Re: Into the stolen lands to route the bandits from their camp

“Thank you mind masters.  We shall help repair the wagon and get it ready to go.”

The wagon is loaded with goods but one of the wheels is out of alignment and appears to need a new cotter peg or pin

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Basically it needs a short dowel or either wood our metal to make the wheel secure

Re: Into the stolen lands to route the bandits from their camp

Random encounter has happened.....

From somewhere deep in the woods you hear a screeching howl that sounds like some bizarre combination of bird and beast....

Knowledge nature or local DC 15

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
This is the call of an owlbear, a truely formidable beast....

DC 20

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Undoubtedly an OwlBear and an adult one at that

DC 25

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
The creature is truely far away in the deep woods, and you are hearing a distant echo of a far away threat

The call results in Llyod and Harry to jump under the wagon they were previously working on....

Re: Into the stolen lands to route the bandits from their camp

Tauron head back to the group very quickly at the noise.
He turns to Octavia Cassiana and his look not good one.
Well Lady Octavia it seems your going to get lesson in nature and prove your battle honor all in one.  One of the reason for not killing unless you have to is dead bodies and blood attracts predictor and vulchers.  Either of which are helpful to have around.  Seems like your blood letting many have gained us a new friend.

That noise is a adult Owlbear.  They like rabid foxes.  They kill until either what they can smell is dead or they are.

He places himself in middle of the clearing bow ready with an arrow in it.

He turns to Tatyana.  How quickly can you get up on one them platforms.  You maybe able to see how close it is and which way it coming from.  Filarion can you find somewhere to bury the body so smell of it's blood does not draw the creature to us if has not done so already.  We may get lucky.  Either way it problem we going to have to deal with sometime.

"Owlbear ya say?  Heard of them but never seen one before. Better fetch my bow."Drezghl replied to Tauron.

He turned and started to trot back to the camp fire area where they sprang their ambush.

"You two, get back to work. We may have to leave on a hurry." , he shouted at the prisoners.

"There's kind of a problem with that," the elf says looking around, "There's about a dozen bodies. There's no way we can bury them all."

Tatyana nods to Tauron and shimmies up a nearby tree to the platform atop it. She listens as the screeching howl echoes again ...

"It's all right, everyone. That is indeed an owlbear, but too far distant to be much of a threat right now.  But still ... the scent of so many bodies will carry far. We need to get them organized and burned, or buried, as you choose. But it needs to be soon."

With another glance around the surrounding area, she moves to the nearest trunk and slides back down.

Her gaze immediately falls on Filarion. In a deadly-serious tone, she says only, "be careful what you wish for," before moving to help get rid of the bodies.

Relieved that they had some time, Filarion got busy dragging the corpses into a pile with the two bandits and anyone else who joined in. Using an already established fire pit, he worked to clear the immediate area of anything that might set the forest ablaze. It was hard work, but he got it done as efficiently as possible.

After a full day of clearing the bodies and fixing the wagon.

The two bandits cook a big pot of beans and add a salted ham hock to the pot.

It is not a great dinner or breakfast but it doesn’t come out of anyone s trail rations.

The wagon ride will be ploddingly

While the beans were cooking, Drezghl asked the party.

"We need to go collect our horses and packs. Best get them before the owlbear does. Who wants to some with me?"

Seeing the bandit stop the other one, Filarion's face darkens. With a turn he quickly stomps over to them and glares at the first one. "Since you are so unwilling to volunteer, you'll be the one working the hardest. Get on your feet and come with us." He then grabs the man by his shirt and hoists him up, turns him, and then give him a light push to get him moving twords Drezghl.

"Seems we have a volunteer," he announced loudly, "and I will join you as well."

At some point earlier, Tatyana had taken some food items and shimmied back up the tree to the lookout post nearest where the party had effectively made camp.

"Go ahead," she called down, bow now in hand. "I'll watch this one if someone would be kind enough to recover my horse as well."

She winked one eye at the remaining former-bandit and made a shooting motion with her thumb and forefinger at him.

Giving a deep, almost comical bow to Tatyana, the elf warrior says, "A favor for ma'lady? But of course!" He then looks up at her with a broad smile and a nod before trotting off towards where they'd hidden the horses.

Re: Into the stolen lands to route the bandits from their camp

The trip back to Oleg's is uneventful, except for the ongoing wind that has been blowing across the plains.

It is nearly nightfall when you can see Oleg's in the distance.  Despite the wind there are two watchmen posted in the towers.

The gate hangs half open with heavy rope still the primary thing holding the gates upright.

You hear the clear din of a cowbell coming from the fort as apparently that is the warning system now in place.

By the time you arrive at the gates. Oleg, and Kesten Garess (the commander of the men at arms) and the other two guards meet you at the gate.

Oleg: "What Word?"

Svetlana peeks out the door "Oleg! let them in they look half starved!"
Oleg grumbles

A small boy dressed in tattered clothing comes out with a brush...
"I ken rub down yer horses an stable em."

Kesten pipes in. ”So you have defeated the bandits where they laired and obtained their ill gotten gains.”

The small lad holds out his hand for a copper piece...

Oleg catches on
”Goods you say! After dinner I will get my ledger and we can review your goods and make a bill of sale.”

You hear hammering and see Imira on the roof...ignoring the wind
