Re: OOC

I'm okay with them not being public. Keeps everyone guessing and doesn't let the first place folks get too cocky.

In reply to Caitriona (msg # 136):

Agreed, I'm ok with the ranks not being public, unless there's situations where someone is a total runaway who leaves everyone else far enough behind that it would be obvious.

Re: OOC

While I don't want my ranking made public, we should maybe get an idea of the echelons of the family...  The best Warfare are training the lesser after all, and I'm pretty sure that both Erica and Cador are upper echelons in warfare...  Similarly, for Strength... assuming we are all obligated to learn to fight without weapons at some point... We know who the teachers are, and who is in our 'class'.

I'd suggest that if we do go 'public', it be through a system of Newb, Basic, Intermediary, and Advanced, broken by Less-Than Amber, Less than 25, less than 50, greater than 50.  (unless nobody has above 50, then some similar ranking, as I suppose nobody would take above 50 in Endurance... for example, so < Amber, < 10, < 25, > 25)

Just a suggestion...

Re: OOC

Maybe it would be good enough to just say who the top two or three and bottom two or three are for each stat, or some such thing?  And then everyone else is just "somewhere in the middle."  Keep it simple, y'know?  :)

That will be up Narrator ultimately. It may be something that we are meant to find out during game play.

Re: OOC

I'd actually vote against that.   Unlike traditional Amber we've not had the chance to compare ourselves vs each other.  I'd prefer working elements into my backstory to show who won specific event conflicts and base my opinions on those.  But I'll go with whatever the GM decides :-)

Re: OOC

But, haven't we though?  You've been my sister for 16 years, do I not know that you're better or worse than me with a sword?  Have we not been training for most of those 16 years with/against each other?  Or do we all train separately, from tutors behind closed doors?

I agree with Branwen... we should maybe know who are 'best' are in the stats, who has walked the Pattern, etc... that is just stuff we should thematically be aware of.  It seems so out of character to not know which of my siblings would have been training me, or that effortlessly snatch my sword from my hand in a fight (assuming any of you could, of course).

Re: OOC

Whatever the decision might be regarding knowledge of ranks and so forth, on a purely IC level, Branwen would never have bothered concealing her aptitudes or shortcomings from her siblings.  She's just abysmal at both STR and WAR, probably somewhere in the undifferentiated middle of the pack in END, and can likely at least hold her own in PSY.

Re: OOC

If players want to confide to one another, that's a different kettle of fish but Narrator has no obligation to divulge stats to everyone.

If you want to know something about Caitriona, send me a PM and we can work it out. Several of her siblings were likely tutoring her at one time or another, and as twins they would have been close enough to tell, at least so far as in his memories from before Kierahn left 4 years earlier would allow.

All I'm saying is that it's Narrator's call, not ours.

Re: OOC

Well, I think everyone would know that I'm good at everything, though unlikely the best at anything.  I have a positive score in all my stats, but (obviously) a fair share of my points went into Shape Shifting.

Re: OOC

That's good enough info for me. :)

I'm not deficient in any stats either (a fair all-rounder) and everyone would know that Caitriona has spent a lot of her time learning quick magics (Power Words) and can conjure. She's also raring to go on the Pattern, as soon as Dad says it's okay.

She has a sharp mind, has been studying healing since she was quite small and found out that it saved both her and their mother's lives. She also does much in the realm of experimenting and testing out the physics of Avalon for defensive purposes... and at one point to see how far an 8 year old can travel leaping from a swing at top speed.

Re: OOC

Erica isn't as good as one might think because she spends too much time slacking off in Shadow instead of actually honing her skills.

Re: OOC

Tamlin is the average college student of the family. Decent shape, decent in a fight, maybe a little intense. Also a lot of magic skills to bolster his Pattern Imprint.

Re: OOC

I think the kids would have a general sense at least of who specializes in what amongst them. Who's the best fighter, the best magician, that sort of thing. After all, Corwin and Lorraine have been training you kids for years, and when they were unavailable you had the best tutors in Avalon at your disposal.

Re: OOC

No, it’s not wrong, wrong, just not very princessy.  Cador just hoped that Erica might set a “good example” (scare quotes intentional) for Branwen.  If it suits Erica, go for it.
