How we got hereĀ the reboot
The trip back to Salmon was relaxed and it seemed as though everything would be okay. However, as Cody crested the rise at the edge of town, they could see that things were not going to be as Officer Kendle had told them. Waiting for them was a road block of several patrol cars and a all white SUV with front end damage. Cody had not hesitated, peeling the tires through a U-turn and heading out of town, police in pursuit.
It had taken some time, but they escaped the police pursuit and made their way to the B&B after night had fallen. There they were able to find out that the story had been twisted. The news report claimed A group of Children had attacked locals trying to fend off a weirdwolf pack migrating near town. While most of the group were unidentified, one had been severely injured and was in hospital under police guard. Agents from CFI had arrived in town to assist locals authorities deal with the two other individuals still on the loose though with no description available because both attackers were shapeshifters, there was no immediate direction to pursue them. On another, supposedly unrelated story, Salmon PD veteran officer Kendle had been in a serious car crash and at the moment it was unclear whether he would survive his injuries.
While it was clearly a cover up, it was decided that with CFI already involved, the best thing to do was to get out of town. Under the advice of the owner of the B&B, John booked a cottage for them m in Wyoming outside a town called Riverside about a days drive away. After spending the night, an argument woke the house between Michael and Cody when Cody caught Michael leaving with a plan to free Maggie before CFI took her away. It was finally settled when John stepped in and agreed to help Michael left, offering that Maggie could be taken where she would be safe among his family and then they would catch up with the others in Riverside
The threesome set out that evening and arrived in Riverside just after dawn the next day after a couple of detours just to be safe due to meeting patrol cars on the road. The place John had arranged, Riverside Retreats, was a couple miles outside of town, but seemed like the middle of nowheres. What John had left out was he had paid up for the week when he booked it. After arriving, a check of news headlines found a report that a CFI spokesperson told the media that they had been expanding their efforts, but at this point they had few leads. Police had also stopped looking for the Mustang after Cody had “borrowed” a Colorado plate and swapped it with his from New York. By the third day of laying low however, cabin fever was starting to set in.
