"Fluffy, guard our backs!" Do'Jherak commands, then he thrusts his spear once more at the wounded spider.

Re: A Mess In Marbleton

Do'Jherak again stabs into the climbing spider. It oozes some more nasty fluid, but it keeps attacking Faelar. Fluffy coils up and stares out at the webs.

Gorok lands a hefty blow on the spider.

Siirist successfully casts Blur on Faelar.

Faelar shoots at the spider again, and this time it stays down. The remaining two spiders attempt to bite Faelar. One misses, but the one oozing all over the place manages to still attempt a bite regardless.

Retreating and dodging yet again, Faelar shoots at spider number 4 while glaring at #5. "I thought that I already killed you!"

not sure if I have the room to retreat, but I would have made the roll anyways... by a margin of 0. 5 damage imp, -1 defense penalty

The Wizard floats over next to the cleric and begins to talk about the webs seemingly forgetting that there is still a fight going on.

"So how flammable do you think these webs are anyways? How much fire will it take to clear them out?"

Re: A Mess In Marbleton

Do'Jherak stabs the spider again, and finally it stops moving.

Gorok lands another good hit on the spider. It keeps twitching though in its unconscious state.

Siirist talks.

Faelar misses the spider, but forces it to dodge right into the path of a lovely morningstar.

Combat Modifiers:
  • Bad Footing on stairs (-2 to hit, -1 to defend, +1 movement point/hex)

Good job! Your first combat is now over, and no one even got hurt!

Both Do'Jherak and Faelar notice something beneath the webs where Siirist burned them, but it is hard to tell exactly what it is.

Faelar draws one last arrow and stabs the unconscious spider a few times until he is sure that it is dead. He then goes to find and salvage a few arrows.

“They don’t turn red when I smash them,” said Gorok. “I don’t like it.”

He looked closer at the webs.

“So, best way to get rid of this stuff? Or is it valuable?”

"This one sees something in the webbing down there." Do'Jherak says, "Do you have a spell to retrieve it? If not I could try moving it with my spear. It seems that may summon more spiders, but the stairwell is a decent choke point so perhaps that is best?"

Re: A Mess In Marbleton

Faelar succeeds in finding half of his arrows.

Siirist casts a spell, but the object is too heavy for the spell to work on the whole thing. Instead, rising up from the maze of webs you all can see what looks distinctly like a giant rat tail. (Yes, that includes Gorok for once.)

"I don't think that there are any rats here. I'm heading up to renegotiate the terms of our employment. Gorok, grab one of the spiders. I'll need it." Without waiting for the others he headed up and knocked on the door. "LEE! OPEN UP! WE NEED TO COME OUT!"

It takes Lee about 10 seconds to unbar the door and let a glimmer of light down into the cellar. She asks, "Did one of you die? There is no way you cleared that entire cellar in that amount of time."

She lets anyone out that wants out, but then immediately bars the door again.

"we're not done yet, but the wizard needed to time to prepare, and we need to give you an update. Also there are giant spiders down there. He motioned at the one Gorok was carrying. "Now the terms of our engagement was to kill rats and you specified that we are being paid per rat. What are you offering per spider? We don't work for free"

Lee is difficult to read, but she does not look incredibly happy. She responds with, "I suppose giant spiders could definitely make scratching noises as well. There is no way they would get along with giant rats though. So I am happy to pay you for spider heads if that is what is in the cellar instead, but then I am not paying you for rats."

"Fine, We will let you know which one we want to get paid for when the job is done. Oh, and if we choose spiders, the price is 24 coin per head, they are much more difficult to kill. As agreed before, the total paid will not exceed 1 gold. Come Gorok lets go back."

"That is what you came up to talk about? You adventurers sure do like wasting time." Lee says. "I agree to your price, but do try to show some professionalism this time and complete the job. I am paying you to clear out that cellar entirely, and I want to see that it is completely empty!"

She again moves the bar out of the way to let you back into the cellar.

Re: A Mess In Marbleton

Nothing attacks you in the time it takes Siirist to recharge. Fluffy does not seem agitated either, and there is no sound of scratching.

If you would like to try to improvise a torch from the dead spider bits and webs, roll Scrounging. That will help clear the webs faster. Otherwise Siirist will probably have to rest several times to recover energy. Are you guys staying in a group as you clear the room, or spreading out?

"Professionalism?" muttered the scout as he headed down the stairs. "She's going to lecture me about professionalism? Pompous fool. Should of made her come down here and clear the room herself. Professionalism, Ha!" He walked around looking at the situation, and then gathered a wad of spider silk, a freshly killed spider's leg, and some fat from a rat. "Light it up Siirist, I'll help burn a path,"

Re: A Mess In Marbleton

The Wizard ignites Faelars torch and then sets about looking for the materials for his own but can't seem to find any of the 39 remaining spider legs or webbing anywhere in the 5 yards of visible space...

Instead he got distracted looking over the spiders and figuring our where the venom sack is in the spiders. "You'll want to cut right there, the sack is about 5 inches below the surface my friend."

Re: A Mess In Marbleton

Do'Jherak uses an improvised scalpel from a broken bottle, despite the shoddy tool he is actually able to remove a venom sac intact, "Whether we sell it as is or use it on our weapons, this one is pleased with the salvage."

He carefully wraps the sac so it will be protected from breakage, then gives it to Gorok, "Strong friend, please do us the favor of carrying this for me."

"Let us like no trace of these foul beasts here. Plus, you never know what valuables might lurk beneath." then he makes an improvised torch like Faelar's, stopping the elf to light it, to help him clear the room of all the webs.
