Re: OOC (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)
In reply to Meiko Levina (msg # 938):
Beyond Macross II, no, only thing you can do is use Skethley's Stats on the Macross-verse stuff for the stuff after SDF Macross (in terms of media release date)
So, here's the interesting/fun thing that I've noticed as Macross progresses. (from my exhaustive research, that is to say, my analysis of others exhaustive research):
Caveat, this analysis is based on straight Macross, taking into effect it's internal lore and tech, such as Energy Conversion Armor, engines, weapons, AI, cloning, etc. etc. This also precludes any kind of game balancing mechanic.
So, first I'll touch on cloning. Mass cloning was used to repopulate humanity after the Zentraedi Holocaust. Cloning continued in earnest all the way up until 2030 when it was finally discontinued. Now, to use real world terms to illustrate the point, where the humans that survived the Holocaust could be termed the 'Greatest Generation' the majority of those that were cloned could be considered 'Millennial's' (Complete with the duality of confidence/tolerance vs. narcissism/entitlement) This is why in Macross most if not all of the conflicts are human on human. Terrorist groups, splinter factions, and all of that good stuff, because all the new 'people' have no sense of what their progenitors went thru and are well, whiny little prigs that have their own idea on how things should be done. Hence the formation of Liberation Leagues, and other such constructs, as humanity does what it does best, fight over stupid things.
Well, why aren't the Zentraedi et al the big bug-a-boo? There are literally millions of them still out there.
True, there are, and but for the few splinter factions, like Vinderance, Struggle, that use human technology, and have created their own... (I.e.; Struggle created and fielded the Variable Glaug, which of all things were designed to be used by macro sized Zentraedi 'child' soldiers.) ...the majority of them are Rogue Fleet Zentraedi and are, easily handled.
Easily handled? How do you Easily handle a Zentreadi?
Carefully, or, in this case, with overwhelming technological superiority. Now we need to talk about the tech aspect. Macross power levels are stupid high. Case in point, the puniest weapon OUR characters use on a VF-1 is the head laser, which has a rated 5MW (Megawatt) output. To put that in perspective, that's 5 times as powerful as the USAF's 1MW ABL (Air Borne Laser).
Weapons only get more powerful from there. In the VF-4G you start seeing internally mounted Heavy Quantum Beam Cannons. By the time Macross Delta rolls around you have gun pods that literally siphon heavy quanta (ammunition) direct from fold space with an unlimited amount of ammo so long as power is provided to the weapon! And lets not even start talking about MDE (Micro Dimension Eater) weaponry!
As for armor, the ECW/SWAG armor derives it's protective quality by how much power can be shunted to it by the engines. As engines get more powerful so does the armor. With the later advent of the Fold Wave System, and Fold Reheat System, engines take a literal quantum leap in power output.
Zentraedi are still competitive against human mecha for a bit, but only when fielding 'elite units' such as the Renegade Power Armor vs the VF-11 against newbie pilots. (as seen in the beginning of Macross Plus) In 2040 you have the fielding of the VF-19 and VF-22, both VF-s are eventually selected to be put into use, the VF-19 into Fleet service, and the VF-22, with it's BDI (Brain Direct Interface) system, is handed over to NUNS SOF. Both platforms are beastly, literally designed to penetrate planetary defense networks and perform decapitation strikes on wayward colonial, or rebel, leadership.
By the time of Macross 7 (2045-2046) your garden variety Zent threat forces are relegated to mook status, they are just that outmatched by the colony mecha of the day (which is disgusting because all colony mecha are in effect export models of their Federal (with all the bells and whistles) counterparts.)
That is why the near-peer enemy that the M7 fleet faces are Varutan (which are Zentraedi and Humans from the Macross 5 fleet, brainwashed by the Protodelvin) and the variant VF-s they create to bring about their one big old galactic spirita farm. This isn't even counting the Protodelvin themselves.
Macross Frontier pits PMC mecha, (Not even Federal!) Against giant space bats (Vajra), and by the end of that conflict the Vajra are getting torn to shreds by MDE munitions. Think Vortex cannon from WH40K. Armor literally has no defense against an MDE round because the round is not acting against the kinetic of thermal damage resistance of armor, it's intense gravity is simply shredding the armor apart at the atomic level and sucking the resulting mass out of reality.
In Delta, what you witness is essentially a colonial tiff (that admittedly gets a bit out of hand, once its learned that Windemere wants to mind-slave the galaxy, and oh shit, might actually have the means to do it.) Also, consider this, the VF-31, isn't even a top of the line fighters, it's a 5th Gen Local build designed with off the shelf parts in an effort to spur the Bersinger Clusters economy, because they are so far off the beaten path (space boonies) that, as one person put it, on your way there ,you hear banjo's as soon as you enter fold space.
TLDR Version:
So, in short, within 10-20 short years only the most 'leet Zentraedi mecha (or massive numbers of lesser mecha) stand a chance, and after 2040 they are essentially a joke. Leaving Space Devils (Protodelvin) Space Bats (Vajra) and ourselves, as the only threats to humanity. So with that said, I can easily see version(s) of the events seen in The Expanse or Game of Thrones or similar shows on a galactic level (or at least where humanity has ventured) playing out. All with the Big Nasty, the NUNF with their mecha that are at least twice as disgusting in terms of power level then anything allowed to be built or purchased by a colony.
pant pant pant....wow! Sorry.
