The outer city was a fairly wild and wolly area around the docks, but the customs officials made sure that the larger central docks were well maintained and orderly. The place was bustling with commerce.
The tavern you were at was a large one, well made and clearly prosperous (and somewhat expensive, though it was no drain on your finances). The wood and furnishings were simple but well made and fully varnished, and the place was not filthy as many metropolitan taverns.
From inside, a very odd music played ambiant music (

The smells of cooking fish and herbs were quite pleasant, and many seemed to be enjoying a chilled sweet wine, mint tea and other drinks. Bread seemed to be in short supply, though it was available (but expensive).
The place was crawling with captains and officers from various ships of countless nations (very few of their crew could afford this place), well to do merchants having a nice dinner before returning to their home, and off duty customs officials who got a substantial discount eating there. It was quite a multicultural group, even for Vissio, though all seemed to have money.
It was not a particularly busy time of day, which was good, as your crew was taking up a very large portion of the inn.
