RP Realm: Grinor (Richard)
Over the years Richard had weathered many a storm. He had learned to smell on them on the air, taste the excitement of the wind as the wild weather blew in. Last night had been no different. As the sun had set and painted the horizon pink, orange and purple Richard had eaten the canned beans from his supply, he might have been a hermit but he wasn't a savage, and enjoyed the sound of the crackling fire. It had been a good day, he'd sifted out a handful of gold flecks from the river and that had earned himself some of the good food tonight. Not that he particularly needed the money, his way of life was simple and no tax man ever made the long journey out to his cave, but there was a satisfaction in turning up the bounty of the earth.

When his camp fire had begun to blow with the increasing wind, Richard had stamped out the remaining embers and withdrawn into his cave. That night he'd fallen asleep listening to the howling at of the storm outside. It was the music of the wilds and lulled him to sleep. Then he woke up and felt like death.

It was like the time he'd been stung by the scorpion. Rolling out of his sleeping bag, Richard kicked at the threadbare bed, but nothing came scampering out. He also didn't feel a sharp pain anywhere that would tell him where he was stung. Maybe he was getting sick? But this didn't feel like the food poisoning he had two seasons ago. Still sorting it out, he staggered to them mouth of the cave and found... nothing. His beloved desert was simply gone. The world ended an arms reach from the cave opening. The stars he knew so well were vanished from the sky, as was the sun that his senses insisted should be hanging overhead. It was all just gone.

But he could also sense something else, something prickling at the edge of his consciousness, like a word on the tip of ones tongue:

Aspects Available

Second Wind: Richard felt he could draw his breath, regain his bearings and steady his foggy mind. It would only take a few moments of concentration and he could put aside some of his current discomfort.
Stat Increase: +3 Stats

Brave New World: Then there was the map he kept hung on his cave wall. It should have depicted the surrounding desert, the longitude and latitude of each mile of desolate landscape along with the nearby town of Water's Hole. But it was black. There was only one yellow sandy dot in the middle. It seemed the map had to learn its role all over again.
Artifact: Self-scripting map, it will etch out the areas that Richard explores.

Untouched Wilds: Then there was something else. A pile of sand nearby. It looked familiar, so very familiar. So very much like the desert that had spread out below his cave only the day before. It looked like he could pluck up that pile and hold his hold stomping grounds in his hand again.
Realm: +2 Borders

Trademark Skill Bonus:

And there was something else too. Hidden, but Richard had a sense for it.

Hidden Wealth: Kicking at the ground, dirt shifted and came lose. Beneath it Richard found nuggets of gold, silver, copper and spilling jewels. It was riches of the sort he'd hunted for over the long years. Though... not quite, while it looked like gold, it felt more like the concept of wealth. It was taking on a familiar form here, but it was shift and mold.
Supernatural Ability: Flush - Richard is always wealthy with whatever is the mundane currency of the realm.

Richard would be able to pluck up one of these treasures, whether knowingly or relying on some newfound instinct, but only one. The others would lose their gleam and be lost.

Grinor Desert. A sun-beaten wasteland filled with stones and sand. A desolate place that even coyotes avoided if they could stand it. It was here that Richard had made his home. At least it was his home until today. Now all that was left was his cave and the rock surrounding it; perhaps a few feet in every direction. Beyond that was simply void and not a perpetual darkness either. Just the total absence of anything, a concept that was devoid of even its own substance.

It was harrowing to say the least, damn frightening to speak plainly.

Taking stock of the items, or concepts of items, around him he decided that wealth didn't hold much value anymore, not that he cared much for it in the first place, and instead turned his attention to his newly reformed map.

"Now what in the world has happened to you? For that matter what happened to everything."

Richard takes Brave New World

Focusing his attention onto the map on the cave, the gleaming treasure at Richard's feet lost its luster and the sand nearby started to look decidedly less familiar. Examining the map more closely, Richard was at a loss for what was going on. In all his years living in the wilds and the two and a half decades when he lived amongst the busyness of civilization, he'd never heard of anything like what was occurring. His altered map remained stubbornly mysterious.

Counting his remaining cans of food, bottled water and matches, Richard determined he was not in immediate danger of starving, but that was little relief when his whole world was now a cave suspended in nothingness. Needless to say, he refamiliarized himself with his surroundings. After living in the same cave for a score of years, even a subtle change was noticeable. Thus Richard did not miss the new crack that had opened up along his wall. It looked deep and was wide enough he could squeeze through if he expelled his breath and was comfortable scrapping the rock on his either.

And he'd have to be, because on the other side he saw something, which was a great step up from nothing.

It was a world of scattered fragments, like a team of demolitionists had come through and torn everything down but not bothered to clean up their works. The ground out there was a solid black sheet, smooth and flawless, and the detritus laid atop this solid sheet of Void. Out there, some of the chunks of wreckage were larger than others. Tangles of trees, another looked like a looming gothic church, further out he saw a single mountain shrouded in fog.

Points of Interest

There were two main spots that caught Richard's eye currently though. Nearby he saw a concrete archway. Through it he heard a cacophony of noise, the sound of civilization. It had been many long years since he'd shunned his fellow man, but Richard recognized those sounds. The honk of cars, screech of breaks. It was the sound of big city life.

Then there was barn nearby. It was a rustic looking thing, its paint showed a trace of fading, but it was overall in good shape. The door of the place was unlatched and swung freely. With each swing it showed a glimpse of warm sunlight and vibrant green hillsides beyond.

Richard was still tired, even exploring his cave had winded him, but he thought he could make the short jaunt across to either of those sites.

Richard was not someone who would describe himself as particularly brave or intelligence, especially now that his mind was virtually in a fog and he felt as though his body was reeling just to stay upright. All the same he recognized the distinct difference between something and nothing.

Exhaling he flattened himself and squeezed through the rocks. Note to self. If this doesn't turn out terribly widen crack. All that aside he had long since shunned modern society so for better or worse he took his chances with the rustic barn.

Richard returned to his cave, squeezing himself back through the crack that had opened up in his wall. The first thing he did was consult his map, trying to plot out where Issleton and Kaviros' realm were in reference to his own. How much Void separated them and was their any sort of discernible orientation to it all.

From there he would have a seat and contemplate what had happened. He had just traveled worlds and meet people, beings from other Realities than his own. Then there was this lingering sensation in the back of his mind, a sort of power that called to be used. Shaped by his mind and given life through his will.

The real question then became: who was he to create life?

No it was too large a task for a mortal man. Anything he created he would be responsible for and what would they inherit but a patch of floating dirt and stone? Instead Richard contemplated on this new power.

Pulling himself back through the crevice in his cave wall, Richard found himself home again and felt not a small degree of relief. In the last handful of hours he'd talked more than he had in the last two decades. He'd had exotic drinks, eaten freshly cooked food, been to a party. He'd even danced with a young maiden! That was to say nothing of impossible doorways in the other, men who claimed to be spirits, and the fact he was experiencing two existences at this very moment.

All of that aside, Richard was due a quiet moment. Unfolding the map that had once hung from his cave wall, he looked it over and found new colors added to its nearly absolute place. He saw his sandy speck in the middle still, but around it was now scattered shapes. Lines came off his sandy spec and revealed a close up of what appeared to be his cave. Another line came off the barn on the map and revealed a green circle with several brown squares, houses? Yes, it did resemble Issleton from what he recalled. It was hard to say, his head was still swimming. Then there was another square, one of mixed greens and blue circles, it must have been Kairos' glade. It sat off to one side with no connecting line, the map too seemed unsure of where exactly that sweltering jungle glade was in relation to everything else.

With new context, Richard was better able to make sense of the map. It was a complicated thing. Near as he could tell, it was attempting to layer several existences atop one another. It showed the strange black between place that lay just beyond the crack in his cave wall, and it showed connecting lines that offered blown up maps of the individual worlds he'd visited. He also saw a number of landmarks on the map that he'd seen during his hike through the black between space, they had blended in with the other rubble, but the map seemed to have deemed them important enough to appear on the page.

Richard examined his map and noticed that the list of locations available to him was longer than he had actually visited. Perhaps it was the result of his encounters with the others? Perhaps these were simply the most stable destinations. Given what he had learned by traveling to Issleton and the Steam Glade, these realm fragments seemed to be linked to places of increasing stability.

He decided that nothing would be gained by waiting around and decided that the sandstone cliffs seemed an appropriate place to travel to next.

Scruitizing the map for a few more minutes, Richard rolled it up and tucked it away again. Squeezing through the crack, Richard left Grinor and made his way back to the Cosmic Wastes, intent on exploring the oddity that was a free standing chimney nearby.

Transitioning from the Cosmic Wastes

It had been a long, long while since Richard had first squeezed through the crack in his cave wall. He hadn't looked back since and it felt strange and foreign when he found that sandstone wall and pressed himself through his tight confines. On the other side, he pushed back into his cave.

And there he found it was already occupied.

A man in tattered furs was sitting crossed legged on the floor, faded blue lines of paint crossed his face and he had his eyes closed in contemplative silence. The cave itself was lit up by a half dozen translucent spheres hanging in the air and giving off a soft shimmering glow. One floated closer to Richard and let out a sweet note like a struck tuning fork. On the ground the seated man opened up one eye and squinted at Richard grumpily. "Go away, this is my cave."

Richard moved into Grinor and felt a pilgrim in a foreign land which was wrong on every conceptual level since this place had been his home for the last decade and he was the only person who had any rights to be here, let alone redecorating the place with....floating...orbs.

Well that wasn't normal. Not normal at all.

That being said what was really "normal" anymore. That aside for the moment, Richard moved into the cave and came face to face with the squatter. Deciding that diplomacy worked better than bluster he sat down in front of the man.

"Oots. I am Richard Jamieson. I've lived in this cave for 10 years. Who are you?"

"I'm me." the unkept figure replied. He paused and blinked a few times, the orbs around the room shimmered white, then returned to be translucent bubbles. "Some used to call me Utgar, but that was somewhere else. Now I'm me. And now I live here."

Richard listened and nodded as the man spoke, his arms crossed in front of him.

"I see. Alright then. Well welcome to Grinor. I don't have much but you're welcome to it all the same. Oh and you might see some floating white creatures moving about but don't worry."

Richard rose from his seated position and walked past his new tenet. Given the situation that Reality was in he didn't think his energy was spent well trying to argue about the legality of private property and the concept of ownership.

"So Utgar where are you from originally?"

While he spoke he searched for the aspects he had collected and put them into place.

"Originally I was from over there," Utgar says, pointing at another spot of dirt, "And through there," he continues, pointing at the crevice through which Richard has made his own journey. "I also recall a place with trees and skies and animals. But I also recall the taste of red, and that doesn't seem quite right." The floating spheres in the room briefly took on a red tint at the memory, then faded back to translucency.

"I see. Memories can be a mercurial thing."

Once the aspects were properly...installed perhaps...he turned his attention back to Utgar and gestured to the orbs.

"So what's the story with all the orbs?"

"They think about me I exist!" Utgar said as thought it were the most natural thing in the world, each of the bubbles reflecting his face for a moment, then fading back to transparency. So the conversations went. Utgar was eccentric there was no doubt, very likely not sane either, but he seemed harmless and as Richard was content to leave him be, the hermit was content to be left alone.

Richard looked at the orbs and then back to Utgar. He wasn't making heads and tails of what the man was saying but he was at least sure that orbs and Utgar were a packaged deal.

All the same he had other things to contend with. He placed Vice Aquarius in the same chamber that Utgar was, its spirits flowing into a shallow depression that was once feed by an underground spring that no longer existed. He then moved on to shifting the walls of the chamber to create a stone pathway and a circular hole that led to the empty darkness of the sky. Centered beneath the hole he rose a simple column of stone to about chest height and placed the moonstones he had received in Issleton. He shifted the tunnel so that it connected to the Fallon portal and set within it life so that it might protect the Nullbie's which he loosed freely into his realm.

"Alright that should do for now. Utgar, look after the place and don't let the Nullbie eat all the milar crystals."

With that he left Grinor.

Richard stepped out of the portal with the newly freed prisoner in tow. The portal arrived in the main chamber of Grinor where the moon altar he constructed was in the center flanked by Utgar's meditating position and the stone archway which served as the portal to the nulbbies homeworld.

"Home sweet home."

He looked to Utgar.

"Oots. This person will be saying here for a while. They are pretty worse for wear so try and treat them well."

He moved the prisoner to a rocky bench that ran along one of the walls.

"This is Grinor, my home. You are free to stay here as long as you like. There isn't much but its well fortified. Beyond that arch is a world of very small creatures known as Nulbbies. They are quite friendly and have the minds of children."

OOC: 404 error ate the first post. I'm dying inside. Here's a the lesser version

The crackling light of the portal lit up the cave as it opened. There was the sound of fluttering wings like a swarm of bats and the ghosts the choked Grinor dissipated. On the opposite wall Richard thought he saw a woman's face in those stone crags, but then the impression dissipated.

Stepping inside Richard announced their arrival to the eccentric Utgar. The fellow hermit had been busy, finger paintings had been scrawled across the walls and floors and as Richard watched they glowed from blue, to green to purple then back again, but as for the hermit himself there was no sign.

Hobbling behind Richard, the newly freed prisoner walked to one of the walls and peered at the glowing scrawls. "Messy," they croaked. Running the tips of their fingers along the paintings the lines rippled and swirled. "Power left lying about." Then she went to the spring water dripping from the ceiling and drank a handful.

It had been a long while since Richard had last visited Grinor. Aspects had gathered liked dust bunnies during his absence.

Aspects Available

The Old Satchel: Richard hadn't seen them since the apocalypse had come and gone, he'd assumed they'd been lost, but here they were. An old dusty bag, it still held his old tools. They were battered and showed the wear and tear of time, the flashlight dimmed and brightened, the pickaxe and hatchet had notches in their metal, but they were serviceable.
Artifacts: Flashlight, pickaxe and hatchet - Nothing fancy, but serviceable.

The Test of Time: A sense of timelessness hung about the place, no doubt left from the many months upon years that Richard had spent in quiet contemplation. Patience was not only a virtue, it was something of a power unto itself, the dedication to follow ones routine each day.
Supernatural Ability: Patience - Perhaps Richard was just a bit faster than others, or maybe it was the strange way in which time moved now? Regardless, Richard had a knack for dedicating himself to longer projects (IE Richard can engage in projects that normally aren't feasible in an adventure based economy)

The Witch of the North: Back in his home, Richard could feel more information coming off the woman he'd rescued, includin the knowledge that she was indeed a woman. She was a witch of some sort, he could feel powers tucked about her like secrets into pockets. But she didn't seem malign judging by the fact she hadn't lashed out the village that had served as her prison.
Agent: Nes - The old witch woman will make a home in Grinor. She'll apply temporary charms to Richard when he goes traveling (Though she's rather obstinant and insists on deciding what she provides rather than submitting to requests.)

(Bonus Trademark Aspect) Spilled Power: The scrawling lines crisscrossing the walls and floors did not make any discernable patterns or shapes. It looked like simply that, a mess. Utgar really was a bit of a slovenly houseguest. Richard found that he could coil up the glowing strings of energy like one might a rope.
Supernatural Ability: Arcane String - A Unifier can touch a wall and leave an invisible line trailing after them that starts to glow when activated. Handy for tracing ones steps.
Note: Bonus aspects can only be traded with other Unifiers.

Richard was faced with an incredibly difficult decision, if only a difficult choice because of who he was and who he wished to be. Before him was a power unlike any he thought he could obtain, even in this new world. Patience.

Patience was the mark of powerful men, those who not only weather the changing tides of today and use them to carve out a place for themselves in the future. It was the quality of giants and empires. A fact which resonated with him well beyond what it rightfully should.

Then there was Nes. She was a woman, abused and mistreated for her gifts. She stood before him now but where would the world cast her if he did not shelter her here in Grinor. It was possible that with her innate gifts should could find a safe place but for how long and what would it cost.

As he thought about this he could feel the steady beating drum within his soul and when he looked to Nes he saw the faint light of his own spiritual fire reflected in her. He knew what he had to do.

Walking forward he extended his hand.

"My name is Richard, Richard Jamieson."

Cocking her head and looking queerly at Richard's extended hand, she eventually took it, so she understood the concept. It seemed she had as many social graces as Richard himself. "Nes," she croaked, though Richard already knew her name. Walking over to a corner of the cave she eased herself onto the floor with a long groan. When she finally came to rest she squinted at the wall, then slapped it a couple times and a pair of ghostly figures when flitting away. It seemed Richard had found another oddball to add to his menagerie.

Sitting on the floor, Nes seemed quite content, she hummed a tuneless melody to herself, then looked over at Richard at waved him over. Grabbing his hand with her own bony fingers, she traced a dirty nail across the back of his hand. She didn't have ink or oil, but when she finished her complex movements a symbol glowed on the back of Richard's hand.

Temporary Charm - Seven League Step - Richard travels faster than usual, he'll be able to traverse the Wastes safely despite the zombies and can clear long distance in a much shorter time. Active until 1/25/19.

Done with her fiddling, Nes seemed quite content to sit back and make herself comfortable, in a few short moments she was letting out a wheezing snore. She seemed content for the moment, though Richard would have to find a source of food for cave if he planned to take in strays.
