I assume this refers to unarmed arts, and probably has an eastern bent. That could work. Its got ready made templates and styles. The biggest decision is cinematic vs. gritty.

Re: Scenario Brainstorming

I'd be fine with working in Western styles but probably unarmed overall, unless we do a separate round for armed? Unarmed vs armed gets...messy.

and yeah gritty vs cinematic would be my biggest question.

Re: Scenario Brainstorming

I've got an idea for something here.  It's something that could be fun or way too time intense.  We'll see:

Something like "First Blood" or "Most Dangerous game" or "The Foreigner", or Tag on a chess board meet battleship

I'm picturing this in terms of First Blood:

We're in the woods on a 10x10 grid or something.  One person is Rambo and gets to set up 2 or 3 traps in advance anywhere on the grid. He then moves through the woods trying to hide, subdue, trap or kill everyone else. The deputies and sheriff then basically move through the woods trying to find, catch and subdue/kill him.

Derrick or someone has visibility to what the Rambo is doing (current location, traps set, etc...) and no one else does.  This way traps like pongis or beartraps or whatever other Rambo stuff can He also knows what everyone else is doing.

Game is over when one team or the other is neutralized.

Weapons:

Contemporary, light armor, knives, stuff a rural sheriff's department would have or weekend recreational hunters

Setting:
Dense woods so you'd need constant perception rolls, hiking rolls, tracking rolls or just get lucky and stumble into the same space on the grid.

Characters:

I think this is a low point build for everyone but the Rambo. Pretty average people.

What do we think?

I like that idea and would participate. I'm also still looking for another old west fight, if anyone is interested.

Just pick up GURPS Action 2 Exploits, the rules haven't changed in any manner in which the chase rules are concerned.

Re: Scenario Brainstorming

In reply to Wing Commander (msg # 14):

I’m going to adapt the Space Opera Combat System for this, I think.

It’s a three-phase system with a Target Phase and a Maneuver Phase and a Fire Phase.

In the TF, there are 2 choices:

Aquire Target: A higher success can provide a bonus to aiming at the target
Maintain Target: The longer you have the same target, increases your chance to aim

In the MF, there are 5 choices:

Maintain Course: this can provide a bonus to opponents aim, and yours
Maneuver Offensively: this can improve your aim
Maneuver Defensively: this can reduce your opponent aim and yours
Total Defense: this can reduce your opponents aim more but removes any target you have
Special: all the crazy maneuvers, from ramming to bailing out and everything in-between

In the FF, there are 3 choices:

Pass: no effects
Declare Dodge: can dodge, reduces aim to you and attacker
Fire: roll’em & reduced attacker’s aim

Thoughts?

I asked my questions in the public forum as you're far more likely to get eyes on it there.

Hello there, first time posting here! Anyone up for a fencing duel? Possibly pitting different rapier fencing styles against each other (e.g. La Verdadera Destreza vs Italian, or French), or maybe even mixing weapons.

Re: Scenario Brainstorming

Intriguing.  Unfortunately for me you've caught me right when I'm personally stupidly busy, so I have no time to participate, but I could adjudicate.

Were you interested in 'realistic' duels, IE incorporating terrain problems, etc; or more formalized duels where the field is level and the arena size limited?

Re: Scenario Brainstorming

Well, to begin with I was envisioning a simple "arena" fight (I'm not terribly well versed in the minutiae of Martial Arts rules and it's honestly been a while since I got to play GURPS overall), but a Princess Bride type fight could be interesting.

Re: Scenario Brainstorming

Well, to be completely all about me... ;) ... an 'arena' fight is a lot easier on me.  So let's give this a few days, see if anyone is around and wants to participate and I'll start putting together some rules.

Did you have a character point level you wanted to try out?  (I recommend 100 points as that is also a 'very simple' set-up)

Re: Scenario Brainstorming

Again, my idea was to stage something simple, so, yeah, 50-100 points is what I had in mind :)
