Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

In reply to Ravnar (msg # 29):

"He specializes in armaments of all sorts for adventuring types. The city is a last stop between civilization and the Haunted lands, perfect to stock up before you dive in. So the hope is that father gets a better chance for his wares to sell themselves thanks to word of mouth. Truly earn the life of comfort he deserves."

I suspect we're gonna do it anyway, but is there any chance this could count as a quest in the name of Justice?

In that the world is unjust to not give the man the riches he has earned?
I think I can see the rational.

*Remembers idea of siding with play for fiction*

Out of curiosity, as long as we're chatting ooc... has anything in the DW RESOURCES thread been useful to you so far?

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

I've been looking at the bestiary stuff. It gives an idea. I think I need to use the forums to get what others make of move an instinct and how to put that through the GM flow chart.

Will the band go to peruse the wares seen? Find stalls besides? Bids their time patiently? Or something else entirely?

Ravnar mostly doesn't want the group to get distracted-- doesn't want them to lose sight of the captain NOR Zand on the way to get the errand completed...

Or am I misunderstanding...?

Nope, your on the ball. Just was being sure not to actively put you on the rail too much.

If that is Ravnar's way, that is nice to know for the post.

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

This might be a daft thing to ask.
But what sort of rating should I try to keep content at?
I realise I never asked on anything to avoid having, um "on screen". Thought to ask well in advance.

I mainly ask as I already know the audience when it comes to my Skype game. I know what to avoid with them. Mainly that one of them is a murderhobo

I'm not easily shocked... but I suppose shoot for an average of somewhere between PG-13 and R?

In the UK... I suppose between 15 and 18, as I understand it based on what I looked up a minute ago?

Yup. I thought it was that realm but I didn't want to assume and have an oops we have to stumble through.

You know what they say about assume after all...

The adventure started in the morning, but I think it's about time to ask the question...

...What phase is the moon currently in?

Crescent moon, on the way to no moon.

A few days away.

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

Before we use the city move, have any thoughts on it?

I think I need to adjust the being there and on time into the same choice bullet point. Thoughts?

(CONTEXT - Been reading "Understanding Dungeon World" PDF, and been thinking how that custom move could do with removing no brainer elements.)

Mm, I liked that there was always one thing that the player had to choose to give up, no matter what, but you're probably right, really. The player is usually going to forego an unknown "good thing" in order to avoid something unfortunate finding one...

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

Thus it's the no brainer. I'm sure I can think of another way for it to be rendered. It is a "setting basic" move, if there is nothing unique like the city of thieves or delights will have.

Always avoid unknown bad thing.  I will have to see how to better render the hard choice somehow...

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

For now, I think I'll go with it like this to be a little cleaner at least. Still need to think on improvements in the future.

City Sprawling: When you are traversing from one part of a city to another, Fate may decide to throw something unexpected at you. When travelling between sizable stretches of the city, roll +Wis. On 10+ Choose 2, on 7-9, choose 1.

--You arrive where and when you mean to.
--You find something fortunate besides your destination.
--Something unfortunate Doesn't find you.

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

But... should I go use this move now?

The reasons I ask are:

--there's not the same pressure to be on time now

--we have a guide now (so whose wis bonus would apply?)

--It's a big tower, how hard will it be to get there exactly?

Fair enough, you can get to it just fine. I'll think and make a post of you being there.

I think a roll for this post could do, as there are several people behind you and she might start to catch on to something being off.
Call it a "Defy Danger" via Cha unless you can propose another means.

Re: OOC Thread for DW - Land of Fate

Ta man.

Do feel free to fit in some other rolls besides the immediate addressing ones too. You know like Spout Lore and Discern Realities. Gives either material or exp. All good :)

I'm just hoping my mix of improv and ideas work bettering in post style. (Still need to read the fronts section in Dungeon World rules)
