Creeped out by the shadowed blackness Myra keeps a watchful eye in that direction only changing her focus to take aim at the nearest enemy.

Sneak Attack with Short bow/w advantage at the closest enemy.
19:10, Today: Myra Highbrow rolled 24 using 2d20+6, dropping the lowest dice only.  Sneak Attack roll/w advantage.

Banish sees through his muti-faceted spider eyes and begins to worry they may sson be over-run.
He continues his assault hoping to reduce the number of enemies.


ACTION: attack zombie left standing. Hit AC 15 for 6 points of damage.

Bhelmyr will have his axe attack the last zombie (as far as he knows) on its way toward the Tiefling's location. Then he will cast Magic Missile at the Tiefling while maintaining his own position (though he will fly higher if it seems the Ogre Zombie can reach him.)

Action Cast Magic Missile at Nija, for 12 force damage.
Bonus: Spectral axe attacks z1, hits AC12 for 10 force damage, then moves 25' west.

20:23, Today: Bhelmyr Godstouched rolled 12 using 3d4+3.  Magic Missile combined damage.

Zombie 1 lifts his rotting arms high into the air and attempts to smash Bandish wolf-spider into the ground, like a bug !
DM rolled 19 using 1d20+3.  zombie attack
DM rolled 7 using 1d6+1.  zombie damage

The zombie slams into Bandish wolf-spider, smashing spider brains onto the soft earth.
Bandish instantly reverts back to his human form, with a terrible headache !
(Bandish spider took 2 damage and human-form took 5 damage.)

Matrim recklessly slashes at Gorbundus (huge human in black plate).
Matrim's first attack tings! off Gorbundus' black plate armor,
but his second attack finds a gap and slashes deeply into Gorbundus' side.
Gorbundus grunts "Uuugh !!!"

Myra fires an arrow towards Gorbundus, striking true.
The arrow punches through Gorbundus' armor and thuds! deeply into his shoulder.
Myra then attempts to hide again amongst the stone blocks.

Raieylan dashes towards the hill and sound of battle.
He makes it clear of the billowing black cloud, and onto the eastern side of the hill,
near Bandish and Bhelmyr's spiritual axe.

The eerie nocturnal shadowy shapes continue their swift movement south and then east,
along the edge of the forest, towards the stone blocks and Myra.
Both Myra and Bhelmyr can see the creatures advancing upon their location.

Kvanlanir curses the zombie's resilience, and sends another arrow flying,
thudding into the zombie's rotting body.
The zombie drops to the ground on the side of the hill ...
DM rolled 14 using 1d20+3.  zombie con save DC 13
... then slowly stands once again.
(The zombie hadn't moved, so standing up again is his move action for this round.
Plus, it's spooooky ...
)

Gorbundus, the huge human in black plate mail, is injured and furious.
He strikes out at Matrim with bonebreaker, his greataxe.
DM rolled 16 using 1d20+7.  Gorbundus attack
DM rolled 13 using 1d12+5.  Gorbundus damage

Spraying blood from Matrim's belly, Gorbundus hacks once more at the goliath.
DM rolled 21 using 1d20+7.  Gorbundus attack
DM rolled 10 using 1d12+5.  Gorbundus damage

Gorbundus yells in Matrim's face, "Ahaha ! You'll join my undead army !!!"
Matrim takes 11 HP damage total from the two attacks.

Bhelmyr's spectral axe slashes at the resilient zombie (Z1),
hacking the zombies back open, exposing rotting flesh and broken ribs,
and knocking the zombie back down onto the ground once again.
DM rolled 21 using 1d20+3.  zombie con save DC 15
The zombie is in a horrifically hacked dismembered state,
but continues clawing at the ground, intent upon remaining un-alive a little while longer,
in order to destroy all who live !
The spectral axe then moves towards the tiefling, Nija Necrosis.

Meanwhile, Bhelmyr casts magic missile at Nija Necrosis.
The missiles slam into Nija, who spins and glares at the flying dwarf.
She narrows her eyes and hisses "A flying dwarf ?! I'll put you back beneath the earth !!!"

We will pause this round of combat here, to allow Bandish to alter his action,
due to him reverting to his human form.
Bandish, please post a new action for this round.
Then I'll post the remainder of the round events :

EDITED ACTION AT DM'S REQUEST....

Shaking his head from the sudden shift back to his human form Bandish calls on his Lady. The shimmering iridescent light of the night sky answers him as a concentrated pillar of light engulfs the zombie before him


ACTION: cast MOONBEAM centered on the zombie that just attacked him. Make a CON save DC 15 or take 10 radiant damage 1/2 on a save.
MOVE: none.

NOTE: Moonbeam is a concentration spell.

Reaction: Stone’s Endurance

You can focus yourself to occasionally shrug off injury. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled, and reduce the damage by that total. After you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Shaking his head, gathering his thoughts, Bandish casts moonbeam, creating a concentrated pillar of light which engulfs the zombie (Z1).

The zombie erupts into ghostly flames!
DM rolled 11 using 1d20+3.  zombie con save DC 15
The zombie body burns under the moonbeam radiant light ... and finally stops moving.
Zombie 1 is destroyed.

Elora the priestess turns to face Nija Necrosis the necromancer.
Elora yells at Nija "I've been tasked with protecting this shrine from evil like you ... and by good-golly-gosh I shall !",
then casts spirit guardians upon herself.
Angelic spectral forms appear around Elora and flit around her in a 15' radius.
Elora then moves closer to Nija, bringing the necromancer within the radius of the angelic spectral forms.

Elora orders her spiritual mace to attack Gorbundus.
DM rolled 8 using 1d20+5.  spiritual mace versus Gorbundus
Swish! The spritual mace misses.

Nija grimaces and moans horribly "Eeerooommmmmm" as the angelic spectral forms cut through her with their radiance.
DM rolled 9 using 3d8.  Elora spirit guardians damage
DM rolled 10 using 1d20+2.  Nija wisdom save DC 13

Nija takes the full damage from the spirit guardians.

Nija responds to Elora's spirit guardians attack by cursing "#$&%^!!! The power of these ghosts will be mine!"
Nija points her twisted tiefling fingers at Elora and casts blight.
Necrotic energy washes over Elora, draining her of moisture and vitality.
DM rolled 27 using 8d8.  Nija blight damage
DM rolled 6 using 1d20+1.  cov save DC 15

Elora takes the full damage of the blight, wailing in pain "Aaaarrrghhghghgh!!!"
Elora drops to the ground, unconscious ... almost dead.
(Elora is on 0 HP)
The spiritual mace and the spirit guardians wink! out of existance.

Nija Necrosis laughs "Ahahah hahahah haha !!!",
as the ogre zombie begins lumbering as fast as it can (dash) towards Bandish.
The huge ogre zombie makes it to Bandish, but does not have time to attack, yet.

The wicked-evil-staff of Nija begins glowing with a weird purple light,
as tendrils of evil necrotic energy whip out from it, towards the elven ghosts.
The elven ghosts attempt to continue their ancient ritualistic dance,
but experiece an interruption for the first time in centuries.
The purple necrotic energy whips around the ghosts, who flail and wail in silent torment.

Nija Necrosis laughs "Ahahaha" and says "Yes! YES! It's working ! Ahahahahaha !!!"

Although Elora cast the very cool spirit guardians spell,
Nija Necrosis took Elora down with one spell of her own! (blight).

Elora is dying (and will begin rolling death saves next round).
The ogre zombie has moved close to Bandish.

The only immediate threats visible are :
- Nija Necrosis
- Gorbundus (human in black plate)
- Ogre zombie
- eerie nocturnal shapes advancing upon Myra

Thanks for Bandish for altering his action for this round.
Matrim and Kvanlanir have posted actions for next round.
(When Elora cast spirit guardians I made little-glowing-things for the map.
Looked cool! Then Nija cast blight and knocked her down,
so I had to delete the little-glowing-things. sigh
)

Bhelmyr blasts Nija with another magic missile spell, while his spectral axe attacks her as well. "To the hilltop! Get the necromancer!" He shouts.

Action: Cast magic missile with a level 2 slot on Nija Necrosis, dealing 17 force damage.
Bonus: Spiritual weapon attack on Nija, hitting AC 13 for 7 force damage. If it misses, use favored by the gods to add 6 to the attack roll.

21:26, Today: Bhelmyr Godstouched rolled 17 using 4d4+4.  level 2 magic missile, all on Nija.
21:25, Today: Bhelmyr Godstouched rolled 4 using 2d4.

Raieylan appeared from the mist, quickly taking in the scene. He saw the armored person against a dwarf who was holding his own. He was about to go and attack.

...when he heard the call.

Instincts took over his own personal needs. He knew that something like a necormancer could be devastating to all here. He didn't know anyone here, but he was willing to help. "Damnit." he cursed, looking at the armored figure, and with a sigh, made his way towards the hill and the necromancer.

"I hope your with me today." he muttered to himself as he ran towards the hill. He knew he'd never get to them, so tapping into his arcane patron, he held out his hand, and a bolt of energy shot from his free hand towards the Necromancer., but the shot went wide

Myra took aim at the shadows advancing on her and shot loose her arrow hoping it would hit.

The two remaining zombies
(who are not near the hill, but rather just beyond the forest's edge, to the northwest)
begin wandering around aimlessly.

Matrim shrugs off some of the damage inflicted by Gorbundus,
then continues his assault against the black-armor-clad-human.
Matrim's first attack thuds! against Gorbundus' black armor,
but the second attack finds a gap in the plate mail, cutting deeply into Gorbundus' side.

Myra shoots an arrow at one of the advancing eerie nocturnal shadowy shapes.
Myra sees the arrow strike her target, and disappear into the blackness of the creature's blackest-of-black body.
The creature barely slows it's advance upon Myra's location.
Myra, believing that the eerie nocturnal shadowy shapes know of her location,
quickly makes her way to the other side of the stone blocks to hide.
(Myra believes that these creatures know roughly where she is,
and that she may not be able to hide from them for much longer as they advance upon her location.
Myra can continue to roll stealth checks, but it's getting more difficult to successfully hide as they get closer.
)

Raieylan moves up the hill, towards Nija Necrosis the necromancer,
and lets loose an eldritch blast, aimed at Nija.
Raieylan roiled 10 using 1d20 +5 - Eldritch blast
DM, on behalf of Raieylan, rolled 15 using 1d20+5.  Eldritch blast. - disadvantage
DM, on behalf of Raieylan, rolled 4 using 1d10.  Eldritch blast damage.

Raieylan believed the eldritch blast was going to miss the necromancer, when suddenly it seemed to hit !
For the briefest of moments Raieylan sees two Nija Necrosis's standing directly next to each other, as the eldritch blast finds its mark.
Then, just as suddenly, there is only one Nija again.
Nija grunts in pain, "Uuugh!"

The eerie nocturnal shadowy shapes continue advancing upon Myra's location.
Myra can feel the air grow cold.
Hiding behind the large stone block, Myra knows the shadows are very close by ...

Kvanlanir shoots an arrow at the ogre zombie, striking true !
The arrow thuds! into the ogre zombies back.

Gorbundus is looking very injured, but continues his assault against Matrim.
DM rolled 19 using 1d20+7.  Gorbundus attack
DM rolled 17 using 1d12+5.  Gorbundus damage
DM rolled 13 using 1d20+7.  Gorbundus attack

Gorbundus swings his greataxe at Matrim twice.
The first swing hits for 8 HP damage, while the second swing swishes through the air.

Bhelmyr unleashes more magic missiles upon Nija Necrosis,
pummeling her with multiple magic blows. thud! crack! thwok!

Bhelmyr then orders his spiritual axe to move and attack Nija.
Bhelmyr Godstouched rolled 13,7 using 1d20+6,1d8+3.  Spiritual Weapon Attack, Damage
DM, on behalf of Bhelmyr Godstouched, rolled 25 using 1d20+6.  Spiritual Weapon Attack - disadvantage

The spiritual axe cuts through Nija Necrosis, splattering evil dark red blood onto the ground at her feet.
Nija moans "Ooooohh Noooo !!!", then slumps to the ground, unconscious.
(Nija is on 0 HP)

(Elora rolls a death save. Pass #1)
DM rolled 15 using 1d20.  Elora death save #1

The ogre zombie slams down upon Bandish with a mighty blow !
DM rolled 23 using 1d20+3.  ogre zombie attack. CRIT !
DM rolled 24 using 2d8+8.  ogre zombie damage. MAX DAMAGE !

Bandish's head is smashed down into his chest cavity by the ferocious blow from the ogre zombie.
Bandish's skull and ribcage explode, erupting brains and gore onto the ogre zombie's fists and the ground nearby.
Bandish's horribly mangled body slumps to the ground, dead.

The wicked-evil-staff of Nija continues to glow with a weird purple light,
as tendrils of evil necrotic energy reach out from it, enveloping the elven ghosts.
The purple necrotic energy whips around the ghosts, who flail and wail in silent torment.

I forgot to mention that attack rolls made against Nija Necrosis the necromancer are made at disadvantage.
You'll find out why eventually.

Bandish is dead.
Elora is unconscious.
Nija is unconscious.
Gorbundus is very hurt.
Shadows are advancing upon Myra.
The ogre zombie is ferocious !

Raieylan was satisficed that the necromancer, Nija, was unconscious, but was disturbed her staff was still active....was the staff feeding on other things to fuel her life?

The roar behind him brought the brief thought out of his mind.  A giant lumbering ogre zombie came forward. looking hungry and angry, having just pulverized one of the other people into death. The half elf groaned as he stepped up. His mind whirling, he clicked his fingers, the shadows colasending around the zombie, as he stepped forward, his scimitar drawn to attack.

Please don't kill me yet. he thought to himself.

Bhelmyr have his spectral axe swing at the staff, and if that seems to have a good effect, he will cast magic missile at it, as well. If not, he will target the zombie ogre with the magic missile, instead.

Bonus Action: Attack Nija's staff with Spiritual Weapon, hitting AC 21 for 7 force damage.
Action: Magic Missile for 9 force damage on NIja's Staff or Ogre Zombie.
Move: If necessary.

1 Ghosts

The two remaining zombies (9 and 10) continue wandering around aimlessly.

Matrim continues his attack on Gorbundus.
Matrim's first mighty blow hacks through Gorbundus' black plate mail,
spilling a torrent of blood onto the ground.
Gorbundus drops to his knees, looks up at Matrim with hatred in his eyes,
then drops prone onto the ground ... dead.
Gorbundus is dead !

Matrim moves north to the ogre zombie and slashes at the large undead creature.
Matrim hacks away rotting flesh from the ogre zombies side.

Myra takes one shot at the advancing shadows before fleeing back toward her allies.
The arrow thuds into one of the shadows and disappears into the blackness,
as Myra quickly moves northeast.

Moving towards the ogre zombie, Raieylan casts a hex on the undead creature,
before attacking with his scimitar, slashing deeply through rotting flesh.
(Hex question : which ability does Raieylan choose to make the ogre zombie have disadvantage with?)

Advancing upon their prey, the shadows follow the fleeing Myra, catching up to her.

Shadow 1 reaches out with a shadowy hand to touch Myra.
DM rolled 18 using 1d20+4.  shadow attack
DM rolled 12 using 2d6+2.  shadow damage
DM rolled 1 using 1d4.  shadow strength drain

Myra feels the lightest of touches from the shadow,
and then intense pain as necrotic energy eats her flesh and drains her strength.
(Myra's strength is drained by 1.)

Shadow 2 reaches out with a shadowy hand to touch Myra, but misses.
DM rolled 8 using 1d20+4.  shadow attack

Shadow 3 reaches out with a shadowy hand to touch Myra, but misses.
DM rolled 11 using 1d20+4.  shadow attack

Kvanlanir again shoots an arrow at the ogre zombie, striking true !
The arrow thuds! into the ogre zombies back.
DM, on behalf of Kvanlanir, rolled 26,7 using d20+8,d8+4.  Attack w/ Longbow

Bhelmyr orders his spectral axe to attack Nija Necrosis' evil staff.
The spectral axe chops away part of the bony adornments of the staff.
(Yes, it seemed to have an effect!)
Bhelmyr continues by casting magic missiles at the staff.
pow! pow! pow! The magic missiles slam into the staff, further damaging it.

(Elora rolls a death save. Pass = 2, Fail = 0)
DM rolled 19 using 1d20.  Elora death save

(Nija rolls a death save. Pass = 0, Fail = 1)
DM rolled 8 using 1d20.  Nija death save

The ogre zombie slams it's enormous fists down at Matrim.
DM rolled 4 using 1d20+3.  ogre zombie attack
(I was going to also roll a disadvantage roll, in case Raieylan chose strength to be the affected hex ability ... but no matter.)
The ogre zombie's fists smash into the ground.

Though damaged, the wicked-evil-staff of Nija continues to glow with a weird purple light,
as tendrils of evil necrotic energy reach out from it, enveloping the elven ghosts.
The purple necrotic energy whips around the ghosts, who flail and wail in silent torment.

and the MAP of the wandering zombie's movements.
They're to the north-east a short distance away, and no immediate threat.

Feeling the creepy shadow cause her pain, Myra no longer wasted anymore time. She runs as far from the shadows as possible and in a direction where no enemies seem to be.


Bonus Action: Disengage with the shadows.
Movement: As close to the staff as possible.
Action: Dash.

Raieylan sniffed with repulsion at the stench of the ogre zombie, and slashed at the beast. Mis-judging his attack, he slashed and missed the zombie.

Matrim will continue his assault on the undead monstrosity. Grunts and roars are all that are heard from the Goliath as he continues the rage.

Bhelmyr has his spectral axe continue chopping at the staff, while he calls down holy flames to purify it... he hopes. If that doesn't destroy it, He'll fly down, pick up the staff, and fly away with it, towards Matrim.

Action: Sacred flame DC 14 dex save for 10 radiant damage.
Bonus: Spiritual Weapon attack AC 9 for 6 damage.
Move: If staff isn't destroyed, fly to it, pick it up, fly as far as possible in Matrim's direction.

Matrim continues his assault on the undead monstrosity (ogre zombie).
Grunts and roars are all that are heard from the goliath as he continues his rage.
Matrim twice slashes through the huge belly of the ogre zombie,
splattering gore onto the ground.
Still the ogre zombie stands !

Feeling the creepy shadow cause her pain,
Myra runs as far from the shadows as possible,
in a direction where no enemies seem to be.
(Myra runs northeast, towards the billowing dark smoky cloud.)

Raieylan sniffed with repulsion at the stench of the ogre zombie,
slashed at the beast, and missed.

The shadows, not being fond of the well-lit hill area,
move quickly (dash) to the east,
where more ancient large stone blocks lay.

Kvanlanir continues the ranged assault,
trying to bring down the undying ogre zombie.
Another arrow from Kvanlanir's bow thuds! into the ogre zombies huge rotting body.

Bhelmyr has his spectral axe continue chopping at the staff,
while he calls down holy flames (in the hope of purifying the staff).

The spectral axe chops ! (but misses)
The sacred flames ... burn !
The staff glows bright with an intense purple light,
then BOOM!!! explodes in a violent blast of necrotic energy,
blasting those within 15' (Elora and Nija, both unconscious) with necrotic damage.

Both Elora and Nija are unable to avoid the necrotic damage from the exploding staff,
and thus automatically take one failed death save.
(Elora death saves. Pass = 2, Fail = 1)
(Nija death saves. Pass = 0, Fail = 2)

All that remains of the staff is a blackened stump of wood stuck into the ground.
The staff is destroyed.
The destruction of the staff ended the staffs necrotic assault upon the elven ghosts.

The elven ghosts seem to have ... disappeared !

(Elora rolls a death save. Pass = 2, Fail = 2)
DM rolled 4 using 1d20.  Elora death save

(Nija rolls a death save. Pass = 1, Fail = 2)
DM rolled 14 using 1d20.  Nija death save

The ogre zombie continues trying to smash Matrims brains in.
DM rolled 19 using 1d20+3.  ogre zombie attack.
DM rolled 16 using 2d8+8.  ogre zombie damage.

The ogre zombie smashes Matrim about the head with a mighty blow.
Matrim felt that one ! (and takes 8 HP damage)

The ogre zombie is looking hurt.
Matrim is badly hurt.
Elora and Nija are both close to death (see death saves, above).
The staff is destroyed.
The ghosts have disappeared.
The shadows have skulked off to the east ...
