The Game I Run (Read first)

So you're interested in applying to a Masks game? Good. I mean, why would you be reading this if you weren't?

I want to state first and foremost, however, that I run games a little differently than some other GM's, and I want prospective players to know this before they decide whether to apply or not. So here goes:

1) My games are about half-and-half when it comes to the superheroing stuff and the non-superheroing stuff. In this case, quite a bit of time will be given to family and friend interactions, and the various trials and tribulations of being a growing teenager. If you want a greater ratio of combat and derring-do, this may not be the game for you. I'm not saying there won't be action at all, but there may be less than standard superhero games. The reason for this is because

2) I believe rounded characters are more interesting. True to most PbtA, I'm not insisting on huge long character backgrounds- much of this may be built while the game is in process- but orphans with no siblings, no hobbies, no job, no extracurricular activites, and no friends outside of the other PC's? Not my cup of tea. Yes, the Janus playbook will be 'hit' more with this, but everyone should have relations.

3) Comic book physics / chemistry / reality is a thing. This reaches from not worrying about just tearing off a car bumper when you're lifting it, to not being overly concerned about flying at the speed of sound. Also, if you've read this far and are planning on applying, make sure you put the words 'neon green' at the end of your character app. That will let me know you've actually read this.

4) Secret identities will -mostly- be held sacrosanct unless the plot demands otherwise. Much like comic book science, I will err (and I expect the players to err) on the side of 'what makes a fun story'. Everyone should be able to, at some level, pass as 'normal humans'. Game's going to be set in a high school, and aliens and superpowers, while existing, aren't exactly every day occurrences.

5) I expect folks to play nice with each other, and remember this: Make sure your character is one that would be willing to work with the others. You're already a burgeoning team, and I've seen quite a few games die just due to characters that need a special yank to get them to go fight crime. It's a given that you -want- to do good things with your abilities. I'm not insisting on white knights or super-gleeful types (though those can be fun, too), but I really don't want to have to sidetrack myself or other players to get you to join in on missions and other fun.

6) Fun. I want players to have it. I want to have it as well. If something isn't fun, be willing to talk to me about it. Trust me. I want fun for everyone in this.

7) Posting status. If you wish to apply, you'll be held to a 'unless the real world comes crashing down on you' post-at-least-once-every-three-days standard.
