Scene 2, part 2: Once again in the Forest of Bron

Gorna retrieved her rope from the napsack

After wiping some watery mud from his brow, Rorn took the proffered rope with a smile and wrapped the coil around his right shoulder.

Then, ignoring the pain in his knee, he heaved up on Larson's back.

"Oooof."

There was a momentary wobble, and a slippery scrabbling, but gravity was defeated .. at least for now.  Rorn then carefully placed first one foot, then the other, on the shoulders of the big man and reached for the edge ....

"All .... mosssst ....."

Skill Roll: 7 + 4 - 2 = 9  Success??
If special skill of "Climb" helps there, then add +1 for 10.  Although I think "Climb" would be for the next roll?

10:29, Today: Rorn rolled 4 using 2d6.  Rorn skill roll to reach edge of pit.

Scene 2, part 2: Once again in the Forest of Bron

Now for the hard(er) part ... Rorn hopes his relative lack of reach won't cause him to tumble back down to the muck-spattered earthen floor of the pit.

He spies a likely-looking low branch and jumps for it!

Skill Roll 7.  Looks like a failure with a -3 penalty, even with a +1 Climb skill?

16:15, Today: Rorn rolled 7 using 2d6.  Rorn skill roll to lift out of pit.

Rorn hands on to a root and tries lifting himself out of the pit, when the root breaks and he falls back into the mud.
[OOC Larson loses one point of STAMINA due to his effort and Rorn loses two points of STAMINA, between effort and bruises]
The level of cold, muddy water in the pit increased and rain keeps pouring in. You are freezing.

Scene 2, part 2: Once again in the Forest of Bron

Larson puts his hand into the muddy water and pulls Rorn to his feet.

"Ok good attempt now we try again. This time I will lean my back to the wall and you climb up me facing the wall. I will then grab your feet and hoist you higher than my shoulders. If you lean into the wall I should be able to slide you up while the wall will keep you steady . Hopefully that will get your shoulders above the lip of the pit"

... the root breaks and he falls back into the mud.

"Whaa-aaagh ... !"  SPLAT  "Rgg .. rgghhh."

Rorn nods at the taller man's new plan, rubbing a sore shoulder to go with his battered leg from the original fall.  "Oookay.  Let's try that."

He also pulls out his hatchet, ready to bury the axe-head into the earthen pit wall for extra stability.

Can my character use the axe for a bonus on rolls this time?  Lacking pitons/hammer etc. for a proper climb it is all he has :)

Scene 2, part 2: Once again in the Forest of Bron

[OOC Let's try it again!
1) Larson boosts Rorn up against slippery walls, under pouring rain, with uneven ground under his feet, but facing inwards and using his arms to prop him up doing a SKILL roll + Strength -1
2) Rorn needs to stand with both his feet on Larson's shoulders / arms to reach the edge of the pit with his extended hands (under pouring rain, with slippery walls) doing a SKILL roll -1 (you can have a +1 by using the axe, but if you fail the axe will fall down with you, with a likely accident / extra damage)
3) finally, Rorn needs to hold on something like a root, branch or the like (made slippery by mud and pouring rain), and lift himself out of the pit doing a SKILL roll -3 (you can have a +1 by using the axe, but if you fail the axe will fall down with you, with a likely accident / extra damage)
Easy, isn't it?]

Scene 2, part 2: Once again in the Forest of Bron

If I understand the rules, Larson succeeded ...

Using the axe was probably not a wise man's move but Rorn figures it will give him the edge he needs to get out of the pit successfully.  Hoisted up again, he tugs on the rope coil to make sure it is secure and then slowly stands up on Larson's shoulders.

"Hold steady big fella," he calls down and then drives the axe into the lip of the earthen pit.  Hopefully this will do the trick ....

Rolled a 5 versus a target of 7+1 = 8, hooray :)

11:11, Today: Rorn rolled 5 using 2d6.  Rorn skill roll to reach edge of pit with extended hands, and axe.

"Gal if I fall again you better catch me!!" Rorn called down.  Keeping his balance, he pulled the axe out and then reversed it so it would act like a hook.  Ignoring the treacherous branch that had betrayed him last time, the youngster instead swung out towards a mess of brambles.

Yes, he might get a dozen thorns biting his hands but at least the stems are thick, almost like rope themselves.  He pulled with the axe then grabbed a handful of spiky plant and heaved himself up ...

Rats, looks like a fail .. 9 vs a target of 7-3+1 = 5.  Booo!

11:16, Today: Rorn rolled 9 using 2d6.  Rorn skill roll to lift out of pit, using axe.

No good plants!  The brambles give way too in the watery earth and the whole clump comes loose as Rorn slides back down to the bottom of the trap.

At least he has the sense to fling the axe away so that it lands safely in a corner .. well, he tries to do that, anyway!!

18:21, Today: Rorn rolled 8 using 2d6.  The dreaded axe roll.

You near a nasty, leering Goblin voice...

Oh no!  They were stuck like pigs in a pen down here .. Rorn feels a bit panicky as he gets his bow ready to shoot if necessary.

"Cowards!!" Rorn screams up at the goblins while scampering out of the way of the larger rocks.  Too bad enough of the smaller ones were smashing off his head and shoulders to make him stagger and eventually slip and fall into the muck.

Still, he was hoping to see at least one goblin face before he died, so as to put an arrow through its eye and send it to whatever Hell it deserved.

Scene 2, part 2: Once again in the Forest of Bron

Witch?  Choosing between goblins or a witch seemed a strange kind of fate, but as long as those stones were not falling it just might mean they would live a little longer!

Rorn shoots a quick glance towards the others in the pit to see if anyone knew what 'the witch' might mean .. Rorn certainly was confident they weren't talking about old Missus Scrathers, a particularly hag-ish old drab who lived in the old mill by the river.

Then he decides a new plan was needed to escape the trap, before they ran out of energy or simply froze to death.  He grabs the rope and makes a loop on one end and pulls a tight knot near the base.  Then, he hauls the coil around and offers it to Larson.

"You're way stronger and taller than me ... see if you can swing this out and over and catch it on something - rock, trunk, anything and then we can just climb out!"
