Opening: Approaching the planet Teth
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

STAR WARS

THE LOST JEDI

It is a dark time for the galaxy at large. Through insidious plots, the former Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, Sheev Palpatine, has named himself the first EMPEROR of the newly formed GALACTIC EMPIRE. The first of the treacherous Emperor’s designs was to dismantle the JEDI ORDER, an order of warrior-monks whose great powers and long-standing devotion to keeping peace in the old Republic posed a very real threat to Palpatine’s rule.

Countless Jedi have been slaughtered, hunted down and executed by the very same clone soldiers they commanded while fighting for the former Republic. The Jedi Council has been dissolved, and the temple has been converted into an Imperial Palace. Any Jedi who still survive have become desperate fugitives, as the public has turned against them and they are still being hunted tirelessly by agents of the Empire.

One young Jedi apprentice, just barely lucky enough to escape capture, finds himself the latest addition to a motley crew of smugglers operating in the outer rim of the galaxy....

With a flash of blue light and a roar of starship engines, the Crest Hopper emerges from hyperspace. It’s a humble-looking ship, small and conservatively designed, but also a sturdy one if all the blast scars and hull damage are any indication. It looks barely big enough to hold more than a handful of crew, and with its single mounted laser turret it hardly looks formidable, but it’s clear to see that this ship has been through it’s share of adventures already and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down yet.

As the ship soars through the void of space we close in on its cockpit, where we see two women at the controls, one young and pretty with a head of flowing red hair and the other a brunette who is clearly a little older, with silvered hairs starting to show, but an appearance that remains striking all the same. The two women smile and laugh together at an apparent private joke before the elder of the two stands up out of the main pilot’s chair and gestures for the younger to take her place. The redhead hesitates only for a moment before jumping up from the co-pilot’s station and taking the offered seat. She looks excited but also a little scared at the development, but before she can say anything the brunette leans over and gives her an affectionate kiss on the forehead, then turns on her heel and grabs hold of an intercom device that is fixed to one of the cockpit walls.

“Alright, passengers, crew, and layabouts all,” Her distinct Corellian accent comes crackling through speakers throughout the ship. “Captain Mareen here - we’re on an approach vector for Teth and should break atmosphere within the hour, so everyone make ready for landing. This is still Hutt Space, but with the new Empire ‘securing its borders’ there’s no telling how long it’ll stay that way. I don’t intend to stick around and find out, so anyone who ain’t planning or can’t pay to stay aboard for another jump - pack your shit.”

The announcement rouses you from whatever thoughts were preoccupying your young mind, and you find yourself sitting upon a squishy loveseat in the crew lounge. Also occupying the lounge are several passengers who were playing pazaak on one of the tables but are now getting up to pack, and the ship’s one other non-pilot crew member besides yourself, “Big T”.

Big T is a Talz mercenary who Mareen pays to guard the ship while her and her daughter fly it and conduct business. He's currently sitting alone at one of the game tables, apparently playing dejarik against the computer and noisily slurping down some protein slop with his proboscis at the same time. His beloved weapon - a huge, intricately-decorated but otherwise simple battle axe - sits upon the table beside his meal. You’ve never seen him keep it out of reach of one his considerably large and hairy arms, so this is not strange.

On the whole, the interior of the Crest Hopper is surprisingly comfy, with lots of space for passengers to stretch out and multiple gaming stations, tables, chairs and couches to help with relaxation. Except for the occasional bit of white Talz dander, the space is kept immaculately clean with an almost military polish, but here and there you find the odd homey or feminine touch - some potted plants growing in a miniature hydroponic bay upon a counter top, a shelf housing a collection of data disks and pads for the reading and watching enjoyment of passengers, some strange alien art pieces adorning the otherwise dull durasteel wall panels, even a few scratches on the side of a door frame that apparently show how much a child who once lived aboard the ship (or still does) has grown over the years. All and all it’s the least “starship-like” starship you’ve ever flown in, and that fact seems even stranger when you consider that it’s primary function is the smuggling of illicit cargo, whether that be illegal goods or otherwise desperate fugitives not unlike yourself.

The door to the cockpit suddenly opens with a woosh, and out walks Mareen, all blue-eyed, black-haired, slender six feet of her. Even dressed like a relatively unremarkable spacer as she always is, she still looks like she’d be better suited to sipping Daruvvian champagne with Tapani nobles than flying a smuggler’s rig through the Outer Rim. Her age is only slightly starting to show in light smile lines on her otherwise perfect skin and few silver strands of hair that are mostly hidden in the silky black braid hanging over her shoulder. The heavy blaster pistol hanging low on her hip only serves to further the dissonance between her appearance and her profession.

“Hey, kid.” She calls over, clearly to you as there’s no one else on board she would address like that. “A word?” She indicates one of the unoccupied staterooms closest to the cockpit and then heads into it without waiting for you.

So much had changed in the year or so since Uzo had joined the fight against the Separatists. It seemed like the whole galaxy was a different place. It was a different place. The mere fact that his buzz cut was replaced by long hair was evidence of that. But it wasn't the only evidence. But that wasn't the only evidence. There was a great deal more. But the most important was-

He had been a Padawan once, a trainee of an Order that no longer existed. An Order that had been broken by the very Republic it had served.

Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force.

It was so difficult to remember now. He felt so ignorant - where was the knowledge? His passions threatened to overwhelm him and he couldn't find even a seed of serenity. Chaos, yes. Harmony? Where was the harmony in the chaos?

Uzo's stomach roiled at the thought. He had no control. He had no control over himself right now, let alone over the rest of the galaxy. He was afraid.

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. Master Yoda had repeated those words numerous times during his training. All younglings knew them by heart. And yet now he was afraid. Terrified. The Order had taught him so much, and yet now he realized how little worth it had actually been. Back then the Order had been beloved by literally trillions of people, heroes fighting for truth, justice, the light.

But Palpatine had wormed his way into power, manipulated everyone - even the Jedi - into thinking he was a good man. And then he had turned on them. He had given a speech to the Senate, accusing the Jedi of attempting to assassinate him. But Uzo knew that was a lie. If the Jedi had tried to assassinate a politician he would have been dead. But the Jedi would never murder anyone. It was against every belief the Order held dear.

Uzo bit his tongue, drawing him back to the present. His thoughts were a chaotic mess. He couldn't allow that. Mace Windu, Yoda... dead. As far as Uzo knew, he was the last Jedi. He was no Anakin Skywalker, and certainly no Master Yoda. But somehow he would have to uphold every ideal of the Jedi Order. Somehow he would have to-

Mareen entered the room and for the first time in who knew how long his thoughts crystalized. "Of course," he mumbled. The Padawan - you're not a Padawan anymore, Uzo - stood, grimacing as he did so. He'd been able to use the Force to heal himself, more or less, in the time he'd been aboard the Crest Hopper, but his knee still ached, and he kept his arm in a sling for more than show.

Big T looked up from his game, huffed something in his native language, and went back to it. He'd never mention it to anyone, let alone the Talz himself, but he sorta liked the way the alien smelled. He'd met a few of them during his time in the Order and they a bit like wet wookie. Not so Big T, who - for whatever reason - had a vaguely peachy scent. Uzo suspected Mareen or Also had something to do with that; Big T didn't seem like the type who wanted to smell like peaches.

OOC: Just noticed that Uzo's name has one too many 'z's. Does that mean he's putting you to sleep? Already?! ;)

Not my best first post ever, but it did take far too damned long to write.

Oh, also. It's not important - very important - to note that he still wears his Padawan braid, although it's wrapped up in his hair, in a pony tail. That's very important information. ;) I'll put it in later, but it didn't seem to have a place here in this post.

Opening: Approaching the planet Teth
The door closes behind you with a whoosh and you find yourself alone with the captain. She crosses her arms and stares you down, eyes as keen as any Jedi master you ever knew. “How’s the arm?” She asks, then before you can answer she’s reaching out and prodding your cast without a care for how it might discomfit you. “You should be doing handstands by now, all the bacta shots we’ve been sticking you with.”

Suddenly she reaches out with her other hand and pushes a hard object into your chest - you look down and see that it is a blaster pistol. You may or may not recognize it as a BlasTech DL-18. “Doesn’t matter - you only need one hand to use one of these, and I need another pair of eyes more than another gun anyway.”

“You’ve been freeloading on my ship for two weeks now, kid, and I’m thinking that it’s time to pay your dues, unless Teth is where you wanna disembark.” Her tone tells you that you probably don't want to do that.

“Here’s the deal - I need to meet a client planetside but I have a bad feeling, so I want backup. I’m not letting Also leave the ship because she don’t need to be exposed to all that drek, and I need to leave Big T behind to guard her and the ship because I don’t trust you to do either...  so that means you gotta come with me and watch my back.”

She stares you down hard again, blue eyes threatening to pierce your soul as she waits for your reaction, still pressing the blaster pistol into your chest hard enough that it almost hurts.

"Long as I don't get shot in the back, you get to stay on board for another jump. Savvy?"

OOC: Haha, notes noted and name fixed! I thought your post was great so no worries! At least the "run-on sentences" aren't as strong with you as they seem to be with me :P I'm going to make a more concerted effort to proof-read in future, after re-reading my first posts.

The difference between a Jedi master and Mareen Moekno was simple: there was a sort of warmth in the eyes of the former that said, No matter what you did, it will be okay. Mareen however, she didn't have that warmth. She was judging him. Or maybe he was imagining it.

Uzo took the weapon and hefted it. It was so clumsy compared to his lightsaber. Less dangerous, though. "I-" He stopped himself. "I mean, you saved my life, Ma- Ms. Moekno. The least I can do is watch your back." He wiggled the fingers of his left, injured hand. "I may need a holster, though. I mean, if it won't increase my bill too much." He grinned.

OOC: Pfft. All the great writers ignore grammar rules. ;)

Even the starship captain's icy glare melts a little at the sight of your boyish grin, and she ends up having to roll her eyes, shaking her head and sighing as she does so. Rather than engage you further, she reaches around you and hits the button for the door, starting to walk out. "This is why I can't leave you with Also..." You think you just barely hear her mutter as she passes, but then she immediately opens the door to the cockpit and strides within. "Alright, princess, that's enough play time on mama's throne - get up and go help ponytail out there find a holster for his blaster... and I don't mean in the biblical sense."

"Mom!" You hear Also gasp, before she starts grasping for excuses. "But-but I thought you were gonna let me practice landing the ship! What if I need to do it in an emergency at some point!" Her soft voice raises a few octaves, not unlike a child being denied its favourite treat.

"You can get your practice in on worlds that are less likely to blast us to space dust if you end up scratching the paint on some rich hutt's yacht, now march, missy!"

You hear a groan, and a moment later you are face to face with Mareen's frustrated step-daughter, Also. She is clearly a step-daughter, too, what with her being almost a full foot shorter, with a head full of blazing red hair and a noticeably more curvy figure than Mareen's. Her freckled face is flushed red - but then it's almost always at least a little flushed so it's hard to know what to make of it - and her green eyes are looking anywhere but directly at you as she says "Come on, Uzo, let's find you a holster or whatever." and then starts dragging her slipper-clad feet across the various mismatched rugs that cover the durasteel floor. You're pretty sure she's about your age, but growing up on a ship with no one but her mom, their pet Talz, and a revolving door of criminal passengers for company hasn't seemed to do much for her maturity.

"Mind your own business, you big dust bunny!" She suddenly snaps, face growing redder as Big T makes a jerky, babbly sound with his proboscis that sounds vaguely like a laugh or a joke of some kind. Her retort only makes the big Talz laugh harder though, and he even reaches out to swipe a clawed hand at her as if to grab her playfully, but she expertly weaves out of his reach and makes her way to the back of the rec room where she can exit through the engineering section to get to the cargo bay.

"...You coming, Uzo? If you wanna rest before we land I'll find it while you take a nap, it's no big deal." She calls back from her new position across the room.

OOC: You can now choose whether you want to continue this intro scene or skip to the landing and thus the start of the action. I can continue just roleplaying these characters all day if I need to, so you let me know how far you want things to go. x3

EDIT: I had originally described Mareen as "Curvy", but now I'm switching it - Also is more full-figured while Mareen has the slender, long-legged look... needless to say that is a very important edit. xP

Uzo found that he had odd feelings about Also. Mareen was something of a terrifying mother krayt holding dominion over her nest. Also by contrast filled him with emotions he didn't understand. It wasn't that he saw her as a sister - he'd had sisters in the Order, at least of a sort, and they had more often than not filled him with a sense of either amusement or frustration. This was- different.

He walked behind the girl, thoughts a thousand parsecs away. He'd never really defined his false history for Mareen and her crew, but there was no reason to think they'd assume he was a sharp-shooter. He hadn't been dressed in Jedi robes or anything, but neither had he been wearing armor like some Jedi had taken to wearing. He'd once seen Master Obi-Wan wearing clone trooper armor, and that had always seemed strange to him. So when he'd been found he'd been wearing- Well, he couldn't remember. He'd hit his head pretty hard. But he found it difficult to believe he looked like a soldier.

They entered the engineering section before Uzo spoke. "You know, Also, your mother's got a point. Hutts aren't exactly known for being level-headed. Also, my shooting could use some practice." He blurted out that last without thinking, and immediately clamped his mouth shut. He wasn't sure why he'd said it. Control, Uzo. Control.

OOC: Very important indeed. ;)

Also raises a ginger eyebrow at your words as she leads you through the engineering section and into the starboard cargo bay. “Well hopefully you won’t need any practice, but if you want some anyway I think a have a couple of old blaster remotes lying around back here somewhere.” The girl keys in an access code on a large, dusty cargo crate and it swings open with a hiss. “Give me a sec - this is where I keep all the drek that dumb passengers leave behind...” She leans over the edge of the container and starts rummaging around within, seemingly oblivious to the view she’s giving you of her... back pockets.

“So, what were you doing on Ord Ezado if you’re not a clone and you’re no good with blasters? Are you a...” She pauses to grunt and lean over a little farther into the crate, before finally emerging with a musty-looking bandolier that has an empty holster and ammo pockets attached, as well as a single rusty blaster remote. “...A separatist or something?” She promptly tosses the belt to you and then shuts the crate before hopping up to sit atop it, weighing the remote in one hand and fixing her hair with the other.

The cargo hold is dimly lit but even so you can make out the small, mischievous smirk on her face - she looks more like she would be amused than anything else if you admitted to having a treasonous past. You suppose she's probably helped transport far worse than separatists in her lifetime.

OOC: Gasp! I just realized that I changed the name of the ship without realizing! I totally forgot was that it was supposed to be called the Nostromo! Sorry about that! I can change it back if you like. >_<

The boy watched Also bend over, staring at her backside for a moment before realizing what he was doing. Immediately he turned his face away, blushing. Fortunately, she managed to drag his attention back with her question. "I'm not Sep," he said with more feeling than he intended. He repeated himself, "I'm not a Separatist," more coolly. He wasn't sure what to tell her immediately, so he caught the bandolier. It looked... sketchy, to say the least. He'd seen better-quality remotes in the Temple while training with his lightsaber. "But I'm not a soldier, either," he added, shoving the blaster into the aging bandolier.

In any event it was better to avoid the truth for the moment. For all Uzo knew there was a bounty on the heads of all Jedi. Also and her smuggler mother would probably be happy for a free payday. They seemed like good people. So had the clones. His eyes trailed up her body, blush growing, and finally he insisted, "Maybe Yoda I am, hiding in body this, hmm?" he grinned as he spoke in a mock-Yoda voice.

OOC: No need to change the name, boss. If it's not Nostromo there's no risk of xenomorphs attacking. That's how that works, right? :D

The redhead rolls her emerald eyes at your attempt at diversion and pulls her legs up onto the crate so that she can curl up upon it. “Fine then, be that way, mystery boy.” She starts intently fiddling with the dials on the remote, wearing a conspicuous frown. “You aren’t the first secretive weirdo we’ve picked up on this ship, and you won’t be the last, either.” She produces a hydrospanner from somewhere in her clothing and starts to take apart the remote so that she can fiddle with the wiring within seemingly unconsciously. “And just like all the rest, you can take your secrets with you when you go. You watch as she slaps the device back together with droid-like precision, and all at once it seems like she never even took it apart, but this time when she presses the button, it floats out of her hand and hovers in the air.

”So did you wanna practice with that pea shooter or would you rather I leave first so that you can have more secrets?” She looks at you with thinly-veiled contempt in her eyes, though where this contempt suddenly came from, you have no idea. Even with your mostly untrained senses you can tell that it isn’t so much directed at you as it is the idea of you - or perhaps of someone like you.

OOC: If you want to practice with the remote, go ahead and roll me a Blaster skill roll, or Dexterity since I don’t think you have blaster. There’s no set difficulty unless you have a goal in mind - just the higher you roll, the more impressive your marksmanship. If you want to use the Force to make yourself look that much cooler then go ahead and make the relevant rolls for that, too.

Uzo was upset by the contempt in her voice. He was even more upset by the fact that he didn't understand why he was upset. He wanted to jerk the pistol from its sheath and fire it repeatedly into the remote. Instead he jerked it free and checked to ensure it was on its lowest setting.

The Padawan sighed. He hated to lie to her. "Listen, Also. I-" He looked at the floor. He blew out another sigh. What could he tell her? The truth. But I'm a Jedi, please turn me in, seemed stupid. But- But his master had once pointed out that the truth had many sides. "Also, I'm not a mystery. I'm just a- a guy. I was with a man who is-" He stopped, pain flashing through him. He had never been terribly close to Ali'k'tet, but the twi'lek had been his master for long enough that he'd grown attached and the thought of Alik brought on thoughts of all the other friends he'd lost. When he continued, his voice was thick with emotion, "-was a scholar. He was following the clone army. We were ambushed and..."

Uzo shrugged. It was the truth. From a certain point of view.

Reaching out with the Force, he felt the Universe fade into the background, highlighting the remote in his mind. He took aim at the droid and fired - and the shot missed, albeit barely. He couldn't believe it. He also couldn't believe that he'd tried to use the Force - to impress her? He opened his mouth. "Uh. See? Not a- not a soldier."

OOC:
12:29, Today: Uzo Kitt rolled 9 using 2 dice and +2 pips with the WEG Classic system ((2,{Wild}5)). That was a Sense roll for Combat Sense. I... do not have confidence in my Force skills. ;)

12:31, Today: Secret Roll: Uzo Kitt rolled 9 using 3 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 3,1,{Wild}5. blaster.

Just another note, I'm treating Uzo as ignorant of the fact that the Sith exist (aside from as an historical note). Given their portrayals in the movies, I don't see the Council as telling Padawans "so here's the full, unadulterated truth. We're facing off against two Sith." The Council itself undoubtedly knows, but it seems like they keep some things fairly close to the vest (admittedly, in part to keep Padawan from being lured to another path).

"No, you're definitely not that." Her tone is mocking, but you can tell your words have softened her mood slightly.

You take a few more shots at the remote, mostly missing but occasionally getting really close. After the remote finishes its program it descends from where it had been hovering and sweeping about, and Also plucks it out of the air. The look on her face has mostly gone from annoyed to accepting, and when she speaks her tone has evened out. “Well, I’m sorry you lost your... friend?” She shrugs, sliding off the crate and slipping back into her ship-slippers. “I guess I understand not wanting to talk too much about it.” She walks a little bit past you and stares off into the piles of dusty crates that fill the back of the cargo hold. ”For what it’s’ worth, I’m glad we found you down in that ditch - even if you won’t explain how you got there. My mom and Big T aren’t really talkers, and I’m not allowed to speak to most passengers we get... so it’s kinda nice having someone around, even someone with secrets.”

She turns back to you, her mischievous smirk back in its usual spot. “And I guess as long as you’re here I get to unravel all those weird little secrets of yours. At least until you figure out what you want to do next.” She draws in a little closer to you, looking you with amusement in her eyes. "So don't die down there, okay?" As her final act, she reaches out to give your nose a little flick with one of her fingers before turning and walking out, remote in hand.

"Alright, we're going to be landing in hanger thirteen in about twenty minutes." Mareen's much gruffer voice suddenly comes crackling throughout the ship. "I want everyone who ain't staying off the ship ASAP, or my furry friend will toss you out, so be ready!"

OOC: That all makes sense!

"I'm always happy to talk," Uzo responded with a half-smile. He could sense her change of attitude toward him, slight though it may have been. He looked up as Mareen's voice came over the intercom. "And I'll try not to die," he added. Pursing his lips, the Padawan checked his blaster, changing the charge to stun1. Putting the blaster back in its place at his hip. "Any- advice, Also? This is... this is going to be a new experience for me."

We’ve stopped off on Teth dozens of times before, and while I’ve never been allowed off the ship here... my mom always comes back just fine.” She shrugs.

”So... just relax! You’ll know if things are going bad because she’ll shoot first - she always shoots first. But since nothing is going to happen, maybe you could bring me back something nice?” She chuckles and then finally disappears around the corner, heading towards the cockpit.
