Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

No as to how difficult PF2 is...after reading most the rulebook I can say...

A. It's not more difficult, in fact it's probably less 'mathfinder' than PF1

B. I didn't see rules 'everywhere' . They just restate the rule in locations that's referencing them. It's all fairly intuitive.

C. There are huge changes though.

First AoO--- class feature for Fighter only. Champion and Monk CAN  get the ability through choices.

Second. 3 actions.
3 characters. Example
Wizard. 1. Recall knowledge. 2. Cast cantrip. 3. Move
Fighter 1. Raise shield. 2. Strike. 3. Strike at -5
Druid 1. Command Companion. 2&3. Cast 2 action spell.

As an example

4. Lots of character differences with each class.

5.mental adjustment for encumbrance using bulk.

6.mental adjustment for less coinage and less costs of items ..

Are some of them

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

I like new especially as I can't remember anything!

So 3 (don't care A or B but would rather NOT do pow or spheres nor quick jump to level 5 PF2, as I've never played PF2 beyond level 2 yet! )
2
1

Also PF2 imho works much better with optional rules especially free archetype

3b(pf2) D--+A-3+F-0+N-3+S-3[9]

So with the votes in..

Looks like the majority want to do anew PF2 adventure.

The question comes to mind. Francis? Dorak? Are you willing to partake? Try it out?

Or does that put you out?

Coming in second is continuing falcons hollow in pf1. As we stand right now...but I don't blame everyone from feeling meh about that since 3 years is a long time to be away from the desire to do what attracted you to it in the first place

Any thoughts before I slam the gavel down and move towards the next part.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

The Archive of Nethys has all of the raw material for 2E (and I mean ALL the material) available for easy purusal.

https://2e.aonprd.com/?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

The Youtuber Nonat1s has a comprehensive 'intro to 2E' series of videos to help explain things more naturally.

https://www.youtube.com/playli...T2bOjZuvsG4Jy7AZUVFH

I haven't found any 'actual play' videos that I particularly like, but that should be enough to get you started.

https://pathbuilder2e.com/

And as I mentioned...Pathbuilder is free and can really give you a good bit of info on character builds and such.

You can export character sheets and store them there as well...tracking your levelling. It's easy to use. Handy.

Started to listen to the first video. As soon as I heard about proficiencies in everything, including equipment, well, THAT'S what pissed me off about D&D 4e. If you're doing this, you'll do it without me. The proficiency system limits you too much for skill monkey characters, and everyone else, frankly.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

One more big change for spellcasters.

Spells don't automatically match levels.

Example: if you know Fireball (3rd level spell). You cast a 6d6 fireball.

It won't get more powerful.
To get more powerful you have to learn fireball 4th level...then damage increases to 8d6.

You can get rid of the 3rd level in your spellbook as a wizard and replace it with something else if you want.

It's called 'heightening'.
Cantrips and focus spells auto heithen to half level round up.

Cantrips unlimited casting. Focus spells 1xevery 10 minutes. Additionally each class can use signature spells...1 per level...that get auto heightened.

That may seem difficult to get, but it's actually
Pretty easy to grasp.

It's not what you're thinking.

In pathfinder currently you have the same system. A character is proficient in types of armor and types of weapons.

The only difference now is there's varying degrees of proficiency. That provides a different modifier.

Regular equipment has no rules regarding that.

It doesn't limit any character, in fact...they typically can do more than before.

Here's what I'd suggest...

Go to pathbuilder and build 3-4 characters and see how they look. Before you make an opinion

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

My two favorite characters in 1e are

1) a Hobgoblin Slayer who has a wickedly high Heal skill and the Signature skill Feat.

2) an Unchained Rogue Monkey goblin who can deliver 1d3+8 nonlethal damage with a dagger and is a Fear build, based on the Enforcer feat. He has Minor Magic (Ray of Frost at-will) and Major Magic (Shield, Lvl/2 times a day)

Are both these types buildable and playable in 2e?

Installed Pathbuilder and immediately hit a word salad under options that I don't understand.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

In the middle of creating my first character and already seeing differences. Humans can get an Extra skill, an Extra Feat, but no longer gets both? Other races don't seem to have lost half of THEIR benefits though.
Slayer is no longer a Class, but is a background instead? Backgrounds are like traits?

Keep waiting to see if MORE or BETTER stop by to make an appearance.....

Before I give my answer I need to know, will the character's backgrounds factor in the picture at all? Because with APs they don't. At all.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

Dorak- first ...make sure it's pathbuilder for PF2 you downloaded. The first screen asks if you want to start a new character or load an existing character.

the 'word salad' that initially shows up after that is merely enabling what you want to utilize for building the character.

No to battlezoo material. Yes to adventure  p path material.

As for characters being build able and playable from previous editions...

Since I've been around since the first inception of D&D I can say ...EVERY edition changed things that I had to adjust to...

Yes humans do not get both versatile and an extra feat...nor do dwarves get every thing they used to.

This has been modified sufficiently.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

The initial method of creating a character has you choose first..an Ancestry...(Race with some more delineating things) then a Background (the background fleshes out details of your character. It can be tied to an AP, but it doesnt have to. Yes you can view it as 'traits' Plus some fleshing out ie...it helps decide your initial statistics.

Then your class will put the topper on this .

Can a character from 1st ed be created...yes. will it be 100% the same? no. (but as I said...nor was it ever when going from 1 edition to another.)

as to whether a background will be utilized in the game....besides helping to flesh out your concept of the character, its always been the purview of the DM to make sure that happens....in otherwords...thas my yob mang (in best ricky ricardo accent...or for more modern folks, Spartacus in the bird cage.)

Depends on what you mean by build able and playable I guess. If it's the concept, definitely.

- there is no slayer class true, but fighters and rogues are capable classes in 2e, so don't need unchaining or 'fix' classes
-medicine (2e for heal) is absolutely a vital skill in 2e and non magical healing is useful, possibly even the preferred way of out of combat healing. Far far better than heal in 1e even with skill unlocks
- monstrous races (ancestry and heritage in 2e - yes the terminology drives me nuts to) are available and probably more prevalent in 2e. Though I haven't seen monkey goblin. If it exists it's probably more balanced than in 1e.
-intimidation is an important part of the 2e game but free intimidates on hits are probably higher level than enforcer feat. The feat 'you're next' does give free intimidates when you kill something and I think is available to level 1 rogues
- balance in general is VASTLY improved. It's hard to make a useless character, but it's also hard to create something overpowered with just the right combination of carefully chosen feats.

Your slayer might be a hobgoblin fighter with a focus on feats you build up medicine

Your rogue might be a goblin (?) Rogue with a sorcerer dedication (kind of like vmc in 1e - it's the only way to multi class in 2e) with a focus on feats to improve intimidate. Rogues still get a ton of skill ranks but unlike 1e they're actually good with skills that aren't disable device and stealth

Of course they wouldn't be the same characters but they'd do similar things.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

While Dorak and Francis decide if they want to play, let's start discussing what

Pf2.
APs
1.Age of Ashes---Isger to start, but tours Golarion.cultists, slavers and dragons oh my (1st 2e. Said to be very deadly)
2.Extinction Curse--- (queue 'Must let the show go on)isle of Kortos. Players are members of a circus.
3.Agents of Edgewatch (sing along...bad boys bad boys what ya gonna do...)Absalom.  Players are cops.
4.  Abomination Vaults. (Dungeon crawl on isle of Kortos---3 modules takes to 10th).
5. Fists of the Ruby Phoenix  ---i don't think we should run this with us being relatively new to Pf2. It's 10th+ 3 modules ...martial arts tourney
6.Strength of Thousands. Set in Mwangi Expanse. Defending an ancient magic school.
7.Quest for The Frozen Flame. Vikings riding Mammoths...nuff said.
8. Outlaws of Alkenstar. Cowboys meet magic. Guns are a must 3 modules
9. Kingmaker...the PF2 version.
10. Blood lord's In Geb. That kingdom of the dead....undead is the theme.
11.Gatewalkers (just coming out.) Paranormal investigators.

Or I could just run modules and link them together myself.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

I mean, I don't want you to 'waste' money on us...but who am I to deny you new books should you wish them XD.

Very interested in playing...
Extinction Curse --found two different lists that said it was the best one.
Strength of Thousands --Supposedly very good, and heavy on the RP
Quest for the Frozen Flame --Also very good, but in a different way.

Moderately interested in...
Agents of Edgewatch...played in cop games before, they're fun.
Abomination Vaults...again, I have this one, but it would be nice to see it from the players' side.
Kingmaker...never played, but considered picking it up myself.  Be nice to see how it goes.

None of the others really 'speak' to me, but I'm not going to turn my nose up if they are chosen.

Re: The Darkwood Inn II (OOC)

I'd really like to try Kingmaker or Outlaws. Haven't played either. I'm in a slow moving Ashes game. The others don't seem to appeal to me as much.

I'd be ok with Frozen Flame or Vaults, but not with Nom as a character, I'd use my fighter.

What about a mashup of your other old Rune lords game? 2e Magus looks fun!

Maybe one or two of the Bounty adventures to break the ice for the newbs to 2e?

Also, I'm happy to chip in for whatever we decide.

My thoughts are to start at 1st level ...so new characters. Since we aren't continuing with the falcons hollow storyline.

We will do milestone levelling.

I already downloaded a free intro scenario to being the group together and kick off familiarizing with PF2.

I'll create a new game area  once I know what to call it.

There are a lot of unofficial conversions of 1e aps to 2e. I'm playing in a tyrants grasp, seen hells rebels, war for the crown, lots of others. Since unofficial, quality probably varies.

Kingmaker of course is official conversion. I'm playing that too. It brings in a lot from the video game too. It's been good so far, but we're just early into it (made level 2)
