Nolava

The mirror realm of Avalon, which floats high in the skies above it. The floating continent is itself a place of beauty, with forests that appear to be made of different varieties of clouds rather than wood and leaves. The rivers of Nolava spill over it's sides, creating beautiful waterfalls that sometimes bring deluges to areas of Avalon when the continent passes by overhead. In other respects, the floating continent mirrors the land below though everything appears somewhat distorted, as if one were trying to peer at something through a haze of sun mirages.

Nolava was annexed early on by Emperor Corwin. He never gave a reason beyond wanting to avoid "certain parallels and problems". Nolava's Castle Tolemac, which is composed of platinum and silver, was seized in a midnight raid. Corwin and his forces approached the city by means of giant eagles, hawks, and falcons, which Corwin found in Shadow Cylene and tamed for his purposes. The lightning raid was over in within an hour's time. The King and Queen of Nolava died in the fighting, and Corwin's second-in-command of the raid, Lord Arthur Pendragon, was made Regent, answering to the Emperor and Empress of Avalon. A purge of Nolavan loyalists followed, which eeriely was mirrored by a purge of Avalonian nobles who had hoped to seize power in the Emperor's absence.

To ensure that Nolava remained pacified, Corwin made a decision. As it happened, his firstborn son, Merlin, in the shadowy realm Corwin hails from, conceived a child with a mysterious woman named Coral. That child was left in Corwin's keeping, and he raised the girl alongside his own children. When she came of age, Corwin's granddaughter Oriana was named Queen of Nolava, and partnered in marriage to Arthur to link the two realms on both sides of her heritage.

Castle Tolemac contains a copy of Avalon's Pattern in the carefully-warded Sky Gardens which only Queen Oriana and her family have access to. Travel and trade between Nolava and Avalon occurs regularly by means of the great birds, which have become a permanent feature of life in both realms.
