For our Kin, for Gaia!

”You know, I’ve been a police for 21 years and a detective for 18, right”, James said, not really asking a question. ”I’ve found out, every time I think ’no-one can  really be that stupid’, they go ’hold my beer’. The problem is, it works the other way around. When I ponder if anyone could be that smart, it turns out, someone was. I will do what I can and what I must. The problem is, you might need to leave a false trail at some point to distract them from the investigation.”

”I know”, James said with a nod and took a sip of his coffee. ”I’ll try to contain this thing. Do you have a burner phone? If not, get one and get me the number in the mail. I’ll call you, if things begin to go sideways, so you have time to react.”

”Get a new one and don’t activate it anywhere near your own phone. That way it can’t be connected to you. Check it once a day, every morning”, James said. He scribbled something on to a small piece of paper. ”Here’s my number, a burner phone. If you need something, send an SMS, but don’t write anything that could be connected to either of us.”

”Never had the need for it yet”, James replied. He knew, the Gatou weren’t too fond of people with silver ammunition going around, kin or not.

”Better if we’re not seen together”, James replied, ”but we’ll keep in touch. I’ll set up an e-mail account too, where we can communicate through writing drafts there. Modern age marvels. I suppose I need to get some silver, then. Anyone nearby selling?”

pauses and goes to his gunsafe and comes back with one revolver sized bullet made of silver "Sorry its just one hope it will fit... Couldnt afford to part with more, but at least it gives you a chance against dangers, and theirs several jewelry shops selling Silver... have a friend at the sept out of town who manufactures them, for a cost but once the dangers passed you should put them away"

In reply to The Capricious World (msg # 43):

Birk is having a good day.  He is trying out a new form of honey that mixes herbal remedies and excstasy which is really a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down.  For Glasswalker kin, he is very much a creature of the wilderness but he explains it to most of his immediate family as being "Extreme Exurbs."  Though he has always been fascinated by the mystic gifts the Garou actually have, he has kept his own efforts to the practical and tangible; he isn't a lupine and he never will be.  Except for the occasional dabbling with the Tarot, he does far more with his efforts on the dark web than he ever will with a Klaive and a hand grenade.

Still, he needs to batch another brand of dynamite this afternoon.  They go through it so fast.  What do they all blow up?

The work is careful and meticulous and he has worked over time with each batch to make it more and stable so that it is not a risk where he keeps it or makes it.  The equipment is very specialized and would alarm DHS six ways to sunday if he got it all at once but as it is, he carefully makes it happen and has built it up slowly over time to be a clock work operation that the authorities are vaugely aware exists but is only used exclusively for the business of the Garou so they think it is simply some kind of radical environmentalist outfit getting the dynamite from stolen outfits.

21:52, Today: Birk Stockwell rolled 38 using 7d10 ((2,5,8,5,4,5,9)) 2 Successes.

Funny enough, think about the DHS and there is a knock on the door. A man in his late thirties or so can be seen, wearing a brown uniform and a star-shaped badge on his chest. A broad tactical belt on his waist carries a number of pockets and a holster with a pistol in it. Whoever he is, he is clearly part of the Sheriff’s Office, which is likely to spell trouble, if he sees something illegal - like gear for someone making dynamite.

In reply to James Royce (msg # 48):

Fortunately, though seemingly of middle income, Birk was insanely rich.  As such, the dynamite was always constructed in a location under the ground and well away from wherever he answered the front door.  Checking the cameras, he notice it was someone from the Sheriff's office, so carefully setting down one of the last pack, he replied by the intercomm, "Yes, how can I help you sheriff?"

He finished the final elements of the last batch and began to wash his hands.  Explosive residue was relatively easy to detect and smart people who didn't get caught always removed it afterwards.

”Mister Birk Stockwell? I need to have a word with you”, the law officer replied, glancing at the camera. He looked reasonably handsome, though a bit rugged perhaps. His hand hovered on the edge of his belt, not really going for the gun, but in a manner that suggested, he was an experienced officer and wary of things he might encounter.

Birk finished washing.  He wasnt a ritualist in the clan, but the importance of it had been sent home at a young age. He washed his hands and then went up to the door.  He opened it and invited the officer inside.  Birk wasnt nerveous, not because he was a hardened criminal, rather, he had long ago resolved himself to the ultimate sacrifice for Gaia.  He fought in his own way, and death was as much a part of life. Gaia was balance between the Wyld, the Weaver and even the Wyrm.

He smiled warmly on appearance, looking more like a refugee from a Ben and Jerrys convention than a master criminal.  Part hippie, part Wall Street Sell out, he smiled and extended his very clean hand to the Law Enforcement Officer. "How can I help you officer?"

”Like I said, a word”, the man replied. ”And preferrably not in the street.” He peered past Birk in to the house, as if checking out the place from the door. Whatever the reason for this visit was, he was clearly not going to content himself with talking outside the house.

"Of course." Birk welcomed him in.  There was a bong visible in the corner, but it had no visible marijuana in it and it was an otherwise comfortable room filled with various wood carvings, a leather chair and a lot of books. "How can I help you?"  He shuts the door assuming James enters.

After the door closed, the officer spoke. ”I’m James Royce. My name won’t say much to you, but I’m the replacement for Richard Samuel, the kinfolk police officer. I just thought I’d drop by to announce myself. And on that subject, I hope you keep the stuff like that bong a bit better hidden - while it’s not against Gaia’s laws, it’s a risk leaving it out in the open. Had it been someone else from the PD, they might have come back witha warrant to search the premises. I trust it, you keep any really discriminating evidence hidden better?”

"Pleased to meet you James.  I do keep it well hidden, yes.  I always argue about that.  Its the same reason I keep a Google Home in the sound proofed library. I feel it reduces my impact by making me not seem TOO clean.  I mean, my entire public image is "hippie" and I would assume most officers assume I smoke 420, especially these days.  I never use that bong and actually never have.  I just keep it there to make my 'sin' a known quantity but if you think it better to move it I will definitely default to your judgement. "Well, I have a lot of crytocurrency and dark web access.  I mainly supply the local caern with intelligence and some other useful items." He would tell him about the dynamite but needed to confirm him with the Caern first. After all, hunters could always learn some lore.  "I am not very good at combat but I am good at chemistry. So if information or the occasional item can be found, I am your man.  I can check to see what the most recent information I have is if you like."

That way I can very your ID without making you go away :) GM, would you like me to make up some plot hooks?

After making a quick phone call, he says,"There are one of two potential leads but they are gathering details. I also provide dynamite to the ranked Garou as they ask for it.  And yes, I hide that carefully."
