Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

Silviene Felis:
just based off names I vote for Mongoose

Heh, I hope the ship-class fits the name then!

Trying to think of the... sillier (?) looking designs that would fit Mongoose.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

Yeah, I was looking at starship creation and I love the set up process. We have the potential at some awesome ship designs.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

Yes, the captain convinced me it should be 2378... after the Borg invasion, after the Dominion war.

I've tentatively said the Audacious is a Galaxy-class ship.

The Mongoose is an Oberth-class ship (like the Pegasus).

The Starwolf is a Steamrunner-class ship.

But the final decision is still up in the air.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

looks like the book only has one of those  three in the starship generation system.

I would love to go with the Galaxy Class ship.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

If it's a five year mission, I think the Galaxy is best suited. We will be far from home, away from resources, and basically independent. The bigger the better.

In reply to Anther De'Valla (msg # 51):

A Galaxy class ship has alot of civilian lives on board. I guess it would depend on the kind of mission we are being sent on.

Well, I do have the Command Division book and it has the stats on the Oberth, Steamrunner, and several others if we want to keep options open. :)

One ship in the book, that could be considered I feel is the Nebula Class which has the Mission Pod on the Rollbar. This would make for a very versatile ship which would be perfect for the Shackleton Expanse...

The Command book has several Conn and Command focused talents as well. The Beta Quadrant book also has several other PC-style races....

Just putting that out there. :)

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

Yes the Galaxy class has civilians on it, but that's even more reason to do it. It's a five year mission. Would you be willing to go without seeing your family for five years? With a Galaxy class, you could take families with you. Allowing you to actually have more people willing to go on the journey. Without it you will have a lot of people wanting off within a year or so. Unless they are singles, in which you will have a bunch of children by the end of five years. Look at Voyager for reference.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

If we do take the Galaxy-class, would we fill it up with NPC civilians?  If so, should we all create some family or friends to help fill out the roster of crew and civilians?

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

The way Star Trek Adventurers works crew can be created and used by various players if needed. But you don't get to play yourself during the same scene.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

Well, I was tentatively going with a 5-year mission, as opposed to an 'ongoing mission' because the ship would be heading into the unknown. The Galaxy-class ship would better support that, but I wasn't thinking of this game as being about a ship named Enterprise.

The Mongoose could be a Nebula-class ship rather than an Oberth-class ship.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

I like the idea of a 5 year mission, and i wouldnt have run it as the enterprise either. not every game needs to be about the flagship. ds9 and the defiant shows us that.

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

I like the idea of the Nebula-Class Mongoose.

And, it could be a 5-year mission, just happen to be exploring for months at a time and returning to Narendra Station here and there to visit family, etc...

Re: Open Hailing Frequencies (OOCs)

If we wind up going with the Nebula-class and crewing the Mongoose, I'd have a sound(er) segue for Quinn to be transferred there, as her last 2 years of Starfleet service were on the Nebula-class USS New York. Huzzah!

The Command Division book doesn't seem to be available as a PDF yet. It looks like we're going with the Nebula-class Mongoose. So, could you provide the stats for it?

There will still be civilians and families on board.

I guess it will be a 5-year mission on the books, but it can always be altered by circumstances.

Out of curiosity, what other Beta Quadrant species are in the book?

Yeah right now it looks like you have to spend the 108 for the set and you get em as they come out. I have not been able to find the PDFs in any other manner yet as much as I would like to read them over.

Klingon - TNG
