The Mercury-class Battlestar is a class of Battlestar used by the Colonial Fleet. It came into use sometime after the First Cylon War and before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies and resulting Second Cylon War and represents the newest class of Battlestar in the Fleet.

This class of Battlestar is arguably the most powerful type of military vessel belonging to the Colonial Fleet and holds a crew compliment of 2500, far less then other ships due to the large amount of automation employed. It measures
5,872 feet from bow to stern.

Its airwing is comprised of 200 Mark VII Vipers organised into 20 squadrons of 10 Vipers each with two Raptors per squadron for a total of 40 Raptors. The airwings are organised and launched from the non-retractable port and starboard flight pods.

The Mercury Class has in situ fabrication facilities and can make ammo, vipers and raptors as well as perform extensive repairs.

Ships of this class have 8 main rearwards-facing sub-light engines attached to their outer hull at the stern of the ship, four each on its dorsal and ventral surfaces, as well as having at least two FTL drives in sync for faster-than-light travel. Smaller manoeuvering thrusters are also scattered in various places throughout the ship to allow for high maneuverability in combat scenarios, including two large bow-mounted forward facing thrusters.

The Mercury-class is heavily armourmed and able to withstand multiple high-yield nuclear strikes as well as conventional ordinance.

The Mercury-class armament includes:

34x primary batteries (30x twin turrets, 4x fixed twin mounts bow-mounted and facing forward)

Numerous point-defence cannons to send out a continuous, rapid-fire, flak generating anti-ordinance and anti-aircraft cloud.

16 Missile tubes (four bow mounted forward facing, four port, four starboard, two dorsal, two ventral) capable of firing conventional and nuclear armed missiles.

The class uses ECM for offence and defence.
