Welcome all. Please work on character sheets and uploading them and letting me know when they are ready just so I can view it too.

Obviously I will have more posts to make concerning the start, organization and layout of this game.

But as you can see, there is a notice with a lot of missions. You won't have any details on it until you have selected the mission. The way the guild handles jobs isn't blindly sending you in, so they will provide certain supplies if needed.

I've started to post some new threads to intro you to the guild and where we will start.

Obviously, as this is a guild, you can take up any job. The intent of this game is to be able to have any number of players in it and hopefully any number of jobs going on at once.

I just ask at first for a few quests we just keep everyone together. To get off and running in an orderly fashion.

If your sheet is 100% done and iv e seen it, you can start posting in Hunnters Lodge Salina.

Once everyone is in, you can discuss in game any of the listed quests you might want to start on, but you can only pick one to do, so come to consensus.

You aren't members yet, so this is your trial.

I thought I'd mention (in case it isn't obvious) that the only reason we don't have anyone keen to be a 'leader' is because we don't have a single frontline character in the party, and I suspect everyone is a bit sheepish about 'leading' by telling another backliner to be first through a door. lol :)

It isn't written anywhere, though it should be obvious to you. We don't have a frontliner, which means your 'leader', at least the one you described in the IC thread, would be ordering someone else who is not a frontliner, not armoured, not strong, not armed, not keen or any combination of the above through a closed door into who knows what.

To use a military analogy as you seem comfortable with it, it's like the head of the unit sending the medic, the radio guy, the sniper, or perhaps even the accompanying CNN journalist through the door first when they are expecting enemy soldiers to be ready to belt them. I can't speak for others, but I'm not particularly keen to be telling people as leader to perform a role they are totally unsuited to. I am thinking you should be equally as unkeen to implement a leader, as - looking around the rest of us - the accompanying journalist most likely to be ordered to open and go through the door first would be you ;)

Making the dude who goes through the door every time the 'leader' expunges everyone else from responsibility for the unending sequence of asswhippings he's going to get :)

well that is news to me...  I had thought that Jinx was a frontliner even though he has no armour, weapon or strength to speak of. He has shown himself keen enough to take the battle to the enemy.  In any case I was arguing for my character not to be leader. With things the way they appear to be, I wonder if a leader would be of any use?

Also just for reference, if you want healing during a fight don't put yourselves in a position where Pipiwar can't get to you without getting hit herself. She's not built for combat, so she won't be healing anybody from a threatened square.

As for the 800lb chest, you have a journey back to the guild hall so you cant just drag it. Unless you have some other method, it will be left behind. You can take handfulls of coin from it if you wish, but even then you'll start to be weighted down.

Digging through the chest a little. You see there is a variety of coins. Gold, silver, bronze. You cant tell how many gold pieces there are. But there seems to be more silver than gold. (Like a coin jar, trying to pick out quarters when the jar is full of dimes and nickles. You CAN do it. But its laborious. )

Overall, the content of the chest is worth 5k. But unless you spend a few hours separating the coins, you'll just be grabbing a mix of coin and value.

Works out that each person grabbing one 10ln sack of coin values at 800, leaves 200 left. So ysar took it and fled.

DM, before we ambush some bugbears could we please find out who we have in the party? At the moment only two people posting, and while I think a druid and a cleric could give it the good old college try against maybe two bugbears, it could get hairy, and we really should be having the whole team to work with.

If you are open to the idea, I am happy to draw up a second character to fill out the ranks a bit. Something with a bit of biff about it. He would be a background fellow who wouldn't RP much, but it would allow the game to move forward with at least THREE in the party, as it's been enjoyable to date and it would be a shame to have it collapse when I could just roll a another up :)

What do you think?

950gp each for De Van Kirby, Gormok, Vain and Thock, for showing up.

The GM can tell me off if I am wrong or pocking my noise in where not wanted but I think you find in standard rules.

That magic value of your +2 is +2 bonus = 8,000gp
To add "flaming" you going to increase your bonus to +3
+3 bonus is 18,000gp so you need 10,000 gp.

But hay what do I know I just an elf that like use sword and shield...

Re: OOC

As for critical hits (and misses) refer to the DM Rules Notice.

Critical strikes hit and deal critical damage. No need to confirm.

The damage they deal is the weapon damage at Max, and then you will your normal damage.

Example.
De Van rolled a natural 20. Automatically confirmed. No secondary roll
His damage is 1d8+4.
So the critical damage is 8. And then you roll like you normally would. This case the result was 7. So 15 total damage.

(Critical damage doesn't multiply any bonuses, just the weapon damage, so it wouldn't have been the 14)

Re: OOC

Just a heads-up to everyone as there are several new players in the group. Because the DM keeps damage sustained to PCs a secret, it's almost impossible for me to know whether you need healing or not from turn to turn. So, if you feel you need to be healed, you will have to let me know in character, and you will have to give me some idea of just how badly injured you are. I can't rely on the text provided as to how badly damaged everybody is as it doesn't quantify the level of injury.

I have a lot of healing, both spells for in-combat healing and the wand for out-of-combat healing, but due to the secrecy of hit points the onus is on you guys to let me know who needs it, and I'll be happy to give you some. Just don't overstate your injury, I don't want to overheal if it can be helped :)

I would suggest that we keep a running total of what the sell-cost of items might be, just so that we can balance the needs of the equipment to keep the party strong with the need for spellcasters to spend money on updating their spellbooks, buying components, healing wands, etc.

Basically, each party member should have an equal share of the group treasure, because we all benefit from everyone being as strong as possible.

Re: OOC

That's not a good idea. I'm happy to sell up everything in the 'loot' thread that isn't claimed and equally distribute it. But I'm not keen, for example, to leave Kirby out of the next five adventures worth of sell-up just because he took a single great item this time. He should get a share of the sell-up as well.

If we did it your way, I promise you that there will be times when people will forego items that they might have taken just so they don't get frozen out of your method of distribution, and that's just bad for the party. It happens all the time under that method whether we wish it weren't so or not.

Given that the loot has been sitting there for more than 6 months, I think we're pretty safe from those adventurer-filth that just grab at anything they can so they can just.....have more.....:)

Having said that, there's a lot of miscellaneous loot in the loot thread now, I'm happy to vote to sell it all up and distribute equally if everyone else is :). Can't sell it to the Guild, but we could probably sell it elsewhere for something :)

Re: OOC

TL;DR from below - it's a catch 22 either way, but after I look through the items again I'm definitely down for selling them. I want a Monk's Belt, a rod of Quicken Spell, and all of that stuff needs to be "wildshapeable" or "polymorphable" in a level or 2. So... pricey.

Longer version:

Look at it this way.

What do we do if we find a book that grants a permanent +4 to Con and it can only be used once?

We all need Con.

Should Kirby, in this example, have an equal share of an average of 10k GP worth of loot if he takes the 150K GP item now?

We won't be able to sell it for 150K, and none of us has 150K now to buy it. So, having to put off getting items in the future to get a boss item now is a choice we all can make.

But if Kirby gets that item, uses it, and STILL gets a cut of the next 10K job... that's pretty unfair to say... you, because you have upkeep costs for wands, potions, or me, because I have to spend money on spell components, spells, writing scrolls, etc.

It's tough either way really - but there's no guarantee that we will go on the next mission together. Or that a player won't drop out after claiming a bunch of great items that other people could really use, etc.

I mean, there really is plenty of treasure to go around, on top of the guild fees. But in my case, I have to really save up for anything that's going to really help my character. I've got like 5K saved up at this point because I can't afford the stuff I really need, like a monk's belt, gloves of dexterity, rods of quicken spell, and of course all the stuff that will allow it to change shape with me as needed.

Re: OOC

In your +4 CON book example (standing order for 6 of those please DM!), not everybody needs CON the same. If everybody put their hands up for it, I would be disappointed in some of the players for being greedy putting their hands up for something that other people need more. Everyone knows that CON is better placed in the hands of people that get hit a lot, not those who hide behind them (like me!) trying never to get hit. I would let one of the "always frontliners" take it, AND give them a share of the gold later so they can top up on healing potions and buff potions, boots of wonderful things etc, something which Kirby could NEVER do if your plan was followed.

If you are saving gold because there's nothing under 5k that you want, then that's okay, it's your character. Personally I could think of several things worth getting for you, but you are placing as a personal priority some very expensive items ahead of ANY expenditure on your part. No dramas there either, but you are suggesting a treasure distribution method whose sole purpose is to increase your personal wealth faster. Just let it happen, don't begrudge people who take one-off big items a few gold to top up their consumables. Else, you might find that they stand aside and let you defend yourself with your burgeoning belt pouch ;)

I don't have a great answer for you regarding the bit about players leaving the game along with their 100k worth of items they have received from the kitty. I am hopeful that the DM might have a solution to that one.

P.S. If you need money for a whiz-bang item, and you have been generous with your preference of treasure distribution, you might find that others in the Guild who also have lots of money and nothing to spend it on might lend you some to get you to your big item. But generosities like that typically only accrue to those who are themselves generous of spirit ;)

I think you messed up on your players GM. Kinby was supposed to be in front of me so I can use range. Vain and Thock were in the West side of the hall. Pipiway went to the doorway so she can keep an eye on the stairs and birahu and rohan went to the top of the south passage to keep an eye down there...

That way we had the two Paladins in the front, the range as back-up; then the mages in the middle to provide spell power towards either side or deal with the south and the cleric near Thock and Vain, but within reach of the spell casters.

Wishing everyone a happy new year.

For those Mages in our group, or for anyone actually. You might want to save up for a Ring of Sustenance. The fact of not needing to eat and only needing 2 hours of sleep a night is nice and for spell casters, you act as though you have rested 8 full hours and can rememorize spells. This is only usable once a day though.

cost is 2500gp. of course it will be modified by our GM to match current prices in the guild. Definitely a good item to have.

for those without darkvision, at 120 feet it would just look like the faintest of glows. The light source is in a different room so its not coming down the hallways, its coming into the hallway only at that one point and its dim there as well. you aren't seeing the light source, just the outer dim lighting it is shedding

so it would look like just a soft glow with no definition of shadows, especially in a cavern with odd shaped walls

it will get worse before getting better, but the issue is that like anything, a few bad apples ruin the harvest. Can't say all law enforcement is corrupt or racist, just like all protestors aren't violent or criminal. It is a lose, lose situation. Bound to spiral out of control eventually.

Re: OOC

if GM wants to check math...

+2 bow would be 8400gp and 8 days to enchant.

(magic weapon is bonus squared x 2000gp) (2x2x2000) cost to make medium magic items (over 8K) is 5% for 400gp. Time needed is 1 day per 1000gp value so 8 days.

Re: OOC

As a fan of letting the party do whatever they want to do, and just adjudicating, I can easily create a list and find info on how to create your own shop.

Ex.
Creating your own shop comes in Phases

Planning. First you need to determine the kind of store you'ld like to own and operate. This comes with information on how much a shop space would cost to buy and furnish to start, or if you need a custom shop built.

Building. Second, constructing the shop and the initial wares for sale. Going in debt and taking out loans in order to build a catalog so when you open you have items to sell.

Operating. Finally; staffing, security, advertising, services, rent and material purchasing.

Cost to Build a New Building, buying into a Major City pre-existing building
Alchemist - 10,000
Artifacer - 8,000
Baker - 5,000
Barber - 6,000
Blacksmith - 8,000
Brewery - 5,000
Butcher - 4,000
Carpenter - 5,000
Cobbler - 5,000
Enchanter - 15,000
Fletcher - 6,000
General Store - 5,000
Grocer - 4,000
Healer - 7,000
herbalist - 5,000
Jeweler - 12,000
Library - 15,000
Stables - 8,000
Tailor - 6,000
Tavern - 10,000

Well I know I spent some of the coin on items. The 15k is just for the building itself. We would still need to stock it with items. Would probably have "utilities" to pay for on a monthly basis. Have to pay for security for while we are away adventuring. The Guild will do what they can to make sure we stay indebted to them for as long as they can.

Now granted we could set up the magic shop with added security via spells, golems, traps, etc.

Re: OOC

real issue is that we will need to get items and make items in order to sell. Making items will cost XP and mats to donate and only certain people can do that. We could make items and then the Wizard/Sorcerer can enchant them, but we need people who are skilled laborers.

As I have the profession of herbalism I can at least bring money in through herbs and using that and poison craft, make remedies or poisons. I also can craft weapons, so there is that. Maybe eventually make a forge/herbalist shop for me once we get the other up and running. Then we get other people who are skilled with armor craft, blacksmith, and maybe fletcher. Use those with crafts to furnish the items, the enchanters to enhance, and then sell for profit.

Re: OOC

So...
Whose still here? I'm not sure what I wanna do for a campaign yet but I wanna run a game on here again to get some of my ideas out that I can't in my live games.

You can play as these characters or if there's something new. I haven't really formed my thoughts on what to do for a main story yet

Busy life busy work but crazy overtime has stopped fir now. And my live d&d games have been feeding the itch but there's plenty of side ideas I've written to get out.

Re: OOC

The good thing about how this game was set up was, there is the over arching story. But each mission is self contained.

So luckily we have the info for where you are currently (searching for giants causing issues)

We can pick up from there. Or just scrap it and go back to the lodge and pick a different mission to be fresh

Re: OOC

Birahu is NOT an elf. If it had been 50 years, he'd be retired.

Re: OOC

I thought he was retired and set up home in an inn.  Or is that somewhere else in the multiverse?

Am I getting an Artic feel from you?  It hard to see you through the misty covered tree and hills...

Re: OOC

He'd be a sage. Not sure what he was, my biography said 8th level wizard, my sheet says 7th level.

To just give you a heads up, my Windows computer crashed and is being rebuilt, I'm on a Linux machine now, but it has been sketchy too, it didn't want to boot yesterday so now I just let it sleep instead of turning it off.

Re: OOC

I would probably be in the same boat being a Fetchling. They live about as long as a half-elf. So he probably would have had to retire himself.

Re: OOC

So there is a question of how long we have been away from the Lodge... I am assuming we would be able to progress our character during this down time, or maybe try to gain more funds. Those of us who have skills that warrant a profession (Craft or Profession Skill), then I could see us using that skill to either make money during this downtime or gather materials.

For instance, I have both Profession Herbalism and Craft Poison, add in my knowledges of Flora and Nature, I could use my skills to further my funds from making poisons, antitoxins, being used as a subject matter expert for those who were poisoned, etc. Thoughts?
