Warintla - Gathering Hall

The gathering hall was one of the bigger buildings at the outpost, standing over two stories with its concave roof and covering a lot of land. Everything about its construction was thick and sturdy, built to endure the cold elements.

The first floor was mostly open area, having plenty of room to walk by despite all the things occupying it. Various but robust tables, benches and chairs were placed about, sometimes grouped oddly by whoever was using them last. There was a large but movable bulletin board often nearby, having different maps, sketches and lists pinned to both sides, with writing implements and paper provided.

Metal furnaces were evenly spread out to keep the place warm, each having a little wood pile by its side, which were fed by a larger pile by the entrance. Chandeliers above provided most of the light, but some windows were present as well (one of which was completely boarded up).

Large double doors led to the kitchen in the back, and next to that were some offices used for paperwork and logistics. Two wide sets of stairs at opposite corners led up to the sleeping quarters, which was mostly bunk style bedding for the sake of housing as many hunters as possible. Above that was an attic, which was rumored to hide the chieftess’ personal stash…

Warintla - Gathering Hall

From Warintla - Outside

GM:
Leon was assisted to one of the larger buildings before the town hunters went off to sweep the town one last time. It must have been the gathering hall, having more open area with large tables and benches and a big bulletin board. There was probably a kitchen in the back and lodging upstairs. The place wasn’t much warmer than outside, as all the fireplaces (which there were several of) had been put out, but at least the wind was gone.

People started to creep out of hiding in the darkness, dressed fully for the cold. Among them was a small and old wyverian woman, who approached Leon directly. “Well you sure took your time getting here. We were beginning to think the ship crashed in transit. I take it our uninvited guests have been evicted with extreme prejudice?”

A similarly dressed poogie came wandering out as well, taking an interest in the unfamiliar hunter, sniffing at his ankles.

Leon:
"Yes, the Blangonga and his troop are gone," Leon said, nodding as he did so. "All of the Blango that we have seen are dead, the Blangonga hightailed it after we severely injured him. Two of my group are tracking him down, possibly to make sure he's dead."

Leon rubbed his shoulder, then tilted his neck until he felt it pop. Satisfied, he continued. "Unfortunately, the ship did crash on the way here. I'm not too certain myself what happened as I was still inside, but the ship was nearly lost in the chaos. I'm honestly shocked that we didn't have any casualties."

The wyverian woman closed her eyes and groaned at the ship’s fate, then took a breath as she rubbed her temples. This is why I drink…” She murmured before collecting herself. “Where did it crash?”

Assuming Leon gives a rough idea of where the ship is.

“Well it certainly could be worse, now couldn't it?” The woman remarked, taking a moment to knock her knuckles against a nearby table. “I hope you slept well on the ride in, because we’ve still got a long night ahead of us. I’ll see what can be done about getting the ship’s cargo here. Pretty sure the Blangonga got into the stables... Make yourself useful in the meantime, find something to do.” She waved Leon off before heading for the back. “I need a freaking drink…”

"Right..." Leon muttered as the older woman walked off. "Well, might as well pop open my bowgun, see what's making that rattling sound..."

The man then did exactly that, moving to a nearby table and inspecting his damaged bowgun. Even if he didn't have the parts to fix it on hand, he could at least tell the local blacksmith where to look.

"I need to go get my Charge Blade, too, now that I think about it." Leon mumbled. "Eh, one thing at a time."

With more effort than usual Leon managed to start getting his bowgun apart. The ejector wasn’t putting out and the receiver wasn’t taking, and to make things worse the magazine release wouldn’t let go, and the forward assist wasn’t helping anything.

The poogie continued to meander around, snorting to itself, but went mostly ignored as people were busy with other things. One man started trying to get the fires going again, opening the air shutters, stirring any coals, then placing in some wood varying from kindling to logs. At the same time a felyne was climbing up the support beams to light oil lanterns that hung from the sides. Both of them were sniffling and coughing, sometimes wiping their noses. The man cursed when he sneezed a loogie onto an oven.

A door in the back banged open and revealed the howling of wind again. Common courtesy in the snowlands would dictate the door then be shut immediately, but it remained open and the cold draft could soon be felt in the mess hall. There were voices, heavy movement, clattering, and Leon picked up on the grunts of an upset Popo.

"Well, bowgun is well and truly fucked. Guess I do need a blacksmith to help." Leon muttered darkly, leaving the parts on the table for now as he looked towards the sounds.

"What's wrong now?" Leon asked the nearest person, unable to clearly see through to the kitchens, where he heard the noise sounding from. He idly noted that maybe, just maybe, he needed to go to bed.

Thandraug proceeded toward the Gathering Hall, After securing his stuff he made his way toward the Gathering Hall to free himself of his armor for some flexibility and comfort. Up ahead the building seemed to match what little description he had to go off of. When he arrived he could feel the ever so slightly warming atmosphere of a roaring fire. Before he could unwind for a bit, he became aware of the commotion coming from the other side of the room and was naturally a bit curious.

"Everything peachy over there?" He asked as he paced further into the hall.

Warintla - Gathering Hall

To clarify, there’s three areas on the first floor (barring future edits).
-The open mess hall, at the front.
-The kitchen, at the back on one side. It’s separated from the mess hall by a set of two way double doors, but also has a back entrance from the outside.
-Office rooms, at the back on the other side. Probably has a back entrance too.

The chilling wind was cut off with a thump, letting the rest of the clamour be heard more clearly as it worked its way through the kitchen. “Easy, c’mon, this way -no -shit!” Pots and utensils crashed to the ground with full force, aggravating an already distressed popo. The work animal cried out, slammed into something heavily, then cried out and crashed again, launching more cookware and scattering those escorting it. “Woah, woah!”

When the two hunters poked their heads in, it was quickly apparent that the popo was missing one of its tusks and had patches of its fur ripped off. Though somewhat large with multiple pathways, the kitchen didn’t have much open space, let alone enough for a large rampaging animal. Lantern lights danced around the room as the people trying to guide the herbivore gave it berth, more afraid for their own safety. Over the counter tops at the far back of the kitchen area, a couple of younger popo could be made out, just as distressed though not as destructive as their elder.

Spoiler for Leon: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Leon knew the first thing going through the popo’s mind was probably the safety of its young.

Spoiler for Thandraug: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Thandraug noticed the popo shudder whenever it stepped on a certain leg. It also seemed to be trying to turn around, but couldn’t effectively in the tight path.

"She's trying to get to her kids..." Leon muttered, watching for a while longer. After watching those attempting to calm it nearly get hit, he discreetly waved to them while keeping an eye on the Popo. "Hey, let her be for right now. Get over here before you get hurt, let's try to plan this out. You're going to have to clean the kitchen back up anyway."

The people took Leon’s advice and just backed away from the agitated popo, generally getting behind a counter. The two younger popo ran to their mother’s cries, kicking around the fallen pots and pans, until they were prodding their mother forward. Once she knew her children were right behind her, the mother popo charged forward, bashing her way through the swinging doors and into the open area. As she passed, her limp and wounded leg became apparent to Leon.

“They’re all that’s left, the whole rest of the stable was killed.” One of the villagers explained to Leon. “We wanted to get them away from the others and somewhere where we could treat them.”
“Tough bitch actually killed one of the blangos.” A woman commented.

The popos continued to stampede around the mess hall, bumping through some chairs and tables but otherwise doing no real harm. Everyone stopped what they were doing and gave the animals their space, keeping an eye on them. The poogie, however, was excitedly curious and trying to get closer to see what all the commotion was.

"I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of an angry mother Popo either..." Leon muttered back to the woman. He stepped in front of the poogie and tried to keep it from getting too close.

"I don't have anything like that, all of that would be back on the ship. Doesn't matter anyway, my bowgun is ruined," he mentions to Thandraug. "Other than that, I can look in my med bag, see what I can do."

Warintla - Gathering Hall

Leon cut off the poogie before it ran into the path of the popos, preventing what could have been messy. The pig didn’t seem to get it though, and continued to try and get past the hunter and chase after the giant herbivores. There was a bang when the mother struck another table, the one Leon’s disassembled bowgun rested on, but fortunately nothing actually fell from the table.

Leon had supplies to calm and maybe eventually put the popo to sleep, and stuff to numb a certain area, but not enough to put the large animal down in a timely manner. Fortunately, “We have some stuff in the med bay, I’ll get it.” The mother started to calm down finally too, causing her children to do the same. They positioned themselves in a corner with the mother facing out, who still refused to stand down.

“I see bringing the popo inside went down about as smoothly as cheap whiskey.” The town elder grumped as she came in from the kitchen. “So on top of killing most of our work animals, the blangos got into our food supplies and had a well balanced meal. I suppose we should be grateful they only ate our food and not us… Anyway, we’re going to need to haul supplies from the airship ourselves, starting with the essentials, food. We have some sleds here that can be used.” The wyverian thumbed towards the back, probably the same direction the popo came from. “Get the kitchen cleaned up, scrounge what food is left and get something cooking.” She told no one in particular. “I’m sure everyone’s famished and we can’t drink on an empty stomach.” Regardless, people went about as instructed.

The man returned with a box of medical supplies he thought would be necessary, including a bottle of high strength tranquilizer fluid.

Spoiler for Leon: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Because of their familiarity with humans, the popos could be approached despite their agitated state, so long as one didn’t alarm them. Pricking the mother or poking at her injuries could be dicey however.

"Alright, thanks. I'll take it from here, I think." Leon said as he took the bottle. He loaded an empty syringe with the fluid, looking at her and gauging just how much he would need. "Hey Thandraug, I may need your help once I put her to bed. If she rolls on her injured side, I need help rolling her over."

That said, Leon carefully walked over to the mother Popo, making sure he was in her sight at all times with the syringe hidden. Once he was within arm's reach, Leon began stroking her uninjured side to try and comfort the wounded animal.

"There there, everything's gonna be alright..."

Once sufficiently calmed and distracted, Leon found a spot that would hopefully be not as sensitive and jabbed the Popo with the needle, swiftly injecting the fluid and promptly backing away to wait for the tranquilizer to kick in.

The mother popo let Leon approach, and tilted into his hand as he pet her, letting out a low whine. When he suddenly stabbed her with the needle though, she cried out and swung her tusk at him, knocking away the hunter. Most but not all of the tranquilizer was injected before being pulled out with Leon, some of the fluid splashing the floor.

Luckily, the popo did not aggress Leon further, just whine to itself more. Her young had been startled but didn’t do much either. The poogie came dashing out from under the massively larger herbivore though, apparently underfoot without being seen. After getting some distance away though, the pig circled back around, still looking to play like an excited dog.

A few minutes passed and the popo became increasingly groggy. It could barely keep its head up, but fortunately had enough to sense to lie down on its uninjured side before passing out entirely. The poogie had enough sense to get out of its way too. Seeing their mother take a nap, the two kids lied down to do the same. It was night time after all.

"There we go, good girl." Leon quietly said, going to get his bag. After going back, Leon pulled out a razor, some anti-septic, a needle, and some thread. He also reloaded the tranquilizer, in the event he needed it.

Leon liberally applied the anti-septic on both the open wound and where her tusk used to be.

"Mmm...can't do much here..." He muttered to himself, overlooking the damage in the Popo's mouth. He then took his razor and carefully shaved off some of the hair around the open wound on her leg. Once bare, he applied a little more anti-septic and began sewing the injury up, followed by placing a bandage over it to keep its exposure to the outside world limited.

The smaller injuries were likely already scabbed up by this point, but were worth looking over as well. Once finished, he placed all of his equipment back in his bag, and capped off the tip of his syringe to avoid it punching through his bag.

"There, that should do it."

As he entered the gathering hall, Gaige took a moment to look around. "What happened here?" He asked as he approached Leon, glancing around the room. Upon seeing the Poogie, Gaige knelt down on the floor with the hopes it would approach. "Well hey there, little guy!" He cooed, holding out a hand to pet it. He couldn't help it; he had a soft spot for animals.

"Ah, welcome back. I just finished patching up this Popo, she and her kids were making a mess," Leon greeted with a wave, packing his things up as he did so.

"Town Elder needs us to go pick up the food delivery for the town, at the very least." He then gestured to the larger Popo and her young. "Unfortunately, those Blango killed all of the Popo except for these three, and none of them are in any condition to pull a sled."

Leon sighed, then looked at Gaige. "What did you go out there for, anyway? Try to finish off the Blangonga?"

"Sort of." Gaige replied, petting the Poogie. "One of my swords were stuck in it's leg, so I went to go get it back. Luckily, we found it, but..." He scratched his head. "It's at the bottom of the river. That's why we came back; to try and get some help in retrieving it." Gaige paused, thinking for a moment. "Hmm... If we all work together, do you think we'd be able to pull the sled ourselves?" He suggested as a solution to Leon's predicament. "On the way there, maybe we can grab my sword; it has a hand guard on it, so maybe a grapple could hook it?"

Considering hunters are super human, pulling the sleds themselves would be feasible.
I figure having work animals do it would be prefered, but that’s not really an option right now.

The poogie reared up when Gaige called it and came right over, rubbing its face against him then leaning against him. Soon it was lying on its side looking for a belly rub.

“We can grab that idiot in the mosswine armor. He should at least be good for carrying stuff.” The huntress mentioned while she scuffed the snow off her boots against the door carpet. “We can look through the tool shed, there’s some long handle tools we could tie together. Worst case, someone takes a dive… We’d want blankets.”

A couple larger tables had been moved towards the kitchen and food was being put out buffet style. It was all very basic stuff that was quick to prepare, most of it just boiled. Carrots and broccoli, potatoes and rice, milk, fish and eggs.
The place had warmed up just a little, but was still rather cool. It would take awhile for the large space to really heat up, and the doors constantly opening wasn't helping.

As said, for now you guys don't really need to wait for me.

"Alright, so we'll grab some blankets, stop by the tool shed, and get some extra muscle to bring the sled back..." Gaige mused aloud. "That sound good to you... uh... Leon, right?"
