Jelmine - OOC

As a note, you may notice that some characters have the same occupation, don't worry.  RQ is one of those great systems that allow for character growth, even if people start off with similar backgrounds.  I am confident that the characters are unique enough for there to be multiple of the same occupation.

Another rich note of the new backgrounds is that a lot of us may initially be predisposed to hate others in the group. :-)

Tamarkorda explicitly hates Lunars and Praxians, Oligur hates Praxians and Esrolians, Garik really really hates Lunars, Henetha though seems to have got through it all without hating anybody. I guess we can depend upon Honour to keep on track as suggested in the rulebook.

In reply to Tamarkorda (msg # 3):

Good points! I wish we could all be more like Henetha.
Since Oligur got two distinctive scars on the left leg, I'm thinking he had his leg reattached TWICE during the pre-game campaigns, which could make one irritable.
Of course all of those battles and subsequent sources of hatred were fought in order to dominate the lands of the folks he now hates...

Thinking of having Garik buying a load of ClearWine to take to Jeimine using a cart while taking the girl up there. And sitting up a market in villages as they go up there. Question does create market place make a sanctified spot for worship. So l can recharge my market spell along the way.

In reply to Garik Johnton (msg # 5):

Yes and no.
You need to make sure it is on an Issaries Holy Day in order to get the Rune Point back.
Tribal Markets, Wildeday, Mobility Week of each season is a cult holy day.

Also, as Issaries is the god of trade, and worship is a "trade interaction" between mortals and the gods, Issaries does get collateral worship when you participate in any Orlanthi worship service for seasonal or high holidays, even as a layperson (All Orlanthi cults are considered associated cults for this purpose).

No matter what, you will be starting with all of your Rune Points when you get to Jelmine.
Of course, Market day is 5 days from the start of the game (everyone's arrival in Jelmine).

I have been going back and forth with how to do character sheets.  RQ has a complex character sheet.  I've found an interesting spreadsheet, and I have created a file for each of you.  I will post a notice that has everyone's character sheet link.

I thought wild day was the holy day every week. If I sanctify a tent on that day and did business in towns and villages on the way on wild day. Would I be able to do a worship issaries for power gain? Not sure but I think it says that. Sacraficing 6 power over the normal 2 for holy day to increase the worship ritual.

I had StormTribe open in front of me.  You're right, the RQG says that every wildday is a holy day and market day.  So yes, you can recover your Rune Points on each market day as a minor holy day.

I've got it at 20% or thereabouts, so enough to get by.  I'm only fluent in Praxian and New Pelorian, however.

Re: Jelmine - OOC

30% trade talk for Tamarkorda : I think I read anything above 10% is fine as long as you are talking to someone who has it at >50%

If neither party has > 50% then the chance of correct communication is twice the percentage of the lower percentage speaker

Less than 10% is limited to very basic 'Me pig want'  sort of stuff.

My 50% pure horse tongue is also good for 5% New Pelorian or 25% Pentan

I think my 35% Firespeech is slightly better at 7% New Pelorian

Bingling has:
Speak (Darktongue) 70
Speak (Tradetalk) 50
Speak (Tarshite) 10
(The last would give 2% each of Esrolian, Heortling, and Old Pavic, but that's nada).

Re: Jelmine - OOC

I have uploaded a sketch of Jelmine, sorry upfront about my artwork.
The hill slope upon which Jelmine sits is terraced.  There is a main stair goes up the hill, and numerous paths that wind their way around the village.  At the very bottom of the hill is the fortification of the town, an ancient stone wall.

What is shown in the sketch are major locations.  There are some smaller huts and barns around.  I'll be posting another map in the days ahead that gives a different perspective of the town.

While wooden framed, all the traditional buildings are made of stacked slate

1 - Earth Temple
2 - A small hut embedded in the hill.  Home of Sandien daughter of Hasketu, shaman of Daka Fal.
3 - Garlin Longhouse
4 - Durten Longhouse
5 - Town forge, home of Bartien son of Almirin of the Durten Bloodline is the town Redsmith.
6 - Muval Longhouse
7 - Lunar Fortification - A wooden fortification.  There is a barracks, stable, officer's home, and a few shacks within the walls.  Accommodations are poor quality.
8 - Lunar homestead - This area contains a Tharsite longhouse and a few other buildings.  This houses a Tharshite family who manages the tenants.

There is a ravine that separates the traditional town from the Lunar fortification.  There is a path that wraps over the top of the ravine allowing for easier travel between the two sites.  This path is wide enough for one man on horseback to travel, and there is a gate that separates the two communities.  Normally this gate is open, but it can be quickly closed.

Bloodline longhouses:  Each of the bloodlines have a number of buildings and longhouses in their complex.  The hill is riddled with caves, and there is a cave entrance at each of the complexes.  These caves are used for food stores and defense; they can also house animals if needed.

Temple: The temple is a large stone block embedded in the earth.  There is a door, but no windows.  The roof is covered in grass, and there is set of stairs on either side that lead to the roof.  Traditionally, public ceremonies take place on the roof of the temple, with the onlookers standing in the courtyard below.  There is a large courtyard in front of the temple, large enough so that most of the town can be there for religious ceremonies.  Around the courtyard are shrines to the various gods honored by the people of Jelmine.

Defenses:  Save for the palisade walls that surround the lowest rim of the hill, the town of Jelmine relies on the natural landscape for most of its protection.  Outside of the terraced area, the slopes are exceedingly steep and treacherous with loose soil and rock.  It would take a determined foe to try to go up and around the hill.

There are paths that from Jelime further into the hills to the South.  Outside of the Palisade, there are hides that stretch out toward the north.
