Darkstar's Thread

As Kevin headed up the street it was a couple times he had noticed a dark haired woman starting in his direction from across the street through the traffic of cars, as a few would pass the 4 lane road. He got to a street corner were the traffic waited on the red light to change, Kevin saw the lady crossing the street towards him. There was no smile so it was hard to know what the deal was. Was she interested in him? Was she may be thinking he was someone else? Was she.. Kevin was in mid-thought when she got close enough to him.

Mr. Bloom we have a need of your services. her voice was smooth but none menacing as she spoke .

She was holding an envelope in her hand that she was handing over to him. She didn’t really wait for his reply as she was handing it to Kevin.

Please be there tomorrow around 3:00 pm ...

Darkstar's Thread

Kevin took the paper automatically and glanced at the single line of text on it.  "Who the hell is-?" Kevin started to ask the woman.  Who was gone.  Of course.

Kevin's first instinct was to toss the message and bug out of town.  Go Darkstar Omar on a couple of dealers for some ready cash and haul ass for elsewhere.  But doing that burned certain kinds of bridges.  And the note had mentioned "services" which meant a job, which meant payment.  And there were many kinds of payment.  Money, of course.  But also favors.  And information.

Kevin was in serious need of information.  He could almost feel it in his bones that that fucker Belial was active somewhere doing the same hideous shit he'd done in Miami.  But thus far the trail was colder than a penguin's dick.

"Fine, whoever you are, I'll bite, and if it's a fucking trap, I'll bite harder," Kevin said to himself.

Kevin spent the rest of the time between doing his deliveries and getting his pay, returning the next day at 3 PM to where he'd been told to be.

"All right, you invited me and I'm here," he said to no one in particular.  "Let's hear what the what is."

Darkstar's Thread

A few people looked at Kevin as they past thinking he had been talking to them until they saw William stepped out from the side of the building. he was in a tan trench coat with a black shirt and jeans.

Hello Kevin, glad you came. he came to stand next to Kevin and indicated to a door to a building they were in front of.
Please come in, We have a lot to talk about.

Looking at the building there was no company logo or sign on the building to indicate what it was. The only visible sign was and old sticker sign on the window of the entrance door... It was scratched and most of it was faded, the only thing you could barely make out was ...
</i> H r or h re</i>

William entered holding the door for Kevin.

Kevin stood still, his eyes doing a roll and a mild smirk on his face.  "My mommy told me never to get in cars with strangers.  Figure that applies to buildings, too."

He gestured down the street a few doors down.  "I hear they got some damn fine crawfish etouffee.  We can do a business lunch.  If you're buying, I'm listening."

William let out a little smile and a shrug Fine by me. . He said realizing he was actually pretty hungry.
The Abyssinia restaurant was down the street from where they were, So you like Cajun food? he said as they headed over  after a few minutes they had arrived and entered once they were seated William pulled out a little disc from his pocket. It was no bigger than a Quarter. He placed it on the table next to his mug.
Sound Dampener so we are not overheard. Once we order .
He motioned for the waitress and awaited for the young man to order.

Kevin ordered the lamb alicha with rice and a Fiji bottled water and sat back waiting for his host to order.

Once she'd left he glanced at the dampener.  "That narrows things a little.  That's a bit more techy that a couple vibrators taped to a window to beat laser mikes.  What're you SHIELD?  HYDRA?  Probably not HYDRA.  They usually like their rice nice and white and my mom was Haitian so I got a little bit of Black in my Irish."

William looked at the waitress and orders a french onion soup.  Once she had both their orders and turned William clicked the dampener.

Kevin asked his question and William gave a slight smile.

We are something else. The purpose of this team is to search for people like yourself. Good and bad, to determine the possibility of alliances or threats. Should there come a time where the world is facing an issue where S.H.I.E.L.D. is not enough. We need to know who we can turn to, Which people could help and who would turn against us possibly joining with AIM, HYDRA or Even worst an Alien threat. he told Kevin.
Your abilities have great potential. Potential I would rather have on my side, We are also aware of your run in’s with Belial. We’re hoping to have some intel soon if that can help consider my offer.

"I don't know about worst," Kevin said, musing.  "AIM and HYDRA, sure, they're bad news.  Aliens?  Like ID4 or some crap?  I dunno.  Assuming they can't just park a Death Star next to the Moon and blast us to pebbles, you know, that they'd be something we could fight, figure people would band together against a common enemy who was an outsider.  Belial... Belial is something different.

"You know about me, you've probably got files.  So fine, I'm a criminal.  Burglary, petty theft, grand larceny, grand theft auto and, yes, drug dealing," Kevin told him.  "I'm not proud of it.  Well, maybe a little proud of it.  But as a dealer, what I wanted was customers that bought frequently, paid well, came back for more and handled their shit.

"I did not want dysfunctional assholes cutting old lady's throats for the scratch to buy my product.  I most especially did not want dysfunctional assholes so fucked up by my product that they'd go ape-shit in a mall and start tossing little kids off the third floor balconies.  Belial did.  It's why the first people to start trying to move against him were other gangs.  Other dealers.  'cause nobody wants that level of crazy noise around.  It brings cops.  It finally brought SHIELD.

"It was like the fucker got off on putting shit out there that was just bad news for everyone.  And this new thing?  The powers thing?  That's just scary as fuck to me.  And it should be to you, too," Kevin said.

"I mean you wanna build trust between supers and norms?  I can't think of anything worse for that than the idea that there's somebody killin' supes so norms can use their abilities.  Shit like that could lead to a full-on war of the powered against the not."

Williams clicked the noise Dampener as the waitress brought over the food.
Thank you, once she left again looked at Kevin turning the device back on.

I’m not here to arrest you or give you a lecture.  Your criminal past doesn’t mean anything to me. Those contacts are sometimes more valuable and more willing to talk along with having more precise info than undercover or legal contacts.. However I would suggest the dealing stop.

William said as he paused to take a sip of his soup struggling with the long string of melted cheese that attempted to attach itself to his chin.
As for Belial, We have a few agents out in a suspected area, They will let me know if anything comes up. I agree that a war of Supers would be bad. But hopefully we can prevent that.

"I dealt for money, not a cause," Kevin replied.  "Assuming you're offering a decent pay package and maybe a cut of the spoils from whoever we take down, it won't be a problem."

"As for your agents, you better have somebody watching them and watching over them," Kevin said with a grimace.  "Belial... has ways of getting to people, finding their weak spots and hitting them hard and ugly."

"Also, you mentioned a team," Kevin recall between forkfuls of the delicious meal.  "Who else are you considering to consider your offer?"

We will have a headquarters, All your living arrangements will be supplied, all food, and personal things you need will be supplied. There will be other perks I’m sure you’ll be happy with. I cannot confirm the team as the recruitment is underway. But you join us here tomorrow…  he said giving Kevin a card with the address. .. and you can decide then once you see  the basics? he says.

William clicks the dampener.   I’m sorry Kevin I need to go. Hope to see you there tomorrow. he says dropping 60$ on the table, for a meal that costed no more than 30$ and putting on his coats as he turns to leave.

"Sounds good to me," Kevin told me even as he noted that the man hadn't actually confirmed the bit about the pay package. "I'll see you tomorrow."

Oh, well, figure with something like this there'll be plenty of ways to do a side hustle, Kevin thought to himself.

After the other man left, Kevin finished off the rest of his meal.  And then took the opportunity to order some take home for later out of the $60 the guy had left.  Waste not, want not.
