Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

The door opens and you see a square room that is 20 feet by 20 feet. Except for cobwebs and a collection of garbage in one corner that may be a rat's nest, the room is completely empty.

At southeast corner of the room, you glimpse movement. A section of wall is moving, returning back into place. Someone or something was in this room and they've just left through a secret door leading to the east!

Phelan doesn't find any traps. Anyone wishing to search for the trigger for the secret door will need to roll 1d6 and post the results.

A thief or elf is successful on a 1 or 2. An elf or thief with an Intelligence higher than 15 is successful on 1, 2 or 3. All others are successful on a 1.

Wyrran is intigued. With a raised eyebrow he carefully paces about trying to identify any triggers or telltale mechanism that may have to do with the secret passage witnessed, but he is stumped.
Today: Wyrran Galaeth rolled 5 using 1d6.  Search for secret door.

Veskard, Glanuil and Smiles also begin looking for the secret door. Due to his height, Veskard searches high on the wall while Glanduil and Smiles check lower areas. "Ha! Got it," Smiles exclaims as she identifies the trigger and pushes a particular brick into the wall.

A section of wall in front of Argon moves toward him then slides to the left, revealing a short, dark hallway perhaps 30 feet long, with an alcove on the southern side of the hall immediately after the door. In the alcove is a sturdy wooden chest. There are also signs of light traffic. You see several sets of humanoid footprints on the floor of the hallway, with the most obvious tracks around the chest.

Argon steps into the corridor and moves past the chest to check where the tracks have come from or lead to. If there is a door he takes a knee and listens for any sounds on the other side.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Argon does not find a door, but the humanoids who passed this way have not been careful enough about hiding exactly where their tracks lead. In fact, he even finds a footprint that is cut in half by the north wall at the eastern end of the passage. He takes a knee and listens for any sounds on the other side, and while he does not have the skills of a thief, he hardly needs them. He can hear excited voices conversing on the other side, but can't make out what they are saying or what language they are speaking in.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

As several of you search the wall the voices in the next room suddenly cease. You exchange quizzical glances and keep looking. Glanduil finds the trigger and a section of the wall slides aside.

The room beyond is dark, and in the illumination shed by your light sources, you can see the shapes of overturned furniture. A spear flies out of the darkness and embeds itself in the wall near Argon's head.

Nice line, Argon. Everyone else has until Monday.

Be advised, the enemy has a +2 bonus to AC due to cover.

You are unsure of the number of enemies and what sort of humanoid they are, but I'll post a few hp totals so if you get a hit you know how well you've succeeded and can narrate.

Wyrran will wait for meatier allies to take the lead, not wanting to present himself as an easy melee target inside the room. Afterwards, he will throw both of his daggers at the enemies, one at a time, to support the front line, before trying his up close skill.

Today: Wyrran Galaeth rolled 6,1 using 1d20+1,1d4. Attack-thrown dagger and damage.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Argon rushes in and dodges around an overturned desk. In the dim light he can see his opponent is a goblin. The creature is small even for a goblin, and squeaks as the fighter looms over it. But Argon's sword strike misses as the goblin scrambles backward.

Wyrran's dagger misses the goblin he was targeting by a wide margin and sticks into the wood of a table.

Glanduil throws a dagger as well, and misses narrowly. His dagger is also stuck in a piece of furniture.

Phelan fires her short bow and catches a goblin as he pops up from behind a table to throw a spear. Her arrow goes through his head and he falls away.

The remaining goblins (other than the one cowering before Argon) throw spears at the party. A spear flying from the very back of the room misses Argon by a couple of feet, and others miss Glanduil, Smiles and Wyrran. Spears strike Phelan and Veskard.

Re: Chapter 1: The Road to Morgansfort

Argon, Veskard and Wyrran fell three goblins. Argon, pushes the body of a goblin off his sword with his boot heel. Veskard beheads a particularly large goblin and the creature's head bounces away into the dark. Wyrran's dagger spins through the air and finishes in a goblin's heart.

A goblin streaks toward Argon with a shriek, but the warrior turns the creature's rusty sword aside with his shield. Veskard's breastplate stops a stabbing thrust from a goblin spear. More spears sail out of the darkness from the back of the room. One bounces off the wall behind Wyrran, the other cuts deep into Phelan's shoulder.
