2100 - The Garage

A simple vehicle produced with Classic Traveller, Striker.

Quad Bike TL9
L 1.5m
W 0.8m
H 1m
Weight: 0.75t
Density 0.1dT in crate
Power: 0.025MW Fuel Cell
Tank: 25L
Endurance 2hrs
Road Speed: 115kph (70mph)
X-Country Speed: 35kph (20mph)

The quad bike is a useful camp workhorse. It uses a fuel cell and bottled Hydrogen gas that can be refilled from a ship’s fuel tanks. It is shipped in a packing crate which doubles as a garage and acts as a ‘0.1dT fitted compartment’ for the vehicle. There is a 0.1m^3, 10kg cargo rack as standard, and a 0.5m^3, 50kg rack that may be fitted in place of the pillion seat. It is supplied with a spare wheel, a simple tool kit, a 1 tonne pulley, two spare gas bottles, a stock of ‘consumable’ spares, a small cargo net and a selection of hooks, grapples and fasteners.

NB. I can't recall if the Quad Bike uses LHyd or my houserules for compressed gas storage, and I don't have access to my design notes. If the fuel and range figures don't tally with the fuel cell size under Striker, that's why.

Description:
The rotary flyer is an aerodynamic, carbon fibre airframe designed to carry two people in tandem configuration, one of whom is the pilot. It is significantly lighter than conventional helicopters, and has a compactness similar to conventional aircraft. The reduced complexity of the craft makes it significantly cheaper than conventional helicopters, but its light weight makes it difficult to control in turbulent conditions.
It is capable of lifting cargo of some 200kg, but there is limited space inside. However, there are fitments of hooks and slings for suspending loads beneath the aircraft for slow haulage operations.

The flyer has small wheels that allow it to taxi on smooth surfaces.
