Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Thanacheir Ashuancourux's role in the vast multiverse was one that many have feared and greatly misunderstood - maybe it was due to the fact that she was granted the title "Destroyer" ever since her powers have manifested themselves. Despite the great fear and respect populations of various worlds have given to her, her role in the greater aspect of various worlds could be described as nothing short of... mundane.

Clean up of such an immense scale could never be fathomed by anyone but the greater entities of the multiverse, and it doesn't help that she's the only one appointed to the job. Would it behoove the greater ones if they have assigned others to help her? Maybe. Whether they were considering another individual/s to help her out remained to be seen.

Recently there had been a greater number of destroyed worlds than before. Thanacheir usually could finish her job in a span of seven clicks (equivalent to one Earth day) soon took eight, nine, and even more clicks to complete. These worlds did not fall into ruins by themselves, but by some outside source.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

It did not take much for Thanacheir to notice something was off about the latest trends. It wasn't that the tasks she had been given were particularly hard -- have her soul inhabit one of the local vessels, and then bring the world to ruin to replenish the Afterlife -- especially when the tools she had been given came as naturally to her as breathing, there was a certain... resistance she had been facing of late. It was almost as if there was something attempting to impede her efforts. Was it Creation? No, even though he was her counterpart, he too preferred a hands-on approach, and outside meddling through proxies did not fit his MO.

She sighed, and knelt for a moment in prayer, sending the report with her findings and progress thus far back to Vi, her Deity and the one that had blessed her with such abilities as only she could wield. It amused her that in the Afterlife, her task was that of Creation, given that death here meant new life there, but such was the finer details of how she and Creation were considered two parts of a whole, even though the two of them rarely met while on duty. It did happen on occasion, though the results were often cataclysmic, such as when she broke a dam or two and some people came out of it miraculously untouched, which gave others stupid ideas on how best to survive a similar event. Fun times.

These latest couple of times however, it screamed foul play to her. Someone was trying to mess with the system, and it would be up to her to fix it, by doing what she did best: Un-fixing the ones responsible.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Sifting through the mess of a collapsed world, Thanacheir would notice a striking pattern with the fabric of reality that remained from these ruins. Worlds that collapsed naturally would have the fabric fray apart. These worlds looked like their fabric of reality were torn apart.

"Kekeh... This one is no good either, eh?" a grainy voice cackled behind a pile of remains, followed by sounds of sifting about, "I guess this is why they warned me I'm being too forceful in distorting the place..."

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Thanacheir frowned at the voice, sending the words she had overheard back to Vi as an afterthought to the prayer, and rose from her knelt position again to investigate. The vessel she was currently inhabiting wore a tan dress, now mostly red from the blood she had lost when nearby remains had collapsed on top of her. Apparently she had still been clinging to the flicker of life she had left or she wouldn't have been able to inhabit it, and her presence had instantly healed all wounds while the woman's soul was whisked away to Vi in return. For one as close to death as she was, the process was quite fitting.

She decided against summoning her weapon and armor to her for the moment, preferring the guise of the local for now. She had access to the woman's memories and knowledge, and she needed a moment to sift through to determine what was considered 'normal' in this particular world, so the form of her armor and weaponry would not look out of place. Clothing was far less restrictive regardless of the level of technology.

Softly, she sneaked closer to the pile of remains, attempting to glance past it without actually touching the pile due to the effect her powers would have on it.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Taking a peek past a pile of ruins, Thanacheir could spot a humanoid squid/cyborg/devil (cyber devil squid?) being sifting through a pile of rubble. It looked like it was looking for something amidst the mess in the area.

"Geh, so he managed to break it even before we could get our hands on it..." the unusual creature picked up something small yet shiny amidst the rubble, which promptly cracked and shattered into dust a few moments later, "Oooh! That traitor's going to pay big time when I get my hands... I mean tentacles on him!"

Without anything else to look for, the unusual entity started to make its way elsewhere. It was unaware of Thanacheir's presence and visibly preoccupied with another matter of urgency.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Frowning, Thanacheir tried to get closer to the creature. She wasn't really concerned about the risk of being found out, but it was clear that whatever the way the one whose body she inhabited had near-died, this person was the one responsible. And she needed to get a better look at him to be able to learn more.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

The unusual life form has went ahead as Thanacheir attempted to follow. With her not attempting to be quiet at this point, the being stopped after a few steps forward to turn around and look at the woman following it. The avatar of destruction could fully see the humanoid feature this being possessed, crossed with a squid head, cybernetic visor, and a pair of large tentacles for arms and other tentacles on its back. Its legs had tentacled features as well.

"Oh? There's a survivor?" the cyborg man-squid remarked as it pointed a tentacle at Thanacheir, "Maybe I can still make something out of this world after all!"

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Thanacheir tilted her head when she looked at the creature. With her still limited knowledge of where she was she had not yet reached the point where she would be able to tell if the squid's appearance would be something that was considered 'normal' here, and she was digging through the woman's memories once again to look for relevant information. In the meantime, she took the most sensible approach.

- "Who're you?"

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

When Thanacheir looked into her host's thoughts, the only thing that would describe the being before her was an abomination. It was clear he was feared, a completely alien entity that should not even exist in the world.

"Haa...? Did the fear made you stupid?" the squid being asked as he made a threatening pose, "I am one of the generals of Grand Shocker, Space IkaDevil! And we are going to rule all the worlds!"

"And maybe I can make use of you in advancing our ambition!" Space IkaDevil then said as he stepped closer to Thanacheir with tentacles extending out from his back.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Thanacheir thought, accessing the memories of the girl, but came up with nothing.

- "I'm... sorry, i've never heard of either of those. So from my point of view -- pardon the expression -- you're the deluded one."

She knew that the single most surefire way to get someone that wanted to be feared annoyed was a screen of indifference. While fear would have been a normal reaction for an inhabitant of this world, she had seen -- and fought -- a fair number of races that were all diverse in some way or another. And while she did not recognize IkaDevil's form among them, or at least enough to pinpoint where this creature's homeworld was, there was a first time for everything.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

"Such a sharp mouth! I'll just have to educate you then!" IkaDevil exclaimed as his tentacles reached out for the woman before him, intending to squeeze and pull her up into the air, "A few broken bones wouldn't matter once we end up modifying you to become one of our followers!"

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Thanacheir stepped back from the tentacles, a look of revulsion on her face as they approached her, but not fast enough to actually evade them. Rather, her positioning showed she was more intending to push them away from her. Once they would touch her, she knew the tentacles would likely begin dissolving, literally being unmade as the power she had been blessed with by Vi would start taking effect. Thus, when she reached out to the tentacles a second after they began to coil around her, she wasn't pushing them away, but rather keep them from being pulled away by IkaDevil. There would be time for questions later, she supposed, as people having witnessed her powers firsthand tended to be more... generous with information.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

There was a look of surprise on the monster's face after the tentacles wrapped around Thanacheir, only to start dissolving into nothingness when he made contact. There was even more surprise with the woman's unusual strength - keeping Space IkaDevil from undoing the tentacles.

"Y-you...!? What the hell are you doing to my tentacles!?" Space IkaDevil exclaimed with clear pain of feeling his extensions being undone. He attempted to pull as hard as possible in attempt to send the woman off her feet and slam her against the ground or a nearby wall - anything to untangle his tentacles from someone apparently dangerous to touch.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Thanacheir was pleased to see that whatever powers this creature had been granted, a similar protection to hers had not been among them. That meant that whomever was ultimately responsible for this was still subservient to Vi, and thus it was someone or something she could reap. When IkaDevil predicatively began trying to pull himself free, she, rather than resist it, jumped forward to close the distance, attempting to both unbalance IkaDevil when something he expected to give an opposing force did not, as well as close the distance between them in general in order to wrap her arms around him.

If successful, she would wrap her arms around him, pinning him against her as her powers would eat away at his main body, ideally pinning his arms at his sides as well.

- "Ohh, don't leave now, you were about to tell me ALL about this Grand Shocker fellow!"

The look on her face, now closer to his, made it clear she had no intention of letting go until she had received the information she wanted to know.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

"Graaaaah!!! Don't get too cocky!!!" Space IkaDevil cried out as he found the woman not against the ground, but instead around him. Her very touch was unraveling his body in an excruciating manner that got on his nerves. As a response, black inky clouds start to come out from his body. Its touch not only slippery, but also searing to the skin.

"As if a general of the great Grand Shocker would simply let a lowly being like you get away with this!" the squid entity exclaimed angrily as Thanacheir felt it somehow slip through her grip, "Once we collect the World Crystals from various worlds, you'd wish that you would have died before we find you!"

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

World Crystals? Interesting...

The brief exchange did tell Thanacheir a great deal. First, this was a military-style organization. Second, they were active on multiple worlds, making them the likely cause of most, if not all, of the reported disturbances. And third, they were after the World Crystals, which meant they had a means of not only finding, but also affecting them. Equally enlightening was that they didn't know about her, and therefore were unaffiliated with Vi. She wondered which world they had originated on, but that was of later concern. First, there would be battle.

The slippery blackness caused IkaDevil to wring itself from her grasp, but even as her regenerative abilities were kicking in to fight the pain caused by its acidic effect, her mind was already working to use the darkness to her advantage. Calling her weapon and armor to her, for there was no longer a reason for secrecy, she jumped through the cloud to where she believed IkaDevil likely was. She was assuming that since she could not see through the cloud, then IkaDevil's vision would be similarly affected, which in turn meant he would not be expecting a fully armed and armored figure to come charging out at him.

Thanks to IkaDevil's unintentional revelation, she would have plenty of information to send back to her God, but it would be even better if she could send IkaDevil's soul itself to merge with the infinite collective consciousness under Vi's management and care, where its memories would be accessible to him directly. Jumping out of the cloud, her weapon was already moving in a wide, horizontal swing, intending to cover a wide area to maximize the chance to find IkaDevil within its deadly arc.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

"Oya? Where were you even aiming at?" the squid entity goaded in an annoyingly grating voice as Thanacheir's weapon swung out and caught nothing but air despite IkaDevil's voice clearly coming from the front. Stepping through the acidic ink would explain why - portals. Space IkaDevil's upper body was peeking out of a portal that was floating on the emissary of destruction's eye level before he went in through the disappearing portal. The Grand Shocker general then reappeared from another portal further away showing signs of the damage Thanacheir has inflicted upon him.

"Don't think you can always outsmart me, peasant!" Space IkaDevil declared as he started retreating back into the portal, "I'll let you go this time around, but your time will be up the next time we meet!"

With that, Space IkaDevil let loose orbs of energy towards Thanacheir's position. They were not aimed at her directly, but were meant to limit her mobility and vision amidst the ensuring explosions as the Grand Shocker general made his retreat.

Prologue 04: Ruins and Remains

Thanacheir grunted as she noticed IkaDevil had the ability to create portals. That would be problematic if she was meant to kill him. Regardless, when the orbs appeared, she quickly noticed they were not aimed at her directly, and so she, rather than mount a defense against the blast zones, jumped in order to launch herself straight at the retreating form of IkaDevil.

This had two advantages. First, she wouldn't be near the orbs when they would detonate around her, and second, there was a chance she might be able to slip through the same portal IkaDevil used to retreat, which meant she might catch a glimpse of where this Grand Shocker was based from.

The threat of dying did not have much meaning to her: If she did, her soul would return to Vi and she would be reborn in a new body of one on the verge of death, like she had so many times before. And so, she kept her eyes open, doing her best to memorize what she saw on the other end of the portal as she did trying to impale IkaDevil with her weapon, going so far as to throw it at him javelin style in mid-jump if need be.
