Damage
When a character takes damage, unless stated otherwise, the damage is subtracted from the Might pool first. If that is at 0, then damage is subtracted from the Speed pool, and then finally from the Intellect pool. Armor counts damage reduction against physical attacks (melee, ranged, esoteries that cause physical damage, etc.)
A character has 4 levels of health:
- Hale – normal, all three stat pools at 1 or higher, with no harmful conditions. If a hale PC takes enough damage to reduce one of his stat Pools to 0, he becomes Impaired.
- Impaired – Effort costs 1 extra point. Ignores minor and major effects results on rolls.
- Debilitated – Cannot take actions other than to move (probably crawl) no more than an immediate distance. If a debilitated character’s Speed pool is 0, he can’t move.
- Dead – is dead.
So you become impaired if your Might Pool goes to 0.
1 Pool at 0 = Impaired
2 Pools at 0 = Debilitated
3 Pools at 0 = Dead
This being Numenera, going Dead doesn't necessarily mean dying. I mean, it's Numenera. There might be artifacts to revive you, locations that could heal you, clone tanks, dimension copies, or maybe you survive after being in a coma, but you have some kind of strange side effect. We'll cross that dimension barrier (and possibly back again) if we get there. :)
