Mission 1: Clues (OOC)
Yumiko's Case Notes:
OOC: assume anything you see here has been shared in some sort of debriefing session and copies of Yumiko's Case Notes have been distributed to the relevant people. Case notes with sensitive information will naturally pass through Hoshi's hands first, and she can authorize their distribution--or tell Yumiko to burn them--as necessary.
Assassination of Kitsu Daimyo
Testimony of Kitsune Sorano:
Based upon our interviews of the Lion survivors and the Unicorn detachment, we have reached preliminary findings. For reasons yet unknown, members of the Lion’s Pride turned on their brethren and their charge. Acting in concert with the ‘bandits’, they claimed Kitsu-dono’s life and that of the majority of his family. Some component of this force then fled via magical means, which required the involvement of a shugenja of no small skill. Additionally, testimony suggests that the supposed ‘bandits’ fought using the techniques of the Lion Clan.
I found it prudent to place the surviving witnesses under the Emperor’s protection, and deputize the Unicorn forces to ensure their safe delivery to the castle, in the event further testimony is required.
Additional notations to Kitsune Sorano’s report:
Kitsu Akio reports that the deceased Kitsu daimyo was eager to meet with Yuki, currently in the care of the Otomo.
The attack took place on Imperial Lands and may imply careless mismanagement on the part of the Imperial Families if the true culprits are not apprehended.
The Unicorn idendentified the spell used to facilitate the escape of the bandits as Walking the Way.
Some of the bandits fled into the mountains and some of the corpses were removed by the escaping bandits.
Ikoma Satoriko has indicated that she will provide written testimony of her observations.
Testimony of Otomo Koharu regarding the identification of the bandit fighting style:
"We fought four of the Clans of Rokugan extensively: The Crab twice, the Scorpion twice, and a combined force of the Lion and Phoenix once. In all but one case, we were victorious; and even in that one case, we achieved our goals. We did so, in part, because our scouts are expert observers. I was at every one of our battles, and made extensive reports to my leaders."
With the exception of those that wore Lion colors, I cannot say that they were Lion -- but I can say with absolute certainty that they were Lion trained."
Testimony of Bayushi Yoshiyuki regarding the prevention of troop movements in the area of the attack
Testimony of Soshi Akiko regarding the prevention of troop movements in the area of the attack
