Heebie:
Not sure how Heebie managed to get into the frontline. Might be a problem with the icons. To my knowledge he has not moved and was next to Delia. He was also supposed to be watching the other end of the corridor.

Nope, he hasn't moved. Here are the three battlemats thus far ...

Before the fight ...

After round 1 ...

After round 2 ...

Alwin:
Is it possible to move in between the spiders along the diagonal to get into melee with them?

No, you're blocked at the moment.

In game terms do we need to continue with the rest or are we good to go?

You still have a couple of hours of rest to go.

Saba:
”I’m no healer, but even to me that doesn’t sound like the wisest thing you could do after being bitten by a spider.”. He looks up to Brother Solomon.  ”Is there anything you can do for him?”

I was really just giving a colorful explanation for why I (the player) forgot that we were resting before the spiders attacked.  :)

Game Map
As it's clear that none of you are likely to be troubling the Worshipful Guild of Cartographers, from this point forward I'll try and keep the Game Map image updated as you explore. It will allow me to remove some of the tedious dimensions from the room descriptions and should give you a better sense of place. Through the magic of Roll20, your view will be restricted by line-of-sight and illumination.

However, I won't be "furnishing" any of the game maps with detail - they are just there to give you an impression of shape and scale of your immediate surroundings. In other words, just because the room/corridor/cave looks empty on the map, doesn't mean that it is actually empty in the dungeon itself.

Also, from my experience, you sometimes have to refresh your browser to get the Game Map to update, so bear that in mind if the map doesn't appear to match the text.

DM I was getting there, very slowly I admit, but honestly, I was.  I think, no I know your solution is far superior and in my book only adds to your mana as a DM.

Given that Saba is scratching the map on the top of a beer coaster with a dart tip any detail other than the rough room shape is superfluous.

I think that I also like this a lot more.  I'm just too tired to be as eloquent as Saba.

As we're at a potentially critical juncture, I'm holding for Alwin's and Ralph's response to Heebie's intervention ...

I think our good DM is dressing down the danger, as the word critical seems to be a well-placed euphemism? :o)

Does anyone here remember the arachnid word for sleep?

Sorry for the delay.  My wife and I accelerated our plans to buy a new house by approximately seven years.  We are quite unprepared. :)

I always enjoy being surprised by recognizing players from other games by their OOC comments!

The house thing sounds like a nightmare of mine.

Re: Game Map
If you get a chance, esteemed DM and master of graphics, would you create a separate "legend" map to remind us which character goes to which token?

Thanks.

I like the light source and darkness radius.

In reply to Delia (msg # 167):

You can now see your artistic talents in all their glory under the "Main Game Map". The actual game map is under Group 0, which is the one linked in the forum posts.

I'll also turn on the labels in Roll20 so you see them in all future map images, although things sometimes get a little cluttered when tokens are close together in melee.

I know some of you were reluctant at the time, but I genuinely like the tokens. Even the "basic" ones are far more characterful and personal than the run-of-the-mill stock images.

Re: Game Map
Legend is perfect.  On tough days, we can look back and see what we looked like with full hit points.

Ground to a Halt
With no player posts in the last week, it seems like the game has ground to a halt. It's therefore time to move on to something new.

Thank you all for playing and good luck in your other adventures.

I think we're stuck waiting on Heebie to lead the way, but he hasn't logged in recently.

I'm still here, but I understand if you feel we are at an end.

If so, thanks for running.  I enjoyed it while it lasted.

Eh? And I was waiting for someone else to say something. Can’t have one character to drive just cause he has the lantern. Heebie was the last to post IC.

Oh well best of luck everyone.

Ground to a Halt
It's a common problem with play by post games.  No one can tell if anyone is waiting on anyone else.  Oftentimes folks don't post because they expect someone else is in a better position to post and everyone sits and stares at one another.

Exploration is a similar problem.  It's monotonous to have everyone post that they're just following the leader every time the leader moves.

OOC msg#38
quote:
I propose we just let Heebie lead the way and we all follow.  Just so the DM doesn't have to wait for everyone to post, "I follow along," every time he moves forward.

I'd like to continue, but we all need to be on the same page to keep things moving smoothly.  Delia would be more than happy to lead with the lantern and make all of the decisions until anyone else chimes in.

Thanks, everyone. I’ll be withdrawing from the game, even if some of you continue. Things just haven’t clicked for me, with no fault on anyone’s part.

Still keen to continue and a little surprised there is even talk of the game breaking down.

Knowing it's summer in the northern hemisphere I expect the game to be somewhat staggered until outside in the real world doesn't look so inviting for you all.  Just to make you feel better it's pissing with rain, freezing cold with sideways wind for me right now.

I'm not sure if Delia is the best character to lead, not because of anything other than 1st level magic-user hit points.  Saba is keeping away from the front and not posting first for that very reason.

DM I think with the fix on the otherwise onerous and mundane mapping (I was getting to it, really I was) the game is on the right track.  Let us know if you still think there is enough interest from your players to continue with the one casualty of Brother Solomon.
