Re: Chult 1: OOC

Don't be facetious, it means I have to spend time looking through the Serpent Kingdoms book trying to find an obscure damn' reference that vaguely called itself to mind. ^_^

The kingdom in question (and there's only one, and modest is being generous) is 'Kalran' and it's a client of Najara, formed as a 'kingdom' in the true sense of the word with a militaristic culture based around tribal settlements under a single ruler.

But that's due largely to Yuan-ti and the like, so it can probably be discounted.

Re: Chult 1: OOC

*chuckle*. Wasnt trying to have you research names and such. More just saying I havent named 'your tribe', so feel free to put something in your background, and Ill run with it.

The name for your mentor, the Shamen though I have...Hes 'Redscales', as his scales have an unusual red tint to them.

I also havent come up with a name yet for the Yuan-Ti Empire...Was waiting for something to percolate through the creativity in my brain. It'll pop up soon enough. If you have something in mind, I dont mind using it.

and that goes for everyone in the game..whatever you put in your backgrounds I will use.

one other not so seriously, and a possible old friend thinking of joining.

Once our last two recruits find there way here and post, Ill open up a new OOC so everything from here on out will be in the new game. Ill get initial role playing threads to gather the group in Port Nyranzaru in the next couple days. Figure out how you got from where you were to here and post that in your initial post.

I will be reviewing character sheets tomorrow. I wont be changing anything, just making sure I have a handle on everyones capabilities, so if you get PM's from me...you know the deal.

I haven't named them either, but feel free to come up with something while I play Storm of Zehir for a bit. Redscales works as a name with the whole Darkwater bit I've got (leaving the first name to be my personal one I won't share with folks in case they use it to magic me), and just take a look in Serpent Kingdoms, it's crammed full of Yuan-ti cities and empires, they're all over the shop. ^_^

Heyla. ^^

I'm Kimiko, a specialist in water and metal magic. In addition, I'm quite useful as a scout and, to a limited extent, as a tracker.

Nicolai is much better, doubtless, and Migeal is likely a more dangerous arcanist in the general sense, but what I do, I do very well.

I hope to uncover many secrets with you!

And hush about the fox spirit thing. I'm just an elf!

Heyas all,

My character is Syntari en'Rhistel (the second part is his patronym - Rhistel is his father), from Silverymoon.  Probably the runt of the litter, gamepower-wise, but hopefully he'll come into his own in another level or so, so bear with me.

Nice to see a couple of other Elves around (Nicolai, Kimiko)...  but Syntari speaks Dwarven as well, and even tolerates Dwarven ale... in a pinch...

Thank you for brightening our day!!!

Question for you all-

On Criticals.

Do you wish to use a variant for the adventuring here.

Paizo (Pathfinder) made a Critical Hit Deck (and coincidntly a Fumble Deck as well) Its pure role playing fluff. When you roll a critical hit, instead of confirming a crit you pull from a deck (I have converted the deck to tables roll d52 and check results.)

Here's an example as if Id rolled 15 for the 'confirmation roll'

Piercing weapon:
15. Hand Wound - Normal damage and 1d2 Dex damage. -4 penalty on all rolls using that hand until healed

Slashing Weapons:
15. Wide Open - Normal damage and target provokes attacks of opportunity from all threatening opponents

Bludgeoning Weapons: (DC is damage taken)
15. Crunch - Double damage and target is nauseated for 1 round (Fort negates)

Magic (if there is an attack roll to hit):
15. Turned Around - Double damage and target can take only one move or standard action next round

conversely Fumbles-

on a roll of a 1 on an attack: you roll a d52 and match it to the tables

Melee:
15. Shield Crash - Your attack deals damage to your shield

Ranged:
15. What are the Odds? - If you made a thrown attack, you hit the target, but the weapon ends up in the target's possession

Natural:
15. Fist Meets Face - The attack hits you and is a critical threat. You must roll to confirm the critical hit

Magic:
15. Arcane Fire - You take 2d6 points of fire damage

If the roll results in something that is impossible, treat as normal

This is purely optional. If the consensus is no...then no. if its yes then yes.

Just thought Id give you guys something different to talk about and consider.

Just cut and paste this last part into your next post

Vote for Crit/Fumble Variant

Yes:

No:

[Private to Balrok: Are your skills correct? It seems you have shortchanged yourself. I counted 38 ranks...and If im not wrong (i didnt look to see if you were putting ranks in 'cross class skills') you should have 44]

I like the idea of randomized crits, not so much the idea of randomized fumbles (more, err, dread that way).

So:

Vote for Crit/Fumble Variant

Yes: X  (Crits)

No: X  (Fumbles)

Re: Chult 1: OOC

Nothing wrong with making crits more exciting, but I despise fumble systems for the most part because of the way they turn serious combat scenes into bad slapstick. Also there's a bunch of other stuff I'd implement first. Oh, and adding excess things to an RPol game just slows it down some, but that's a niggle.

Re: Chult 1: OOC

If you can post the table somewhere so we can look it up ourselves, I'm in favor of both crit and fumble.  If you cannot, then I'm not, because I don't want to slow down the action to have you look it up each time and inform us before we can finish a post.  Just my two cents.

Re: Chult 1: OOC

I can post them. I already have them done up. Still waiting to hear from the others, but based off what Im seeing here. Fumbles would be out and Crits would be in.

and Killian- all it would add is a d52 confirmation roll instead of a d20 confirmation roll ;)

"Hmmm.  And there, indeed, lies the rub.  Mind you, I shall not speak a word against your Dwarven conventionalism -  my kind have our own traditions, after all - but must you insist so on recreating the same flavor in your ale, some millenia after you have been given the option of using water instead?"

Re: Chult 1: OOC

OK Ive gone over all the sheets. (at least that I have) Our Red Knight hasnt sent his over yet.

Most are done. 1 has a lot of questions, a couple have 1-2 questions.

This is a Magic Heavy and Fighter Light group..and with 3 people having the noncombatant Flaw...It will be interesting to see what happens when your 'fighter front' cant keep the baddies from swarming the casters.

but itll be fun I garontee it ;)

No for introductions

My thoughts-

Nicolai and Balrok will be looking for clues of Ovi's disapearance in Port N, Ill weave in a connection to the appearance of the statue.

Syntari was on a Halruaan Skyship on his way to Halruua and had every intent of catching the first ship there when he reaches Port N...the ship crashed near Killians 'stomping grounds' under suspicious grounds. Killian investigated and found this poor wayward elf in the jungles...and volunteered to guide him back to Port N (it wouldnt be right to leave him to fend for himself ;)  )...Ill give Syntari a hook to keep him in chult once hes there...Killian knows the folks in Ketts Rapids...

Bearroch and Migeal are coming in from Calimshan on a ship for whatever reason they want to give...and have gotten to know each other on ship.

Kimiko is 'walking' there (so to speak) and is drawn by the appearance and subsequant 'ripple' on the spirit plane, of said statue...her curiosity piqued...

how does that all sound?

I wanted to post the intro tonight, but am waiting for at least 2-3 of the current players to get back with me on the questions Ive asked.

If Bearroch doesnt have his sheet over in the next couple days, we will start without him and he will have to come up with another reason hes there.

One and the same, sir!  Do you know Grom or something?

... can we see in your fog?  I have a feeling that fog and colored lights might be just as likely to end with Balrok crashing into the swamp as the monsters.... I think my Spot and Listen checks are negative. :)
