General Rules

General Guidelines
1. Be respectful to others. There will be times when you may disagree with another player or the GM(s). Keep disagreements out of OOC chats and game threads. Keep disagreements in private messages. The GM(s) will chime in if it goes too far.

2. No Power or God Modding. Godmodding is taking control of another player's character during roleplay. It's frowned upon and with good reason: you only control your character and no one else's.  Exceptions are allowed only with prior permission from all the affected players.

3. Use Common Sense. There will be consequences to your character's actions. Most consequences will not end in the death of a character; however, players should be wary of going into battle unprepared, jumping into fire, etc. Use common sense, and you should be fine. :)

Style, OOC, etc.

Pick a color for your character to use, this will be first come first serve. Orange and Red are off the table as those are reserved for OOC and NPCs respectively. Talking will need to be in quotes, thinking/telepathic in italics, and writing in monotype.

Posting Guidelines
1. Before making a post, be sure to proofread and spell-check.
2. All posts should be well-thought-out and well-written.
3. All posts should be at least five sentences (one paragraph) in length.
4. The longer your post, the more your writing partner will have to work with.
5. One-liners will not be accepted. Ever.
6. DO NOT USE OUT-OF-CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE IN-CHARACTER.
7. Thread Hopping. When you leave one thread to travel to another, you will be expected to add that to your post. For example: [To: Town Hall], if you are going to Town Hall. Or, [From: Town Hall], if you are entering a new thread after leaving Town Hall.

Activity Guidelines
I would like to see people post at least once a week minimum.

Characters will be made NPCs if I hear nothing from the player for a full month and deleted if nothing after 2 months.

If people need to take breaks from the game, feel free.  Send me a private message if you want me to keep or delete your characters as needed.  Real life is always more important than any game

General Rules

Combat
In this game, combat will likely happen at points.  When combat is imminent, the GM will create a combat thread and set the scene to include maps, environmental factors, and any other information the characters will know.  Upon creation of the combat thread, all characters involved will roll initiative.  The GM will post the order of combatants so everyone will know what order to act.

GM posts will include a board map showing the layout of the room and any visible enemies to help with action planning.

Due to the way play by post games operate, we will try to keep things flowing as smoothly as possible.  If 24 hours pass when it is a player's turn to post in combat, the GM will elect to either skip that character or post actions as what makes the most sense at the time.

Once combat ends, the GM will amalgate the story sections into a narrative to post to the original scene and then archive the combat thread so that roleplay can continue.

Combat Posting
When making your combat posts, please write out your actions in story form first followed by the mechanics and rolls in your post.

Example:
Roarke grunts palpably as he feels the effects of his life draining away.  Anger flashes on his face as he takes his warhammer in a two-handed grip and swings away at the abomination smiling at them.

"Damned... half-dead... gwah!"  He swings his warhammer, taking advantage of the excellent positioning of his allies to strike a single solid blow.

General Rules

FAQ:  We will place answers to frequently asked questions here for everyone's knowledge.

FAQ 1: Can I explore beyond the wall/fly high enough to see over the wall/etc?
Answer: The answer to this is currently no.  For both scope and plot reasons, this simply is not allowed at this time.  There may/will come a point in the development of the game where this answer will change.

FAQ 2: What about forests/mountains/etc?  Some classes skills are tied directly to the environment.
Answer: The scope of the mega-urban setting also includes places inside the borders where forests, rivers, lakes, and other environments are a factor, but the majority of the land will be urban.  Please consider this when designing characters.

FAQ 3: Do I have to be evil?
Answer: You do not have to be evil to be part of the guild or hired by the guild.

FAQ 4: What is the living situation like for characters?
Answer: Guild Members receive accomodations as part of their dues for an average lifestyle.

FAQ 5: What languages are in the game?
Common (default), Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Gnomish, Goblin, Halfling, Orc, Abyssal, Celestial, Draconic, Deep Speech, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, Undercommon
