For those who have played some 5E, which of the published adventure modules have you played through (if any)?

I've actually managed to get through over a decade of gaming without touching an adventure module, all the campaigns I've done or been in were homebrewed.

I prefer homebrew myself, but since I wasn't planning on running this game until I saw multiple people showing interest, I've got nothing prepared. The last time I ran my own homebrew game was in 3.5, so I'd have to spend a fair amount of time converting everything to 5E, and I don't really have time for that right now.

We'll most likely be running a premade for this game since the point is to learn or become more familiar with the rules.

How would we go about multiclassing, was thinking of adding Ranger to Garrin. You said we would roleplay it before the fact?

When you gain a level, instead of becoming a Rogue 2, you would instead become a Rogue 1/Ranger 1.

There's a table on page 163 that shows you what's required to multiclass into each class. The Ranger requires you to have a 13 in both Dexterity and Wisdom (so you need to swap some ability scores around), and the table on the following page shows you what proficiencies you gain from that class. In the case of Ranger, that would be "Light armor, medium armor, shields, simple weapons, martial weapons, one skill from the class’s skill list". You also gain all of the abilities/spells of that class for the level (Favored Enemy and Natural Explorer, but no spells, in the Ranger's case).

Roleplaying the Ranger multiclass would be pretty easy, as it's very similar to Rogue to start with. Taking a background that's related to Ranger'ish things works well for that (Outlander, Hermit, Soldier, Criminal (Spy)). Multiclassing from one non-caster class into another is really fairly straightforward, as is going from caster to caster. Mixing the two types of classes together is where things can get a bit more hairy.

For starting gold, you choose one of the following:

1. You take the starting equipment given to you by your class and background (having 10-25g left over).
2. Roll for starting gold (4d4 x10 GP for a Wizard), but you don't get any of your class or background equipment.

And do note that as a Wizard, if you decide to roll for your gold, you need to spend 50g on a spellbook, and the longbow costs another 50g, so you've got 100g worth of your starting coin tied up in just those two things. Then you need either a Focus (staff is 5g) or the Component Pouch (25g) to cover your material components.

You don't need to worry about ammo, so ignore the arrows.

I'll stick with option number 1 thank you!
20 gold I'll keep the starting equipment and longbow from my background. Ignoring ammo, gotcha.

Which background did you take? I'm pretty sure none of them give you a longbow.

My character sheet is pretty much done, I just have to expand Garrin's background a bit to incorporate the Ranger aspect

Depending on how many people we end up with from all of the applications, we may split this into multiple groups. Right now we've got a solid group, but we'll see how it goes.

And there should be one (more or less) complete dwarf cleric for the party now.

Eirlen, is it wise to take an instrument generally played from a sitting position into combat? Also, is it bad that I played string instruments and never heard of one of these? I thought you just misspelled viola.
