Re: Various Locations - Currently "Casa Del Sombrero"

Casa Del Sombrero
Hatters home is on the upper side of Central City. A subset of the suburbs raises up into a hill filled area, the home in question sits on the side of one such cliff. A high-tech number that looks fairly fitting for exclusively his Head persona. Designed from Glass and metal with geometric shapes as the primary design choice it stands out from the itty bitty greenhouse but took up the near microscopic backyard, made even smaller things to the small swimming pool.

Hatter had money and it showed.

The garage was mostly converted for construction and fabrication projects where is the primary building itself looks like it's either lived in or was designed to be and meeting place. the whole thing couldn't be called a base so much it was just simply a home that was purchased in modified. If somebody were to attack it with supers would fall like a house of cards.

Hatter was racing around with a number of Pizzas trying to get things ready. The goal behind getting people to do a briefing outside of others was really because he picked up on a psionic. Shrew had a mental block that was in place and there were only one or two psionic powers that could do that. Being a psionic was a nightmare at times, so much damn paperwork one would assume that you are an accountant for legal firms.

With a screech of wheels, the shiny red dodge Challenger stopped nearby the building, and the blonde bombshell slided out of her vehicle, fetching the tower of pizzas she gots from Luigi's ten minutes ago.

In her unforgettable way, hips swaying with feminity, confidence and power, she knocked or rang at the bell, for this special delivery service, and night out.

Locks shifted and the door opened giving her hand a gentle tug to encourage her to enter. Hatter was in the process of moving a giant white cushion to sit in front of one of his chairs. "Hey Knockout, we may not have a huge amount of time but it's important all the same. Few slices and a debrief."

He made a gesture and took the weight of pizza up, guiding her for the kitchen. "First off, how are you doing? One on one with Shrew looked like a grand old time. Need any patching up real quick? She no doubt will."

He didn't have his helmet on and he looked exactly as one would expect, a scruffy smart guy but and supremely confident in himself. Still in a suit he cut an odd but not off figure. "Names William 'Hatter' Mesmer, by the way."

She followed him in the kitchen, and put the pizaas onto the central spot, then went to wash her hands.

SHe never wwore a mask herself, as it never stroke her as necessary, been quite remarkable anyway, all blonde, supernaturally pretty, busty and statuesque.

"Brooke. Nice knowing you Bill. And no thanks. SHe was good with her jabs, but my superphyshiology makes it difficult to bruise me for long. So I'm good. And hungry. And thristy. I hope the others won't take too much time, or I don't promise I'll wait for them to eat the pizzas"

Hatter shrugged, "Fortune favors the bold. Part of me thinks they won't show up considering the whole police station thing." He gestured at the pizza. "Dig in. You care for tea or wine? I also have a rainbow of beer and my own brew." He kept more than a few wines on hand and he had enough tea to stay up for a week.

"In all honesty the important one was you. When I mind controlled Shrew I found a clear sign she had a block that was placed there by a psionic. She won't tell them about her team." He pulled out a big fat bottle of hot sauce for his own pizza. "I didn't see a psy in their group, but even then I am invisible to mentalist detection so it's not far fetched they have the same."

"When you had been captured, did you see anyone who was being quiet? Missing any patches of memory or something get fuzzy?"

"I'll go for red wine." she replied with a cheerful smile. She opened a pizza box, and grabbed one part to munch, obviously with a good appetite.

"I don't remember much. I just got ambushed in an undergound parking, and somehow gazed so I felt unconscious quickly. So yes, everything got fuzzy, but I doubt that can be helpful. You're the expert in minds, so if you belive some mentalist is hidding, well, we should be cautious."

There are few twenty-four hour pizza joints in town, but Knockout knows them. Otherwise she wouldn't have been able to show up at two am with a couple of pies. The Crushers had attacked Manning Enterprises at midnight, and clean up took some time.
Also, there is no evidence that Knockout was mentally manipulated.

William set out a glass for her and poured. A newer wine from the samurai girl branch. "I am about as sure of it as someone picking bullets out of a vest saying there was a fire fight."

"Hawk is the only other one who had been exposed for any length of time worth noting. There is drifter bit he's a whole bag of cats I don't care to mind scan. Anyone that deep in fiction is likely to have a unique brain."
he rubbed his chin. "I'll see about a passive scan for the others. If you'll consent I'll alert you to and highlight and holes or blocks you may have. Nothing invasive."

"I can't remove blocks, my skills are more in mind reading and cellular augmentation through removing mental blocks. I can, however, help you get through them."

"Up for it? Kinda have to have consent being a card carrying psy. They make me have wavers to do anything fun, but simple checkups are a verbal consent thing."

Ooc: yea, was running on the fact she was alone in their grip for an extended period. At this point it's safe to assume she was either gassed or mind blasted. I'll include such in any report for a clean bill of mental health.

He smiled, "Far be it for me to tell a woman with a killer figure as to how she should eat." He pulled a rosary out of his pocket and wrapped it around his wrist as a reminder for himself.

He moved around the counter and placed his hand on the small of her back. Contact wasn't required but it did let people know he started. Half of what he did was more for others sake. "Annddd."

He assumed it was a bad memory so he didn't replay it for her. He was professional and discreet as he went for a mind scan and a swift read. Hatters own mind was like a well ordered presence. Firmly commanding but also gentle as he was fairly skilled.

"Interesting but no real sign of tampering. Likely gassed out, no sign of someone picking through while you had been out. Though that is worth exploring at your leisure."

He smiled at her. "Anything you want me to look over beyond this? Any weapon X type hero back story you want explored?" He didn't want to push so early. Ruin things so quick and knockout could likely do just that to him.

Brooke licked two fingers of the pizza's remaining, showing how tasteful it was, with a wink. She didn't feel anything at first, but would eventually notice him doing something with her mind, as any people would, except if he was skilled and powerful enough to make it invisible.

"I dunno. You're  the epxert. During my time gased out and the moment I woke up.. I dunno if they could have tried to manipulate my mind or.." she stopped, obviously reminding of something that made her embarrassed, but said nothing more. Smiling sly.

A delicate eyebrow raised on Knockout face, and she sipped more of her wine, pondering the offer, and smiling low. She wouldn't decide anything now, as she knew too much how her own metabolism and hormones could make her take hasty deicsions.

"Hmm, and what do you do when you don't ask grils out or try to read their mind and memories ? I have not much to hide, I'm afraid. I'm just a casual girl that went to church, with a patriot dad, and that got empowered by accident as a genetic accident somehow. "Got found out because while I may be super sneaky mentally, there is still a way to pick me up. Went dead emotionally when they turned off my powers."

"Ended up joining as even good guy psys are closely watched. It's good to have reminders to behave."
He rattled his Rosary. "It's real tempting to be a bad guy as a pay and that's not who I want to be. I want to be one of the good guys, even though I'm a sinner.

Although neither the gleam of headlights nor the sound of a motor indicates the fact, someone arrives and rings the doorbell. When the door is opened, the woman at the door says "Hatter!" and "Knockout!" with great excitement and zips into the room. Her perky, athletic appearance is the kind of counterpoint to Knockout's statuesque beauty that accentuates the latter's good points without losing any of its own strength. The only thing detracting from her appearance is the, somewhat large, backpack she wears (possibly in lieu of a purse, which she does not have).
"Oh, thank goodness for pizza! Flying around burns up so many calories you wouldn't believe it."
Around a large bite, she asks, "So? Where's everyone else?"

Hatter twisted and lifted Knockout gracefully up in a move straight out of the dirty dancing movie as he let Impulse in at range. He wasn't shy about being seen dancing so silly with Knockout. She was beautiful, witty, and hopefully adventurous.

"Still not here. I think the offer to the police station got the better of the guys. Al well, they can seek the glory and I'll dance with the ladies. Better company anyway." He let Knockout lead if she wanted to keep dancing or stop.

"The goal was to get everyone checked out before heading to the cops as the Shrew had clear and undeniable signs of a mental block put there by a mentalist."

"Knockout has already been given a clean bill of health. Not even a wrinkle in that lovely mind. If you consent I can look for you as well. As a mentalist I cannot give evaluation without clear consent."

"After that, it's a quick debrief. Teas in the kitchen island. Wine on the right, beer in the fridge."

Apparently, only three people showed up for the informal debriefing. Where Streetdemon went is questionable, but his attitude suggests that he would avoid contact with the police, in any case. Nighthawk has similarly vanished, and Predator may have felt his presence unnecessary as the fight was over when he arrived. Everyone heard Detective Broyko suggesting they show up at the police station in the morning, but where will they go from here?

Drifter has been examining the site for about ten minutes when the first one approaches him. The waif couldn't be more than four, and the strident voice crying "ROBBY! Whatever Drifter's answer would be is drowned by a piercing scream which is quickly followed by even more language homicide as a woman rushes towards the boy mouthing, "plissdoanhermabebbeeplissdoanhermabebbeeplissdoanhermabebbeeplissdoanhermabebbee."
As a crowd begins to form, mostly of fellow autograph seekers asking Drifter to sign their books, t-shirts, and a bicep (there's also a Gray's Gym in the complex), a squad car pulls into the complex. The uniformed officers exit the vehicle and approach Drifter. They explain that Detective Broyko wants them to offer rides to the station for anyone that helped in last night's incident.

  • The East Coast of the United States is currently being blackmailed by a previously unknown group known as THe Force. This group has stolen a deadly bacteriological agent (S-97) from the military and has planted it and a medium sized nuclear weapon somewhere on the East Coast.
  • The weapon will be detonated in such as way as to spread the agent over an approximate 100 mile radius. This particular agent was originally created by Mechanon, and the effects are too horrible to reveal to the public.

David got the message on Shade's phone. Which was technically his phone he only used as Shade. He knew just enough about computers to know how easily GPS could be tracked. So he proceeded to get Shade his own phone with his own account he paid for via cash.

Was it overly paranoid? Given the very weird life he now lived, it might actually be a little less paranoid then needed. After all, sooner or later some villain psychopath in going to get it in their head to kill Shade and anyone he cares about. David could avoid all that by just using his powers to get literally any scoop he wanted and make a mint. After all, not everybody had superhero connections like Darryl Starre and Joan Dillon.

That being said, he was not above using his powers to help him get info he needed. He just made sure to put anything online or published as himself, not Shade's personal reporter. In fact, Shade never stuck around to talk to the press as a rule, much less the cops. That is, until now.

"A virus AND a nuke!? Anyone ever heard of overkill?" David said after reading the horrible news on Shade's phone. He finished his sandwich, looked at himself in the mirror as he liked to do before...putting on his 'outfit'.

David flipped the light switch, and the room went dark. Then it went very, VERY dark...and Shade flipped the switch back on. The clearly inhuman form standing where the very normal David had been.

Shade looked at himself in the mirror, his now bizarre reflection looking back. "Time to go to work!" He said in his now static-like voice. He flowed downward into the blob of shadow his new body seemed to form out of. Transporting himself to the Crusader Tower.

Shadow Strike had been a shadowy vigilante, fighting crime where the police wouldn't or couldn't. He tried to stay out of the way of the police and the Crusaders, but when the Crusader's went missing he just couldn't stand by and not do anything. A few days ago he'd contacted the police and offered his services. The response had been a secured smartphone. The one that now displayed the ominous message displayed in cheery color, along with an invitation to come to the new Metahuman office at Police Headquarters. He hesitated for only a moment, then walked out of his office and addressed his secretary. "Something's come up and I have to take a few days off. Er, 'Family business'. Can you clear my calendar for, say, the next week? Thanks!" With that he headed out of the office. A short trip home to change out of his suit and then he was off to Police Headquarters.

Shadow Strike paused on the roof of the building across the street from the Police Headquarters and contemplated his next move. Being called in to work on a (literally) life changing terrorist threat was both flattering and terrifying, however his first real challenge would be getting past the receptionist ...

Fortunately, he'd visited Headquarters a couple of times and had a good idea of the layout of the front lobby. A moment to focus and soft "pop" later he was standing in front of the receptionist. She gave out a yelp and jumped back just a bit as 6 foot of masked man appeared out of thin air. He was lean and muscled and wore a midnight blue form-fitting suit that covered him from head to toe, over this was a knee length lightweight jacket of the same color. "I'm sorry to have startled you. Detective Broyko requested to see me right away. The name is Shadow Strike".

Finding the mooring of the Sailfishking is easy. It is also easy to see that the yacht holds a crew of approximately a dozen, all men. There are two other men aboard that do not appear to be part of the crew. Although the crew is normally dressed in tan shirts and trousers with deck shoes, the other two men are seen in different clothing at different times.

From a distance of about two miles up the the docks Drifter will take a stroll along the bottom of the Marina gathering a small amount of flotsam till he is beneath the Sailfishking.

Once there he shifts again so that he could enter the ship cautiously via the spirit plane or as some would call it... Ethereally. poking his face through the bottom of the hull first in an attempt to see if the area was occupied.

Opps he just dropped his flotsam and it had a rather cute boot to boot in it. Such a pity.
Keeping radio silence once at the dock by simply by turning the device turned off.

However the ship is inspected and reconnoitered, the only thing you'll see is the crew doing routine maintenance. The two other men on the ship do different things. One of them is seen on deck once in awhile talking on his cell. The other, when he does emerge, is wearing clerical clothing that appears to be a sort of hooded cassock. Usually, he speaks to a crew member or two then returns below decks.

The man with the cell phone comes above deck, and is walking around talking on the phone. It is just after noon, so maybe he's ordering lunch. In any case, it is obvious that this man provides some sort of security as he is armed. His clothing is all black, and as soon as he comes into the sunlight he adds dark aviator sunglasses to his outfit. Every other person you see aboard appears to be unarmed, and engaged in maintenance or cleaning of the vessel, with the exception of the robed person.

The pizza is delivered, and the crew is fed. A few crew members leave in a van, returning in an hour or so and packing numerous boxes onto the ship. A bit later, a small truck with a tank and some of the crew drag a hose from the tank to the ship. Several crew members seem to be engaged in checking the status of an elaborate radar/sonar system with projectors and detectors in numerous places around the ship. As the sun sets, the yacht is clean and sparkling. A few of the crew leave the yacht, no longer wearing what is apparently a shipboard uniform.

Re: Various Locations - Currently "Long Island Sound Marina"

The clipboards contain crew assignments, by first name. They cover every station and appear to be for a twenty-four hour period starting tomorrow morning. The only point of interest is that one of the stations is listed as foil control. There appears to be nothing else of interest on the clipboards.
Darryl is allowed the run of the ship, although he finds himself tiptoeing through the sleeping quarters (some of the crew are sleeping, perhaps because they have late night watches to stand).

There appear to be no hidden compartments, although there is a machinery space beneath the sleeping quarters that seems large enough to hold machinery almost as substantial as the engines. There is an access panel in the engine compartment that should lead to the space, with the words "HYDROFOIL ACCESS" stenciled on it.
When Darryl notices the space, the captain says, "oh, yes. We're very fast, and the ship doesn't rock nearly as much as you would think. Pretty much everything on board, including the foils, was designed by one of the church's disciples then built by church members. Father Kinkaid prides himself on using only the resources he is certain belong to the church."

Borrowing the clipboards from left to right for a minute, Drifter takes them for a trip to the Police station to get photocopies of them in order that he may return them in the exact order  they belong.  Hmm may take two copies so the Police can have one to work with.

Darryl looks surprised. "You actually have a genius who designed a hydrofoil mode for a ship this size? I would have thought the inverse-square law would preclude any vessel over 8 tons to possess that capability. I hope you submit the man's name for an award ..that kind of scientific genius deserves recognition. May I see this marvel of engineering? How do you generate enough power to do it?"

OOC: Shadow Strike will stay in hiding, watching the SailFishKing. If there seems be any signs of trouble, if the boat suddenly decides to leave the marina, or if Darryl Starr isn't seen for a while, he will attempt to teleport aboard the boat (attempting to do so clandestinely, of course).

OOC: Also, my understanding from an earlier post is that it is after dark at the moment?

Having led Darryl through most of the ship, the captain asks, "is there anything else you'd like to see?"

As the captain leads Darryl towards the main deck, the two are joined by an obvious non-member of the crew. He is clad in black jeans and a black t-shirt, and wears mirrored sunglasses despite the fact that he's below decks. After a curt nod to Darryl, the man begins to address the captain, "Pardon me, captain, but I've received a message from Father Kinkaid suggesting we might face a threat. We should clear the boat of visitors and re-check the crew as they return. We may have a long night ahead of us."

Since the biggest story in the wind right now is the terrorist attack by a group called the Force, I figured this might be connected. But for the life of me, I can't see how. As the sailors return, Darryl asks a few questions of each of them. The extent of the information he turns up is:
  • To a man, the crew members claim to have been living unsavory, self-destructive lives before meeting Father Kinkaid.
  • The men are paid next to nothing, however, the church supplies room, board, and uniforms. None of them complain about it.
  • The boat leaves in the morning, but all they know about the destination is that it's to the south.

Re: Various Locations - Currently "Central City Docks"

Place: Mexico City, Mexico
Time: T-48hrs (48 hours ago)

Franks phone buzzed, needing attention. He was about to board a flight home to Central City for some well deserved R&R. Taking down Jose “Brick Hitter” Javes’ drug operation from the inside had take years. Years of hard work and patience finally paid off when they were all arrested and sent to a Mexican Prison. For Frank the whole thing was just a show, the CIA pulled him through back channels, faking his death in a cell (hanging this time, nice that they used an old stage magic trick to keep his neck in tact) and setting him up in Mexico City for a few weeks as a tourist before he hopped on a plane back home. He had not actually been in Mexico City but for a few hours, but hotel receipts, car rentals, even phone messages said otherwise. The CIA was very thorough. He took out his phone and found an email, it looked like Junk but the subject line - “Hey DevilDog, how about a vacation to Central City” told him his handler was on the other end. Encoded in the message was a web address for a document drop box service that destroyed the files once they were read, run by the agency of course. Frank went to the site, and read the file. It was a brief on a nuclear terrorist threat that had been bumped up from yellow to red threat level and demanded agency participation. It also said that the “spandex crowd” was already in on it, so he would have to go in as Ghost Dancer.

Place: Central City, Continental Inn and Suites
Time: T- 20 hours

After arriving at Central City International Airport, Frank had gone to a prearranged location, a bus station near the airport, and used a key he found under his seat on the plane to unlock it. Inside was a duffle bag containing his gear - weapons, face paint and other things he needed for the Dance, and documents containing the sum of the information the CIA had on this terrorist group, which was very very thin. He familiarised himself with it over a glass of Cognak. After that he checked his gear, and called down to the front desk of the Continental Inn and Suites for a wake up call and a motorcycle to be placed on his account with the Agency. After that he got some sleep.

Place: Central City Docks
Time: Current

Eight hours ago Frank had met with Central City’s Super Human Liason. He was a nice guy doing a good job at something most Policeman probably shied away from. Frank Appreciated th man’s thoroughness. Frank had provided Identification, and since he was in “costume” that was important. Frank’s Costumes was his nromal 3 piece suite with an additional layer of armor which was disguised as the suite’s vest, and a blank mask that looked like a black piece of cloth, but he could see through on his end because of a set of goggles. The only other addition was a pair of weighted fighting gloves. The Liason Contact had been very helpful once Franks Idenity as Ghost Dancer was confirmed, and the man sent him to the Central City Docks where some of the heroes were known to be. Although most of the heroes appeared to be absent, Darryl Starre (a local reporter known to cover the spandex set) was on the docks, so Frank introduced himself, ”Hi there, I’m Ghost Dancer but my friends call me Frank.” He put his hand out for any/everyone to shake.

”I apologize, the Police Liason brought me up to speed on what he knew but I can't seem to find anyone else, but the robotic dog said they'd be here. Can someone fill me in on the highlights?”

Between the new police liaison and several contacts among the group, it's easy to access and view the dock's security feed.
It turns out the boat hasn't been there long. When it first arrives, shortly after it's secured to the dock, Father Kinkaid (recognized because as a public figure his picture is in many internet locations) walks off the boat. He has a short discussion with the security man and the robed figure before he walks off.
The only other incident of note is as the security person drags an individual off the boat and hands him off to the police. This is mostly notable because there's no indication of how the individual got ON the boat.
Other than a more precise date and time for the boat's departure (the next day at 9:00 am), no information comes to light.

Darryl asks crew and captain if there had been any security concerns since they had docked. Perhaps something that might be connected to Force that the crew wouldn't connect. If he can, he asks to the the Ship's captain, and asks if a visual inspection of the hull had been performed. If the Force was targeting the good Father, such a device might have been attached.

He should not approach a wolverine unless the animal has been anesthetized. I have seen such creatures make a large bear back off with their ferocity.” Then he talked about visiting happy days. Frank thought everyone wanted to have such days. Then someone called the Fonze...”Is this Fonze you speak of your deity?”

Finally they arrived at a subject he was familiar with, clandestine operations. Of course no sooner had he spoken of such things than he divereted to other subjects, which seemed to involve mechanics from Missouri. ”Are these mechanics from Missouri involved in illegal activities?” And then there was yet another change of subject. Frank was beginning to feel dizzy, ”Star Wars? Is this a theatrical production or a radio drama perhaps? Like War of the Worlds?”

In reply to The Great Karnac (msg # 120):

The Indian camp is built in some light Beech woodlands at the foot of some hills. A placid lake rests nearby, far enough away to avoid flooding but close enough for easy access.  Its still surface broken only by a canoe of Native fishermen or two.

The scenery is quite breath taking to many, as it has been said by others before "Indians can sure pick their camp sites". The Sun rests high in the sky and a number of women can be seen preforming various domestic tasks, children can be seen playing at wrestling or in some kind of team game with no apparent solidity to who is on who's team. A game that involves a lot of running back and forth.  The work and games stop as Drifter hails the camp as all eyes within our sight turn to view our intrusion. Only a few men are in sight and they seem to be elders.

Re: Various Locations - Currently "Long Island Sound Marina"

Frank looked at the man who called himself Drifter, and the next moment they were - somewhere else. He yanked his hand back as he looked around. A forest he did not recognize, a group of First Nation People gathered around huts, this was more like the way his Grandfather spoke about the way things were when he was a child. There was also something very fake about it. He couldn’t exactly put his finger on it, but it was like the whole thing was too perfect.  Drifter spoke to him and he was confused, ”I do not understand. Is your Fonze Diety here? You should know, I worship the Jesus of the Bible, and I think perhaps your Fonze might be offended by me. Why are we here? What is it you wish me to do?”

In reply to Ghost Dancer (msg # 122):

A little let down Drifter chortles a little at the idea that Fonzi is a Deity but trying not to. With a gasp at the idea Drifter tries to explain.

"No Ghost Dancer this is not Happy Days and The Fonze was never a Deity he was just an Ultra Cool Biker.  This is Buffalo Dance, it was created in 1894 as a black and white film but it did have actual Indians in it.  That is why I chose this reality.  Of course now being real it is not black and white and as the film was only 16 seconds long so we really do not have to worry about ruining a plot or anything. Though I do not really know how long we can stay. Things currently being the way they are in what I call TriCverse.

You see I sorta can go into any Movie, TV show, Story or Book that has enough Psychic resonance or residue, meaning enough people who dream about being there to give the idea real form and life in the Multiverse.  Well that is at least one way to describe it.

Buffalo Dance is an 1894 American 16-second black-and-white silent film shot in
Thomas Edison's Black Maria studio. The film was made at the same time as Edison's Sioux Ghost Dance. It is one of the earliest films made featuring Native Americans.  That is why I thought of bringing you here. I could have taken you to Edison's version of Indian life but the name Buffalo Dance influenced my choice. Ghost Dancer, Buffalo Dance you see?

Don't you like it?  Would you rather go back to what I call TriCverse?
I don't often give people free dimensional trips to other places you know."

Frank watched the dancers and made a few comments, ”This is not actually the Buffalo Dance, it is close but they are leaving a few things out. I appreciate the sentiment,” he put out his hand for the return trip, ”But even if I did want too, they would not accept me. I am a half breed, they would be offended by my mere presence.”

As they returned to the normal time/space continuum Frank made one more observation, ”The Grat Spirit and God the Father are one in the same. It really would have been a much easier thing for my people to understand if White Men had come with love and not with guns. The past is behind us, let us concentrate on the now.” Drifter began talking to the others and Frank simply stood by, letting him do so.

True to the schedules Drifter had retrieved, the crew begins to arrive at five am. Each member is greeted, on the dock, by the security man previously seen. Before the crew is allowed on-board, security uses a retinal scan to verify their identity.
Promptly at 9:15 am on a bright, sunny day. The Sailfishking pulls away from the dock and heads to sea.

Using his cellphone he contacted someone he had worked with in the Coast Guard drug interdiction program. He gave them the yacht’s registration and name (on the boat always if docked in the US) where it is making berth, and that it contains suspicious cargo. That should be enough to get them stopped and searched at least once.

Prior to the Sailfishking exiting the harbor, it slows and a coast guard launch pulls alongside. Two Coasties board, talk to the captain, go below decks, then leave. In attempting to fly in for a closer look, NightHawk is forced to leave the clouds that he has been using to shield himself from the sun. Simultaneous to him doing so, the men talking on the deck of the boat look to the cabin, and one of the sailors directs them to look skyward towards NightHawk. All three of the men shrug, but then the security man waves at the man in the cloak. It appears he is suggesting the man check out the sky. The hooded cloak is tossed off, and a seven foot tall werecicada takes to the air in NightHawk's direction. Nothing indicates that any of the men have seen NightHawk, and the boat is still half a kilometer from NightHawk.

As NightHawk's claws scrape at Cicada's carapace, it sounds like a football team scraping their fingernails on a chalk board. Cicada flits 10m straight up, then sneers back at NightHawk. I've got NightHawk's claw attack as 3½d6 with STR (increased STUN multiplier changes the number of DC's per die). Cicada has damage negation that reduces the attack to 3d6.
Dropping the last die rolled yields 11 BODY and 44 STUN.

As NightHawk rips a substantial hole in the hull, Mr. Magnum steps up to the bow and tosses a small ball at the flying bird man. As he prepares to come about, the small ball reaches NightHawk's location and goes off in a manner similar to an air bag. The resultant blob of tarry foam engulfs NightHawk, who drops into the water, unable to flap his wings.
Cicada zips down to the floating blob and tosses it to the deck of the boat, while several of the crew head down and forward to shore up the holes in the hull. Magnum covers NightHawk, pointing yet another gun at the creature. Cicada is cleaning the goo from his hands. The Captain and crew are cleaning up and patching holes. A portal opens just above and dead center to the yacht, and Drifter emerges, with backup.

Shadow Strike slams kicks into two crewmen. One is knocked back into a third crewmen, who, rather than move, allows the struck fellow to bounce off him. That crew member is on the deck, attempting to stand. The other is slammed into the bulkhead, then falls to the deck and lays still.
The crewmen begin to organize, attempting to use the boat as cover and continue shooting at the intruders. Despite their terrain advantage, the boat's crew are more competent seaman than gangsters. No one is hit as they fire (mostly) blindly at the intruders.
Cicada flies down to stand on the other hydrofoil, awaiting NightHawk.

with ranged weapons, his OCV is 11, the base number for attacking is also 11, finding the DCV hit is done by adding OCV to the base number and subtracting a 3d6 roll, as a courtesy I rolled this for Ghost Dancer and the 3d6 came up as 1,1,1
which I will now call 'critical' and state it is automatically armor piercing (half defenses) unaffected by hardened defenses, in addition the weapon in question is 1d6+1 killing (he rolled 6, therefore 7 BODY damage), he rolled three as his STUN mod therefore 21 STUN

I’m attempting to intimidate them, what so I roll? As a bonus I mean?

GM:
This is a presence attack, and takes no time. If the villains don't surrender, you could continue to shoot at them this phase. The modifiers to the presence attack are:
-1d6 In combat
-2d6 Strong Psychological Complication
+1d6 Exhibiting a Power or superior technology
+1d6 Violent action
which is a total of -1d6
Presence is 15, which is a 3d6 base presence attack, modified to a 2d6.
Rather than roll, you get maximum effect (to speed things up) and start with a twelve.
This equals the target's PRE, therefore they will hesitate acting in their next phase. They have no other reaction.
Because they didn't surrender, you could go on shooting them.

Ghost Dancer shoots again. This time the bullet strikes the crewman directly between his eyes. The crewman's head snaps back, while his eyeballs remain stationary. When the crewman raises his head, his eyes are hanging by copper wire. The crewman starts to feel around him with his left hand while he continues to point his pistol with his right.
Shadow Strike kicks another crewman, the latter is knocked off his feet and begins to spin "Curly circles"* on the deck.
Cicada rises from beneath the deck level, just off the port side (directly in front of NightHawk. A large 'boom box' (battery operated CD player with large attached speakers) is clutched in his hands and held above his head. As Wagner's Walkürenritt begins to sound from the machine, Cicada rolls his eyes and takes one hand from the CD player to point first at the ghetto blaster, and then down to the man held tightly between Cicada's ankles.

Re: Various Locations - Currently 45 minutes out to sea

NightHawk's claw cuts at Mr. Magnum's weapon, but finds Mr. Magnum's force field protecting it. Although the weapon is knocked aside, it isn't damaged.
Cicada swoops down and retrieves the head before it's lost at sea, and tosses said item into the lap of the headless android (it's definitely obvious, at this point) it came from.
Mr. Magnum, angry at NightHawk after the latter struck at his weapon, throws an ill-advised punch at the werebeast. Despite Magnum's training and the advantages he receives from his force field, he misses.
At this point, fully half of the android crewmen are not functional. Cicada has been avoiding most of the fighting, and is obviously watching NightHawk. Mr. Magnum has shown himself to be ineffective, but refuses to quit.

Re: Various Locations - Currently 45 minutes out to sea

Mr. Magnum tries to maneuver around NightHawk so that Ghost Dancer would have to shoot through the birdman. Although Ghost Dancer fails to hit him, Magnum's dodge lead him right into NightHawk's claw attack and the soldier goes down to the deck, kneeling on all fours.
Shadow Strike sweeps another leg, and another crew member begins to run curly circles*.
The remaining six crew members, probably aghast at seeing one of their peer's heads kicked right off the body, aim at Shadow Strike and fire their handguns.
As Mr. Magnum begins to struggle to his feet, Cicada swoops in and grabs him, lifting him out and away from the yacht. Before anyone can react the two are 30m away and heading off in the same direction the yacht was going.

Although the controls are clearly labeled, and the wheelhouse contains a typical wheel, forward of the standard arrangement is a sort of driver's seat before a butterfly steering wheel. In addition to the standard compass, a HUD is projected on the windscreen. In addition to this high tech assemblage, a clipboard with a single piece of paper hangs on a hook by the wheel. On the paper is a set of coordinates (latitude and longitude) and the statement "Transmit signal at ETA minus 10".

OOC: operating the yacht is possible, every maneuver will require a skill roll (unskilled attempts start at six or less to succeed before difficulty modifiers)
there is a radio satellite array, so communications to shore are possible if someone has the skill

It is a small matter for the Westworld technicians to repair the damaged units. In the process, they indicate how impressed they are with the werehawk unit you've brought with you. Before reactivating the units, the technicians make a few notes on the motivational circuit which are not what they're used to seeing. Perhaps they'll incorporate these into some of their more important models.
The reset androids are compliant and non-violent, but also devoid of memory or personality. When you return to the vessel, the androids return to their basic functions and begin repairing the other androids and the boat. They answer all questions truthfully, mechanically, and without exposing any new information.

I think it is considered polite to say something like breaker breaker your name,  then say your piece then say over and I just mean that one word  to let others know you have stopped talking for the moment.  When you have finished and plan to end the call say something like over and out.   But I only know what I have seen in movies and other alternate realities."

Shade moves within the ground, and then flows through the dirt and into the walls of the hotel. Still in a pure energy state, the solid objects all around him should allow him to proceed unseen, while he can see and hear through the shadows-checking on the local area for anything unusual or threating. Also trying not to snoop on people's private lives as much as possible.

Re: Various Locations - The Hotel Cairo

Professor Michael Robinson arrives to greet the arriving heroes at Hotel Cairo. He is an elderly man who has studied Egyptian cultures all of his adult life. "A few days ago, I uncovered something that would put my name in every Egyptology text book published for the rest of time. I found a tablet upon which were some ancient hieroglyphics. It appeared to have been purposefully defaced, as if to hide what was on it, but I could make out the forms of men carrying the huge blocks from which the pyramids were built. I've begun developing a theory that the pyramids were built through the labor of exceptionally strong people, like yourselves!"

The professor goes on to explain the lack of evidence for his theory to the fact that someone or some group of people obviously tried to destroy all records of such a fact. As an example, he cites the fact that it appears as if someone had tried to destroy the hieroglyphics which he has recently uncovered.

Professor Robinson would like for the heroes to be with him at the time that he presents his theory to the gamut of Egyptian scholars in a few days. He feels that the heroes’ own personal powers will lend credence to his theory. Even better would be if one of the heroes has super-strength himself. Next best would be if the heroes have fought a well known villain with super-strength.

Professor Robinson explains that the meeting is in two more days. He informs them that he has some more preparation which must be made, but he welcomes the heroes to have a look around and enjoy the sites/sights in the meantime. Professor Robinson will also mention that the curator of the Cairo Museum, once he heard that the heroes were coming for a visit, offered to give them a personally guided tour of the museum. Professor Robinson suggests that they accept the offer, for, he notes, there are few who know as much as Manuel (the curator) about Egyptian culture. Professor Robinson would like to meet back at the hotel at 9:00 AM two days later.

"I'd love to take the tour and I'll be there. I fear I do not have superstrength though. My powers are cold/ice control/generation and vibration control/generation. Now on the Crusher team F.I.S.T., Bull and Shrew all possessed strength well beyond that of ordinary men. F.I.S.T.'s strength was derived from his powered armor. Bull and Shrew both had the power naturally. Bull was the strongest of them all, oh man he hates the color red. It makes him become enraged," Blizzard spouted off.

"Pleasure meeting you, Cave Crusader. I suspect your specialized talents will come in handy for interior stone hallways, and I will be glad to have you around." He glanced around. "Anyhow, bonjour et au revoir, for now at least. I'm going to talk to Manuel and see if he knows something I should know."

He had to keep in mind that he was not Tex right now. It was tempting to get into character here. He did know that Manuel was not local - he was foreign, probably Moorish, based off the name.

Re: Various Locations - The Hotel Cairo

Doctor Manuel shows up as soon as the heroes get to the museum. He happily begins a private tour for the heroes. Nothing seems amiss as the doctor leads them through the displays. Till they reach a room with bronze weapons under glass on pedestals. Doctor Manuel says, “When they were led by the right leader, the Egyptians could be an awesome military force. But, no leader, no matter how skilled, could have saved the Egyptians from the fact that eventually meant the end of the might of their military…"
"The Egyptians had no iron reserves. Only the Hittites knew the secret of iron production. Therefore, the Egyptians could not furnish their troops with iron weapons as their Hittite rivals of this period could…"

Pointing to a row of bronze weapons inside a display case, the doctor continues, "As you can see here, the Egyptians used only bronze weapons. They only learned the making of bronze from the Hyksos, central Asian invaders who had conquered most of Egypt, ending the Middle Kingdom, with the New Kingdom beginning with the expulsion of these invaders. It was also from the Hyksos that the Egyptians learned of better bows, chariots and horses."
At this precise moment the bronze weapons transform into ones made of iron and Doctor Manuel continues speaking without apparently noticing anything. "So, once they had iron weapons, the ancient Egyptians became an almost unstoppable military force!"

In reply to Darryl Starre (msg # 319):

"To be frank Master Starre! I am not worried about a theory as it is just that a theory. Black Holes, The sinking of Atlantis (when we have seen in person that one version of that story the city was submerged not sunk and on a totally different planet in the Pegasus galaxy... if I got my reference right.  Theories are just a lot of possibilities that might have some actual merit.

I am not even worried that there might be some entities manipulating things in the background.

Governments do it often and the only time the population worry is if things start to inconvenience them.  But that is what we have the Media for... to show us common people what is in the works.  However a road trip is a road trip and well as KO has pointed out we are in a tourist area.  We could make the best of it and get to know a little about Cave Crusader the newest member to this rag tag group of unusual individuals."

The city hasn't changed, much. There is a bit more architecture with a pyramidal scheme, formerly unadorned columns are now structural statuary. There are signs, in many places, indicating Cairo is the capital of the Egyptian Hegemony.
Other than that, it's pretty much the same as it was before you entered the museum.

"Oui. That would be appreciated, Monsieur Shade. And try to stay low. I am actually more concerned about fellow heroics being misguided." Stuntman had to admit to himself that the "quick solution" had crossed his mind. Acting on that, of course, would be an admission that he could not roll with a group of real superheroes - an inability to keep a promise.

Besides, it was too early to dramatically break that promise. They had just met. Also, he didn't think Manuel was malicious - merely dangerous. More like a tiger walking down the sidewalk than a tiger stalking people in the bushes; potential danger as opposed to active danger.

He gave his firearms a quick glance inside his duster. He was hoping they hadn't been turned into crossbows or something. "My fellows, this is not ideas being true. This is ideas being made true. This is different. Manuel might be more terrifying then he realizes. Did anyone else catch the change to his voice?"

Shade vanishes and returns shortly with the said information. Shade had seen Ciro the before the change, and any obvious differences would be noticed. Any place he had used shadow senses would show him thier differences.

"So...what if the whole world has changed? I mean...is this limited to Ciro or is this a whole Back to the Future situation with Biff in charge of everything? I can quickly check back home as well..."

Blizzard still believed it was most likely someone had messed with time. Given the new prominence of Egypt in the modern era it had to be someone with at least nominal ties to Egypt. Someone that would have benefited. Perhaps a descendant of the Pharoahs or a High Priest. Still he didn't know enough about such people to know who had the power to enact such a change.

He suggested to the others, "Perhaps we should seek out a bookstore and get a modern map and perhaps some books on history? That way we might could narrow down what's happened, as the change would likely occur when the history there deviates from our history."

Stuntman rolled his eyes. He hated indecision. He knew the situation was dangerous, he knew how it was dangerous, and he knew something needed to be done.

"Perhaps we could ask Monsieur Manuel who taught him so much about history. Perhaps that would provide some insights. In fact, while all of you are trying to figure out la dévastation de la campagne," He sighed. He was speaking French in an non-French land. This was not Moracco or Algeria. "Why everything is gone. It doesn't matter. These things happen. Usually its a scientist, or a supremacist, or a god, or an insane AI. You can debate. I'll be talking to Manuel."

He still had to make sure he didn't make Manuel realize he could potentially kill them all, though. He walked over, and proceed to ask Manuel exactly what he said they should ask:

"Who taught you so much about history?"

    Current status
    • Meteoritic Iron
    • Doctor Manuel explains that the weapons on display weren't made from meteoritic iron
    • the ore for the weapons had to have been mined from some lost mine
    • it's not uncommon for scholars to make fruitless excursions into the Sahara believing the mine to be there, covered in sand
    • Temporal Physics is a shallow, some say meaningless, field of study
    • no one knows any specialists, not even Darryl Starre
    • those with doctorates in physics know a little about it
    • Drifter could detect dimensional shifts, the changes are not
    • Media contacts
    • other than being asked why he's interested in the first country continent the media contact doesn't give anyone any new information
    • Maps
    • modern maps show the entire continent of Africa as The Egyptian Hegemony
    • the United States includes the Baha California Peninsula, Sonora, and Chihuahua
    • History
    • Egypt does not decline and there is an Egyptian representative at most historically important events
    • the American Civil War lasted twenty-five years, mostly due to the Egyptian Hegemony's support of the Confederate States, the dissolution of the Confederacy dealt a severe economic blow to Egypt
    • the United States was deliberately isolationist till World War I as they recovered from this exercise in self-immolation
    • after Archduke Franz Ferdinand's assassination, Egyptian forces bolstered the ranks of their German allies for a short time, more of the Egyptian forces were felled by weather than by bullets
    • when the American forces entered the World War I battlefield, they terrified the fighting men on both sides, after a generation of killing each other the American people had developed a focus on martial art (not the martial arts) second to none
    • after the war, while Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald built their legends in Paris, Roger Wayne Forsythe and Donner Weehawken scandalized their way through Cairo
    • the blatant racism of the Third Reich gained them the implacable enmity of the Egyptian Hegemony, there appear to have been fewer victories for the German military than you remember
    • the war in the Pacific is little changed
    • Doctor Manuel
    • received his bachelor's degree in history, focused on the African sub-continent from the University of Cairo

"Well I'm no history buff but I'm pretty sure the Civil War didn't last 25 years in our time," Blizzard said as they gathered information, "What it last 4-5 years then Reconstruction another decade or so, so the fighting went on way to long here. I'm surprised Johnson and Davis wouldn't have sought a peace long before so long a war. I mean I think this is worse than Turtledove's Southern Victory series in our timeline. Egypt never diminishing in power means the real change might be the lack of a Roman Empire, or at least one that never controlled all the Mediterranean. So history diverged centuries before the Americas were ever discovered by Europeans, fascinating."

Stuntman did everything he could to keep his eyes from glazing over from Manuel's gleeful description of his life's story. He had asked for it - and he got it, both barrels of it. It explained a lot, actually.

"Oui, oui, but your colleague's theories on ancient history - our raison d'etre relative to this, if you will. Were you around when they dug them up?" This was the real meat of Stuntman's questioning, and he was really hoping that what he had just endured to get it was going to be worth it.

I wonder if Sonic or a Kryptonian would agree to help?  Hey KO do you think you could sweet talk an alien powerhouse into lending a hand?  I do not think it would even be realistically possible as his world of Kryptonverse is just as beset with trouble as this one is.

Dr Manuel you don't just happen to have an arch of the covenant or Retaliator or Durandal or Excalibur or any such ancient legendary device gathering dust in some storage niche at the moment?"

He reminded himself to shoot only to wound. Even if they were trying to create a future where...

Actually, elements of this might have been pretty good for France. A shortened World War would mean that incompetent generals got fewer brave men killed and perhaps the UK never existed because they couldn't control the Suez strait. Maybe France filled in the Euro power vacuum without the Ottoman Empire-

Actually, the thought gave him a headache. Just too much to consider. No, it is bad, all bad, and those doing it are bad guys in need of being shot.

He hadn't drawn his weapons yet, though. He wanted to see what he was dealing with first.

He listened for the noise. Silence - or labor? If there was labor, that didn't mean that this place wasn't dangerous. It could be a front.

Silence meant this place was certainly a trap. He grinned at the thought. He understood both sides of a trap, and both were fun to deal with.
