Alright, lets take some time to discuss loot distribution. Don't worry about gold values, once we know what we're doing I'll figure out the optimal shares and splits OOC and then IC we can sell and distribute.
That being said, if anyone would like to claim something, speak now.
I am assuming everyone is taking a horse. If you
DON'T want a horse, that is fine. I am going to reserve two additional horses so we can purchase a cart and then things like encumbrance are not too much of an issue.
All the mundane adventuring stuff is going to be sold except for the trail rations BUT if you want a whetstone or waterskin because you didn't purchase one at character creation please speak up.
The BIG item that I think there is going to be a fight over is the
Composite Darkwood Longbow
It is a masterwork equivalent so will blow out your share however that doesn't mean nobody can claim it...
Loot Distribution
My proposal is that all items go into a common pot and we then split the value of those items 8 ways (7 PCs plus an additional "party share" more on that later)
b
So if there is 80gp worth of stuff, we would each get 10gp. If you want to claim an item, you basically buy that item's value off of everyone else so if there was 80gp worth of stuff but you want an 7gp item then your share is that item plus 3gp while everyone else then gets 11gp worth of stuff.
(any change gets put into the party pot).
The advantage is that items we find only cost value of what it would sell for so it is usually more efficient to use the stuff we find then try and sell and buy however sometimes you get stuff nobody really wants so we sell it and divvy it up.
Party Share
The party share can be used to make party-wide communal purchases, typically things like bags of holding or wands of cure light wounds. In addition players can opt to go over their amount and dip into the party funds with approval from everyone. I will track those overages and they will then pay back the party over time by taking a reduced share.
Contested Items & Lottery
If multiple people want an item then they can speak up and put in a claim. All qualified will then be entered into a lottery and someone can make make a public dX roll and whoever the RNGods pick is the winner. When someone is picked though they lose out on the ability to participate in future lotteries until everyone is equal again.
Here is an example
quote:
Octavia, Raz and Silas want to claim a Cloak of Resistance. They each put in a claim and Raz wins (wink)
Now the tally sheet looks like this:
Name | Wins |
---|
Octavia | 0 |
Raz | 1 |
Silas | 0 |
A ring of water breathing comes up and all three want the item. Raz is kicked out because he has 1 win while Silas and Octavia have 0 wins. Octavia and Silas lay claim and the RNGods pick Octavia. The tally sheet looks like this now:
Name | Wins |
---|
Octavia | 1 |
Raz | 1 |
Silas | 0 |
Next is a handy haversack. IF Silas wants it then he automatically gets it because he has the fewest wins. If he doesn't want it and Octavia and Raz do, then it goes to a dice roll again.
Basically if you hold back you forgo loot right away but then have a better chance of getting the stuff you REALLY want later on.
Big Ticket Items
Sometimes there is a big ticket item that blows the shares out. Unlike overages, you can lay claim to a BTI and all that does is forgo all other rewards from that share distribution. No pay backs are necessary because you're not actually taking gold out of people's piles.
HOWEVER to represent the importance of those BTI's, laying claim to a BTI counts as a lottery win whether it is contested or not.
To clarify: a Big Ticket Item (BTI) is an item who's value is worth more then TWICE an entire share. If shares are 500gp each and an item has a sale value of 750gp, you'll forgo all other rewards but that isn't really big enough to throw a fuss over. However if shares are 500gp and an item is 2,500gp then that is a big ticket item and will count as a lottery ticket if claimed.
Note, the language on this is negotiable. If you want a BTI to be defined as say x3 a share or you want to increase the # of shares going to the party that is prime discussion.
