Camelot Castle

At the top of the cliff that separates it from Camelot City lies Camelot Castle. The cliff itself is about the size of Ayers' Rock, in Shadow Earth's Australia. At the top, the cliff levels out. Trees and plants grow here in a carefully cultivated forest, starting about two miles back from where the road of the cliff leads to the summit.

At the terminus of the road up the cliff, one finds an entire fortress. The road leads right up to the gate of the fortress, where stern-faced guards check passes and inspect wagons. Past the gate one travels for a couple of miles along a paved road, escorted by royal guards until they reach the forest. There is only the one road, paved in white stones. And the escort doesn't end once you reach the forest. The road travels alongside the Sentinel River until eventually one clears the woods and finds oneself outside the moat of Castle Camelot.

The castle itself is composed of white marble gilded with gold, and rises ten stories into the sky from the island in the middle of the moat. A drawbridge lets a traveler across into the main yard of Castle Camelot. The Castle is extensive, stretching both the skies and beneath the earth. For all the height of the castle, for all it's many floors, much more of it stretches down beneath the cliff in sublayers and basements. The castle is of course, home to the Imperial Family, but it also contains extensive wings of apartments for the servants, garrisons and smithies for the guards, and grand suites for the nobles when Court is in session. There are courtyards and sallies, training grounds, a grand library, kitchens and baths, a full tournament arena, stables, and much more. Each member of the Imperial Family has their own set of apartments within the Imperial wing, and of course, there is the great Throne Room where Emperor Corwin and Empress Lorraine hold Court.

Deep within the cliff itself, concealed in a maze of warrens, lies Avalon's Pattern.
