House Rules

I Died! Now What?
While death is often a minor inconvenience to most adventurers, Goblins have it harder since they don't often have an abundance of precious diamonds on hand to cast Resurrection spells with.  In the off-chance you end up shuffling off the Mortal Coil without some means of revivifying available to you, fear not!  As any adventurer can assure you; there's always more Goblins!  Just roll a new character and jump right back into the fray.  Your new character will be of the same level as your last, but you have the option of rolling a new class and equipment loadout if you so choose.  Or, hey, maybe come back as a Revenant.  Weirder things have happened!

To that end, I - as the DM - have no interest in actively trying to kill the party.  While I won't shield you from your own bad decisions or unlucky rolls, I'm far more interested in making sure everyone has fun and tells a good story over racking up a body count.  If you end up dying, please don't take it personally.

Improved Critical Hits
Nothing sucks more than rolling minimal damage after a Nat 20.  As such, Critical Hits are altered to have more of a reliable impact.  Under normal rules, you double your Damage Dice rolled for critical damage.  Under this house rule, you instead will maximize one of your damage dice automatically and only roll one for variable damage before applying modifiers.  This applies to Weapon and Spell attacks that can Crit.

For example, if you Crit with a Dagger (1d4) you would normally roll 2d4, then add any modifiers.  Instead you will roll 1d4 + 4, then add modifiers.  If you Crit with a Crossbow (1d8) you would normally roll 2d8.  Instead you will roll 1d8 + 8, and so forth.

Food, Glorious Food
The "Rations" item have been given additional functions to increase their utility and to ease ability fatigue.

Energy Boost:
If you have spell slots that only recharge on a Long Rest, you may regain one spent spell slot on a Short Rest if you also eat Rations during that time.  You may regain up to a single 2nd level spell slot by eating twice as many Rations per spell level (2 Rations for a 1st Level slot, 4 Rations for a 2nd).  You cannot use this feature if you spend the Short Rest attuning to a magical item or performing any other action other than eating.  You may only use this once per Long Rest.

OR

If you are using a Short Rest to heal, you may maximize one of your HD rolled if you also eat a Ration during that time.  (IE, if you roll 2d8 HD to heal, you will instead roll 1d8 + 8).  You cannot use this feature if you spend the Short Rest attuning to a magical item or performing any other action other than eating.  You may only use this once per Long Rest.

Bribery:
The best way into a creature's good graces is often through its stomach.  If you are attempting to coerce or distract a creature that thinks with its gut more than its brain (beasts, unintelligent Monsters, underpaid mooks, etc), you may use a Ration to gain Advantage on the skill check roll.
