Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

I watched Luca last night. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the credits where they show what happens next with all the characters…

Agreed!

The postscript was a great idea!

And yes, wonderful achievement to complete the whole story you set out to tell!  I've not seen it on RPOL before.  And a great story to boot.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

3.5 years and 4600+ posts later, we have completed a fantastic and vivid Deadlands story.

Thanks to the Marshal for a great job done, and to my fellow player characters for creating vivid and memorable characters.

Albert Cooper:
You are all awesome players and made this game incredibly enjoyable.

This definitely bears repeating. Not one bit of this story would have unfolded without the presence of each of your characters. Every one of you did an exceptional job of bringing your chosen persona to life. I have no doubt that I will be remembering some of the events of this game for years to come.

Again, my thanks to each of you for taking part.

Yes, I would be. Unlikely I’d be able to do any character creation until near end of July.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

Albert Cooper:
Yes, I would be. Unlikely I’d be able to do any character creation until near end of July.

Full disclosure: Part of my motivation for asking was due to the fact that constructing the game will take some time. Besides including details regarding the world itself, being a fantasy setting, there are racial options and edges that are unique to 50 Fathoms that I need to be certain to inform participants about up front, so they can incorporate them into their choices during character creation. Also, although spellcasting itself works as it does in most Savage Worlds games, there are specific streams of power that arcane characters tap into which impact the powers that they are able to access. All that to say that typing up that information will require some work on my part, work that selfishly, I didn’t want to put in if there wasn’t any interest.

That said, with regard to your situation Albert, I honestly doubt that I’ll have the game properly constructed before the end of the month. I’ll probably be ready to open the doors around the time you’re free to devote some thought to character creation.

My sincere thanks to everyone who expressed interest. I’ll drop each of you a quick rMail once I have the game prepared.

So...  not sure if this is the best place to do it.  And I know its early and all...  But if anyone else wanted to spitball 50 Fathoms character ideas.  I'm in...  I'd love to work out some possible preexisting connections or such...  If wouldn't mess anything up.

Character creation is an addictive joy for me.

Life...has been shitty lately. BUT...I'm still going to enjoy the 50 Fathoms game, quite a bit. Has there been any discussion about characters? If so, lemme know where. If not...let's start?

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

Agreed!  Let's start!

Let's see...  I always have too many ideas and then pare it down based on what seems to fit with the group of what seems interesting to said group.

Quick idea list!

Murgk - Grael Harpooner and Wrestler - Murgk won his village's contest for the honor of signing on to the next ship seeking a Grael hunter.  He believes himself to be the best of the best and deserving of respect and riches.  Of course, he has little concept of the value of things and is easily manipulated.  Proud, strong, and dim.

Geordie Pringle - Scots Border Reiver - Geordie was a border reiver; a light horseman and outlaw along the English Scottish border of around 1590.  His clan sent a regiment of horse for mercenary work on the continent.  Ship was lost in the crossing....and ended up in Caribdus.  Geordie believes that he is trapped in Faerie and all the strange folk of Carbidus are the Faerie creatures from the stories.  He is unshakable in this belief.  Brutal, loyal, and a bit mad.

Theodosia Burr - American Lady/Pirate Captain - In history, Theodosia Burr's ship disappeared in a storm off the coast of North Carolina.  What if, she and that ship ended up in Caribdus?  Highly educated, driven, and now in a world where women were not necessarily kept from the reins of power.  She is her father's daughter and will survive. And thrive.

Redcap - Kehana Vagabond - Redcap earned his name due to the red coloration of his scales, especially pronounced across the crown of his head.  A lost Scotsman's joke.  Redcap carries a dark secret that made him flee the other Kehana and the flumes.  He cares...  He empathizes...  He fears he may even...love...  He fears the other Kehana will kill him if they know.  He wants to find a way to be free of this curse...

I have others...  Just the first few...  Anyhow.  Enjoy!

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

Question for everyone: Do those planning to take part in the upcoming 50 Fathoms game have access to the Player’s Guide?

If most (or all) of you do, it would cut down on the preparation work that I have to do significantly. To explain, my intent was to post a lot of the essential information about the world of Caribdus, its locations, and character creation options that are unique to the setting in the game itself (similar to what I did with Waterdeep) for participants to refer to. But if most have access to the Player’s Guide, such an effort would be redundant.

If most aren’t able to snag a copy, I have no problem with pressing ahead with getting the essentials of the setting posted. For those that do, since we’ll be utilizing the SWADE ruleset, make sure to download the 50 Fathoms SWADE Conversion Guide which is available for free at the Pinnacle Entertainment website.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

If any of those ideas seem like something to spin off from, let me know!

The grael needs a captain to point him in the right directions and keep him from getting taken in by the wrong sorts.

Theodosia needs a loyal crew to help with her nationbuilding.

Geordie and Redcap are both vicious bastards in their own way, so if you need a vicious bastard or want to play the opposite number to check them...

Or something else!

I had extra time today...

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

I believe that the sale at DriveThruRPG  extends through today, so anyone wanting to grab a copy can do so inexpensively.

The honest truth is that the Player’s Guide will do a far better job than I could in communicating all of the essential aspects of the setting. That said, since most that have expressed an interest in taking part have obtained a copy, I’m planning on refraining from posting a lot of material about the setting elements in-game. Of course, if someone that’s joining in doesn’t have access to the Guide, I can work with them individually on matters like character creation/history.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

My thanks to everyone who purchased or located their copy of the Player’s Guide. I’ve spent part of the weekend rereading portions of 50 Fathoms and in doing so, I’ve been reminded that the player information provided for the setting includes a number of valuable hints about some of the central mysteries of Caribdus. Points that I might not have been careful enough to include, had I attempted to post it all within the game itself.

I’m mindful of the fact that the Player’s Guide represents an investment of money and reading time. I’ll do my utmost to create a game that makes it worthwhile. I expect to have everything prepared within the next week to two weeks, and I’ll make certain to send a rMail to each of you to let you know when it’s open for business.

Re: The Thornton-Curry Saloon (OOC Thread)

Just for everyone’s information: I’m probably going to proceed with deleting this game in a week’s time, but I wanted to be sure to give each of you notice in case there was some material from the game anyone wanted to save prior to me doing so.

Thanks again to everyone who took part. A lot of great memories.
