a set if he had any intention of actually givin them the set...because hes got a set already....
Meanwhile at the Tower the dark haired unwashed man looked down at the fey-like gnome, and blinked a couple times and said Im not sure what you might need...but Id be willing to sell you some of my meager stores. Im more of a research wizard than one who makes a living selling creations. What scrolls or potions are you hoping to find? defenses? attacks? general?
