Slang. Terms, Nomenclature, etc. Unique to the Setting

The Colonial Military has its own set of slang, and terms that will help with immersion into the setting.

Frak - is used like its four letter couterpoint with as many uses. It can be a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb.

CAP - Combat Air Patrol: is a group of viper that fly in front of the Battlestar looking for any kind of threat.

CAG; Commander Air Group: A Captain in charge of a Battlestars Air Wing.

Wilco: Military radio speak for 'message received and will comply'. Note this embodies the definition of 'roger' and therefore you do NOT use 'roger' and 'wilco' together.

Bingo: Bingo Fuel is military slang for the minimum fuel required for a comfortable and safe return to the Battlestar

DRADIS: "Direction, Range, and Distance". Colonial equivalent of radar.

Krypter! - distress call equivalent to "MayDay". Usually repeated in quick succession: "Krypter! Krypter! Krypter!".

"So say we all" - Used as a ceremonial affirmation.

Response to unknown or hostile contacts is broadcast throughout the ship with "Action Stations, Set Condition One throughout the ship." This command sends all hands to their actions stations, alerts the deck crews to prepare to launch Vipers and sends the Alert Vipers (the squadron on standby) to the hangars to be launched at a moment's notice.

Sitrep - Situation Report.

Condition Three - Normal ship operations and watch schedules.

Condition Two - Heightened sense of readiness aboard the ship. Ready for things to go to...

...Condition One - Hostiles inbound. All hands reporting to their action stations. Alert vipers ready to launch. Defensive batteries on stand by.

Andromeda Actual - The radio ID of the Pegasus Commander

CBDR - Constant Bearing, Decreasing Range - hostile is inbound and likely making a suicide run.

Carom - term used in conjunction with a DRADIS contact read; analogous to the term "mark".

Sierra Alpha - suspicious activity.

Knuckle-dragger - slang term for enlisted personnel. Roughly equivalent to the Earth military slang "grunt", it can be taken as a somewhat snobbish pejorative when used by an officer, but many NCOs use the term with a touch of pride.

Nugget - nickname given to trainee pilots.

Rook - nickname given to new pilots.

Rain - The sound of the metal scrap hitting fighter in space after combat. "What do you hear, Starbuck? Nothing but the rain!"

CIC: Combat Information Center, the nerve center or "bridge" of a battlestar.
