Re: OOC

Does anyone else spend an inordinate amount of time googling their character's wardrobe, or just me?  :D

Here's the look Branwen will be rocking this afternoon:

Merlin designs Trump-powered supercomputers and Martin shows up with cybernetic implants.  It's not that medieval.  :)

We're not on Earth or Cyberpunk shadows though. We're in Avalon and it IS medieval.

Re: OOC

That stuff all shows up in Amber, though, which I assume is roughly culturally similar to Avalon?  I mean, I guess I might be wrong about that.  But we're playing Amber, a game designed around a family whose power base is the ability to easily travel an infinite multiverse.  And I think I theorized somewhere before, the whole realm is literally sprung fully-formed from the psyche of Corwin, who definitely has some very modern sensibilities mixed into his medievalism.  (Or at least some very 1970's sensibilities.)  A bit of blurring around the edges of cultural purity is pretty much inevitable, I think?

Re: OOC

Amber didn't do much modernization until the Merlin chronicles (which I kind of detest).

One of the constants in Amber, and to what I understand of how Avalon is set up, is that the tech level and attitudes are medieval. The society itself is feudal. It's more than just family to be considered.

Re: OOC

This is from Narrator's description of Avalon...

Narrator:
Most people on Avalon reside in the realm of the same name, which occupies the center of the landmass. The realm of Avalon is medieval in nature, with a lifestyle and level of technology that would seem right at home in Shadow's Earth High Middle Ages. It is very much an idealized take on the Age of Chivalry. Tenant farmers tend the land and grow the food. They are overseen by various lesser nobility from their estates, which are protected by nobles known as knights. These knights and nobles in turn answer to the authority of the Emperor Corwin and his wife, the Empress Lorraine. The realm of Avalon is vast, and to properly govern it, the Imperial Couple has appointed various regional governors who oversee chunks of the realm in the name of the Royal Family.

Re: OOC

Sure, but with the whole ruling family being literal planeswalkers, I'm thinking the reaction to a fairly restrained modern-looking dress wouldn't be like, jawdropped gaping from the stiff-necked clergymen and crowds of ladies-in-waiting fanning at their cheeks lest they swoon from shock.  Everyone knows what we can do, right?  It would just be more like, "Oh look, Princess Branwen's brought something from outside, isn't that interesting."  Like, it would be recognized as anachronistic but not necessarily scandalous.

Or I might be wrong!  In which case, Branwen's just making a spectacle of herself again, which I'm pretty much okay with.  :D

Are people satisfied with the game and it's pace so far? Would people prefer faster or slower posts, or is there any problems I should be made aware of? I want this to be fun for everyone.

Re: OOC

I'm pretty much happy with everything about the game except the pace.  :)  Or to phrase it more enthusiastically, the worst thing I can say about the game is that I wish there was more of it.

Generally a rate of 3-4 post per week feels like a nice steady pace to me, though I acknowledge that's not really feasible for some people with more hectic home lives than mine.  But, 6 and 8 day silences leave me wondering if the game has died.

Re: OOC

The pace is very slow.  I don’t think a lace of less than one post a week is viable.  I found the present-giving a bit frustrating - waiting for a turn and then the scene was suddenly cut short.  The present scene on the other hand could easily be hurried along - unless someone is planning something there really isn’t much to do but go with the flow.

Re: OOC

I agree it's frustratingly slow...  I am much more use to a daily-posting speed.

But that's not what bothers me so much as... there's no plot/adventure (yet).  Currently, it doesn't matter what our sheet says, we're just socializing.  I realize this is likely not intended to last long, that we're setting the scene, so am patient with it, but am hoping soon to spend less time on niceties, and more on the worlds of amber... exploring new places, facing challenges, etc.  If the most we have to look forward to on this current scene, is cheering people on as they fight each other... especially at this 1-post a week pace... meh...

Re: OOC

I’m going to ask here because I think there are others who ought to know something (Marian, certainly)

What do we know about this young knight? His name?  His past record at tournaments?  Is he known for taking advantage of the ladies’ interest in him?  Is there anything else notable?

Re: OOC

Guys... Can you hold up please? :( 1 post, 1 action else we are all running at different speeds.  If you've had a full conversation and then replied to others too while I am waiting on Corwin, it just feels wrong and completely isolates other players (not just me). I know the game is slow, but framing still needs to be kept.

So, Branwen, are you going to go with the i...impetuous Kierahn? Or stay put.  You can keep Caitriona company!

Re: OOC

Question for our glorious Narrator:

Branwen has an idea or two she might want to try in the current situation but I'd like a bit of OOC game mechanical clarification please!

How are you handling Sorcery?  Branwen has Named & Numbered items that each hold Named & Numbered spells, so in theory she could have up to 144 sorceries currently ready to rock.  Are you intending to be strict about specifying ahead of time what magics she can call on?  Or should I feel free to just make stuff up as I go and assume that Branwen was savvy enough to have prepared whatever she needs?

Re: OOC

Then I guess you’d better ask if spell maintenance is an issue, too.  If it is, looking after that many spells might be impractical. (Actually 144 would be impossible, with rules as written, but I’ve never seeen a GM worry about it with only a dozen or so spells hung)

Re: OOC

I'm okay with a dozen or so spells that Branwen could have whipped up ahead of time. I'm not as comfortable with 144 spells. And do remember to maintain them! :)
