Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

With no AoE at all, you would get destroyed if I had you face everything at once, so I'm working on fight 1 of 2.

Work interrupted my fun time today. On the flip side I think I'm gonna get a pretty good commision for the effort...so I've got that going for me.

Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

And perfectly opposite the best tactical situation! With sweeping attack, I should be fighting goblins, while Betty, if she rages, can better withstand the damage from the owlbear. :D

Still, I will try to keep Talin safe.

Also, did we get a short rest between these encounters? Or did we just rush in?

Maric and Betty seemed nice and confident after the first fight, so we just rushed on in.

Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

In this game we're doing critical hits by the book, so whatever dice you roll for your normal damage, roll those dice again and add the result. So a 2d6 attack will do an additional 2d6, for example.

Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

I HATE to delay further (especially after I delayed all day due to gaming, etc), BUT: When I read Maric's post (msg 310), he stated he was at the "top of the map, North". Which would, I thought, put him at the open space just north of the "cabinet" and attacking and killing Goblins to the lower left diagonal square, and the direct right adjacent square. With those two dead, Betty proceeded into the room "behind Bearic" (msg 312) and attacked the 3rd Goblin (the one directly above the Grick, from my reckoning) from atop the cabinet (I wasn't sure what to call it, so I didn't mention it directly in my post, that's my bad). She still could have multiple attacks, but from the way I'm reading Maric's post and the way I intended mine, the two of them would be in the main room together, and she COULDN'T be surrounded by goblins at all.

Thoughts, advice, insight?

Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

Maric attacked the 2 that had been right beside the door since those were the ones closest to him. I showed where everyone was on the map before you posted actions. If he were to fight the ones at the literal top of the map, he'd have taken 2 opportunity attacks moving through the room to get to them, and you'd have taken three opportunity attacks yourself to get there to hit the one you're referring to, and you still would have ended up in the same situation since you'd have been the nearest target for all but maybe one of the goblins. If Maric had gone into the room and attacked something other than the 2 goblins nearest to him, some of them might have gone after him instead of you.

The reason you're completely surrounded is because the grick grabbed you from a distance and pulled you closer to him for the beak attack. Technically, you're in the same square as the grick and the goblin to your left is in the square your character portrait is in, sandwiched between the grick and the goblin. This view just represents relative positioning better.

Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

I think it would help to have multiple enemies numbered, additionally, I would not have had Betty charge into the room alone.

But, I'll deal with the situation as-is, tomorrow (later today) after I get some sleep! All's good in the goblin 'hood!

Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

@Betty - unfortunately, I think only the Rogue Thief archetype's Fast Hands ability would allow you to attack and then take a potion as a bonus action.

Anyway, here's hoping the DM's die rolls are just as bad as Maric's and mine this round. Or this may be the end of the line. :D

Re: OOC - General Out of Character thread

Since this game is designed to teach 5E rules, we'll have to stick to them. You can draw the potion as a free action, but it takes a full Action to drink it. Not to mention the free hand to do so.
