Re: [OOC] Party Discussion

Dealing with some personal stuff. My father is.. not well.

I find I'm lacking the mental energy to post at the moment. He's scheduled for a fairly major surgery in a few weeks.

Oh man, I know how that goes.

I was in a similar space three years back.  My deepest sympathies.

If you want to talk to someone who has BEEN THERE.  Hit me up with a DM.  Otherwise, take damn good care of yourself and we'll be here if and when you make it back.

Don't know how things currently are for people, but I kind of just wanted to give everyone who's having a rough time an internet hug, right now.

Re: [OOC] Party Discussion

Thanks Kamea.

The past few weeks have been 6am-9pm puppy duty.
I got my first 8 hours of sleep in a while last night.

My father's surgery is scheduled Wed, so hopefully things will get a bit better after that.

Multiple puppies at once is always a big duty. And it's not remotely your only Big Deal going on. Pretty sure we'd rather you be healthy than rush anything.

So, my father's surgery went ok. It took a while for him to recover, but he's pretty good now, no remission.

I have not had the mental energy to run this game and I apologize for getting everyone's hopes up.

Re: [OOC] Party Discussion

My friend.

Global pandemic, father's surgery, election, and everything else that has happened.  You're very kind for apologizing, but you do not owe us an apology, as you have done nothing wrong.

Please take care of yourself, and we're here if you need to talk, or just escape for a while.

Re: [OOC] Party Discussion

Hi everyone.

So, my father is still doing well, although I lost a friend over the holidays rather unexpectedly (he wasn't even 40 yet). He wasn't super close, but the suddenness of it was still quite a shock to everyone involved.

The only problem is that I look at the tangled web of Godbound and it seems really, really unmanageable at the moment.

I haven't been mentally ready to run this game, but I'd like to start running a game again. I was thinking of running something a lot lighter, though I thought I'd give you all first dibs since I'm so happy with the players in this game.

How's everyone doing?

Mm, surprise relocation and the end of a family relationship, but everything else is coming up Milhouse. I'd be happy to look at anything else you want to put together.

I can empathize with your lost. My oldest friend past suddenly last year. Not even 25.

I exist and wouldn't mind seeing what you have in mind at least. Stuff is rough for me, tonight.

I'm... pretty close to the end with a beloved dog. Tonight in particular is... the worst she's been.  16 years as of Early January. She's an old girl, but mrr... It's rough here tonight.

Re: [OOC] Party Discussion

Hi everyone.

I wanted to give some breathing space and think about what to run.

Would anyone be interested in playing Fellowship or Sprawl?

Both are PBtA (Powered by the Apocalypse) rulesets.

For those who don't know, that's a game that concentrates on co-operative world building and highly narrativistic play (but not without rules like a lot of other narrative games). The players have a LOT of input in this style of game.

Fellowship is a game where players play exemplars of their race/tribe/group in a fight against an evil Overlord or an Evil Empire. They have a wide range of freedom in determining what their race actually is.  I've seen this used to run Star Wars and Transformers, so it's pretty wide ranging. The examples most people give though are Avatar: The last Airbender and Fellowship: Lord of the Rings (of course).

Sprawl is a cyberpunk game with a similar rule set. Players create characters based on various archtypes in classic Cyberpunk lits, and we come up with the world together. The game is heavily focused on the specific narrative of doing jobs against megacorps before they find out what's going on and crush you. World creation is a significant part of the fun with this one.

There's also World Wide Wrestling, which is a PBTA wrestling RPG which I'm fond of. Unlike most Wrestling RPG's, it acknowledges that wrestling is scripted, and the goal is to have good matches and develop angles and not get horribly injured or fired. This last one seems like a long shot though: it's almost a league rahter than a campaign. I'd bring in more people for this one.

The first two are probably better options. Fellowship is one of the best RPG's made in the last 10 years. Sprawl is my go to for heist games like Cyberpunk or Shadowrun (which don't have the best rules IMO).

Do any of these options sound appealing?

Re: [OOC] Party Discussion

The premise of those games is good, but every time I try something PbtA it's a kind of miserable experience for me. That may have something to do with an awful DM on my first major outing, but that doesn't really explain the subsequent flops.  I think my main thing with PbtA is that the dice feel weighted to push a 'fail forward' angle and I like to feel more... competent than they let you feel?

If that's what everyone wants I'm at least willing to give it a go but figured I'd share past experiences honestly about it.  Between the two... Fellowship is more interesting, but I could operate with either.
