Re: Group 0 OOC thread...

Hello everyone.  I have been playing Star Frontiers since the early 80's.  It was my first science fiction game system which I still enjoy.

I've created a human with the psychosocial PSA and beam weapons.

COMMENTS

Std Equip Pack
The Standard Equipment Pack contains many useful items but dose not include any weapons other then a single doze grenade. A Standard Equipment Pack costs 150 Credits,[1] and only weighs 1kg.

This pack contains the following:
1 Chronocom
1 pair of Coveralls
1 Doze Grenade
1 First Aid Pack, with the following:
Spray Bandage (Plastiflesh) — 1 can of spray which closes up wounds and heals burns
Antiseptic Spray — 1 can of spray to clean and disinfect a skin area
Spray Hypodermic (Spray Hypo) — syringe used to give shots without a needle
1 dose of Stimdose — to revive unconscious individuals
1 dose of Staydose — to sustain a dying person for 20 hours
ID Card
1 Pocket Tool
1 package of Survival Rations (enough food for 1 person for five days)
Most of the items of the Standard Equipment Pack are included in Emergency Survival Packs.

Re: Group 0 OOC thread...

Roger,

Now that you can see Group 1 (the game threads) you'll see that the lifeboat you arrived in had several weapons on board. The only way way to introduce you is for us all to suspend our disbelief and assume you've been along the whole time. Please feel free to read the, "Heading for S'Kalb 1," thread and choose your weapons from there.

Welcome Roger!

We have laser rifles, laser pistols, sonic stunners, an electric sword, a normal sword, and 10 powerclips.

For grenades, we have 1 frag, 1 incendiary, 2 poison.

Re: Group 0 OOC thread...

We buried that stuff in a weapon cache near the crash site, you know, in case we had to fall back to our crashed life pod to re-arm.  That's just a safe precaution in case things go awfully bad for you but you at least are able to run away.  Who knows?  We could have been captured, and then escaped.  It always happens in the movies.  So I wonder why roleplayers act like it's the end of the world when they get captured in-game.

Yeah, when I used to run Star Frontiers I would tweak the rules a little bit to make skill in weapons a little more effective.

Since play by post is always slower than face to face, I will be awarding a good chunk of experience to spend at various checkpoints, if you will.

Combat at lower levels starting out with only [1] skill level is tough unless your shooting full-auto or careful aiming every shot.

Chunks of XP is good...

At low levels it helps to put out opponents who have feeble vitality scores, and give up easily.  A few good punches to the face should be enough to make them give up.

Re: Group 0 OOC thread...

Well yeah, it helps when the players roll good stats.  That way they can have a higher Strength/Vitality than the other guy.  Then all odds being the same, they can outlast the other guy in a fist fight.

It also helps to put the odds heavily in the players' favor, as in 4 players against 1.

It kind of makes me want to finish up my rules adaptations to set a game in the Borderlands Universe using the Star Frontiers rules.  I wonder how easy it is for people to get the Star Frontiers rules these days?

WotC sells them on DriveThruRPG.com and told everyone who might have been allowed to distribute them to cease and desist.

I still ave all of my stuff from the 80's.  I was able to download some stuff before WOTC re-released the SF rules and books.

WotC just has to milk everything they got ownership of from TSR, don't they?  Don't they make enough money selling Magic the Gathering and all the new D&D books?  I can tolerate them keeping the game stores afloat by selling Magic.  But can't they let just one thing slide into public domain?

Agreed.  It's not like they released a new version of Star Frontiers.  I won't lie, I usually buy the PDF's for ease of storage, space, price, and ease of use on my computer or table that I can take anywhere.  They kill on Magic (always have) and I'm a 5E fan myself and have purchased their books and they're making a killing there too.

I'm disappointed that they pulled the Star Frontiersman & Frontier Explorer.  There was a lot of great material in those issues.  You can still find Frontier Explorer but, Star Frontiersman is no more.  I was lucky enough to download before WoTC put the kabosh on materials, blah, blah, blah.

Can we use materials from those resources since I brought it up?

Re: Group 0 OOC thread...

Star Frontiersman isn't dead. I have some info from Star Frontiersman that I will use as we go - they're all still here, minus the copyrighted WotC material:

http://www.starfrontiersman.com/magazines.php

If you have a suggestion, I'll listen, but aside from the expanded height, weight, and age tables, and a few select pieces of equipment, there's just too much to try and use in one game.

Issue #1 p. 1-4
   "  #2 p. 14-16
   "  #3 p. 2-4
   "  #4 p. 12-19
   "  #5 p. 15-20

I'll stop there, I don't want to go crazy but that's a bulk of the stuff without going through everyone of the issues.  Covered the issues and the page numbers with stuff for you to think about.

I can go specific if you would like however, you're the boss.
