Re: Martial Arts: Baogang(Tia Chi Chuan) vs Pingbi (Shaolin)

having failed to seize his foe, but seeing him still operating on pure reflex, Pingbi riskily continues to try and seize Baogang.

13:31, Today: Derrick rolled 8 using 3d6.  grapple torso Judo Skill 18 + 4 (determined) -8 (deceptive)  = 14.

14:48, Today: Dblade rolled 7 using 3d6.  Roll to parry -4 stun, -4 deceptive attack, +3 Evaluate+2 Feverish Defense=9. Success!

14:43, Today: Dblade rolled 7 using 3d6.  Roll to shake off mental stun. Target number 10, success!

Baogang manages to block through the mental haze on sheer reflex more than skill, then shake off the haze surrounding his brain.

Re: Martial Arts: Baogang(Tia Chi Chuan) vs Pingbi (Shaolin)

He used his evaluate last block, I believe? So he doesn't get it the second go around.

What's his FP at?

Re: Martial Arts: Baogang(Tia Chi Chuan) vs Pingbi (Shaolin)

I mean, I didn't have him use his Evaluate last block. The numbers there were just his normal parry, minus the deceptive attack and stun and plus his Feverish Defense bonus. His FP is at 8 now.

But he did nothing for his manuever last turn, so he lost the evaluate bonus.

Pingbi moves the grapple towards an arm lock!

14:07, Today: Derrick rolled 10 using 3d6.  Arm Lock skill 20 - 8 (deceptive) = 12.

Did you say earlier that you can't use Judo to defend against attacks I make while grappled? Also is Pingbi grappling with both arms this time?

Re: Martial Arts: Baogang(Tia Chi Chuan) vs Pingbi (Shaolin)

Correct on both counts. Remember the -4 for being grappled, and you have to defend against the arm lock.

EDIT: it appears that locking an arm requires two hands and makes it so I'm no longer grappling the rest of the body.

Re: Martial Arts: Baogang(Tia Chi Chuan) vs Pingbi (Shaolin)

Locking an arm can be done with one hand as per the rules under 'The Sound of One Hand Grappling' but you would be attempting it at a disadvantage IIRC, wouldn't get the bonus to hold Baogang in the lock and it would be easier to break free from. If you fail I think you're still grappling the body, but if you succeed you're only grappling the arm and IIRC the penalties to me stop applying except for my inability to use that arm and the pain each round? In either case both hands still remain occupied.

I'm more willing to take the damage than to let Baogang get the bonus to break free. My actions stand.

Is it really a -4 to defend? I thought it was a -4 to DX, but a -2 to Active Defenses.

No, its -4 to DX, -2 to parry or block, or -1 to dodge

Re: Martial Arts: Baogang(Tia Chi Chuan) vs Pingbi (Shaolin)

So my total penalty should be -6 to parry the arm lock attempt?

Chin up! I'll be using Feverish Defense, but without it, you've still eliminated like half my Parry!

Re: Martial Arts: Baogang(Tia Chi Chuan) vs Pingbi (Shaolin)

Ugg, I just realized that move was not legal. Telegraphic attacks don't apply to quick contests, which means I failed my roll. I think pingbi is going to tap out of this one. Karate-11 and Judo-18 was a very poor decision. I've learned a lot from this fight, but I don't think we're going to learn anything else.

Pingbi taps out. His Ki is strong, but he lacks the brutality needed for this arena.

Baogang bows politely to his opponent. It's rare to face a fighter of such a level of skill and ki development.
