Chult - Ovi's Problem

Ovi:
Ovi will attempt to make his way around the clearing towards the woman.

As he approaches, he will reach into his bag of tricks and draw out an animal (rat). As he gets close enough to where he thinks his skill will likely fail him in approaching silently, he will release the rat and give it a signal to run out ahead of him. His intent will be that hopefully she will her the rustling of the rat, and then when she sees it, maybe he would have been able to get close enough, using the noise it made running through the brush as a disguise.

He will make an effort to stay behind cover, so if she does notice him, she will not get a shot off.

He would like to get close enough so he could attack with his chain, if possible.

22:38, Today: Ovi rolled 11 using 1d20+8. Bluff with Rat.
22:34, Today: Ovi rolled 38 using 1d100. Bag of Tricks.
22:34, Today: Ovi rolled 8 using 1d20+3. Hide.
22:34, Today: Ovi rolled 12 using 1d20+3. Move Silently.

Ovi slipped closer and pulled his rat from his bag, sending it scampering on ahead.  The girl whirled, though whether at the noise from the rat, or the noise from Ovi, and raised her bow.

Somehow though, she still failed to spot the dwarf, and turned her attention back toward the trail where the kuro had run.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

That all seems fine to me.

Ovi will continue to move to try to get within 10' reach of his chain. He has a 20' movement, and would like to move silently, since she hasn't seemed to have heard him  yet.

If spotted, he will check if she seems hostile or not. He will make a non-threatening gesture (using Bluff), saying he doesn't mean to hurt her, he just wants to chat, to see if she will hold her attack and talk.

If that does not work, he will try to get to her as quickly as possible.

13:43, Today: Ovi rolled 22 using 1d20+8. Bluff (if needed).
13:40, Today: Ovi rolled 11 using 1d20+3. Hide.
13:40, Today: Ovi rolled 13 using 1d20+3. MS.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

As Ovi probably suspected it would, his luck suddenly ran out, and the woman whirled to face him, an arrow pointed at his chest.

Still, his open hands and pleasant smile seemed to convince her at least a bit.  She held the bow and didn't fire... yet, though she seemed more than a bit suspicious.

"What are you doing here!?  What do you want?"

The first comments tumbled out in a rush, then she seemed to get ahold of herself and the next comment was a bit calmer and accompanied by a nasty smile. "If I were you though, I'd stop right there.  Come any closer and I'm shooting."

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Nothin' t' worry 'bout dear. I ain't commin' any closer. Just interested in talkin' a bit. Hell, that's 'bout all ya can do in dis heat, without burnin' up an' sweatin' like a ogre in a fur coat.

Truth is, I'm a business man on important business. An', sorry t' say, yer kuro buddies are muckin' up da works. Now, the sooner I get t' that business, then sooner I can get t' a comfortable place, have a few drinks, raise some hell, an' enjoy meself. But business is business.
He will sigh, before continuing.

Now, I'll be straight wit' ya. I'm wit' about 12 other cutters who, jus' 'bout now should be finishin' off yer kuro buddies. Now, I'm a sucker for a pretty woman, an I know how crazy me brudder can get wit' his axe, so I'd hate t' see dem put a mark on dat mug o' yers, when der done. So I convinced dem t' let me talk wit' ya while most o' dem finish up wit' dose oder guys.

So I'd like t' offer ya a deal. Ya let me know what yer game is an' promise ya won't try anythin' cross, an' I won't have me buddy Eisac put an arrow in ya, an' I'll do me best to hold me brudder off when he gets here.

While he says the latter, he gestures towards the trees, where the rat might be scurrying about, attempting to bluff that he is being covered.

If more rolls are needed...

01:28, Today: Ovi rolled 9 using 1d20+8. Bluff.
01:28, Today: Ovi rolled 11 using 1d20+7. Diplomacy.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

The girl grinned, or maybe it would be more appropriate to say that she bared her teeth.  Something in the look reminded Ovi of the snarls of some of the bigger cats that roamed the grasslands of the Shaar, above the Great Rift he'd called home.

"Businessmen, are you?  If only twelve of your friends can handle a whole tribe of kuro, then your business is much like my own.  Some call it fighting.  I call it hunting.  What do you call it?"

Ovi was somewhat startled to see the tip of the arrow drop from it's aiming point at his chest.  The girl still held the bow ready, but the string wasn't drawn any more.  She leaned back slightly against the tree, her hand dipping into a pouch that hung at her hip.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Heh, I s'pose "huntin'" would be as good a term as any fer my trade. So what 'xactly are ya huntin' fer and what an' why ya messin' wit' a lot o' kuro? Surely an' attractive dame like yerself could find better company den dat lot.

Ovi will continue, trying to get a better feel for the situation. It was good she had relaxed, that seemed to suggest she hadn't called his bluff yet. With any luck, he could get out of this without taking an arrow for their altruistic mission.

She raised an eyebrow, then shrugged, "Well, my little friend, I'm here with some friends, hunting that most elusive quarry... wealth.  The kuro are... useful.  Perhaps, my friendly little 'hunter', you and your 'cutters' would like to join in?"

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Ovi grins. Now yer talkin' my game. Me an' me brudder are always lookin' fer a good coin. Or better yet, lots o' good coins. He rubs his hands together.

So if yer lookin' fer goods, who decided t' saddle up wit' a kid an' slow down da operation?

He asks as he gestures towards the boy.

He shakes his head from side to side. Hell, where are me manners. If'n were gunna be workin' together, I best introduce meself. The names Ovi, and you are? He says as he steps forward, reaching out his hand in a handshake.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

The girl looked Ovi up and down a couple more times, then shrugged and lowered her bow. "Most people call me Rowan."  She extended her own hand to shake Ovi's.

"The boy was just someone the kuro had already found.  They want to sacrifice him to some demon lord so that the jungle will keep feeding them and that their demon keeps the big lizards hunting somewhere else."

"Since we need the kuro happy so that they're not hunting us, the boss said to just let them go ahead.  It's not like it's any skin off our noses."

"Maybe we should go and help your 'cutters' out, before the kuro finish them off on their own."

She jerked her head back in the direction that Rand and the kuro had gone, as if expecting Ovi to lead the way.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Pleased t' meet ya, Rowan. Pleased t' meet ya. He says as he shakes her hand firmly. He then takes out a handkerchief, dabbing the sweat off his brow.

Boss, ya say? You mean you ain't in charge o' dis operation? Who is tha boss then?

He will start to walk with her in the direction of the others. He looks to the boy again and pauses.

Seems a waste t' be sacrificin' a boy t' some made up jungle-demons. He could run some errands, shine me boots, cook some meals.

An' since da kuro ain't in charge anymore, I see no harm t' lettin' him loose.

Provided she does not move to stop him, Ovi will take a moment to cut down the boy. 'sides, I dun really like fightin' too much so I ain't in too much of a hurry t' get der. Fightin's me brudder's specialty. I'd much rather take me time an' talk wit' a pretty lady while we make our way out der. Maybe dey'll be done wit' most o' it when we get der.

Is the boy conscious?

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Rowan sneered as Ovi moved to cut the boy down, but she didn't stop him.

She talked as he worked. "Buckman's the boss on this expedition.  He's the one paying the tab, so he's in charge."

The boy slumped as his bonds were cut, but he did seem to be conscious, though he leaned heavily on Ovi's shoulder.

As Ovi and Rowan kept talking, they started moving toward the clearing where Ovi's friends and the kuro still fought.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Boy, yer gunna need t' snap to it. We're gonna go mop up dem kuro. Now, if yer smart you'll stay out a sight while we do our thing. After dat, behave an' Ovi 'll take care o' ya.

He says as he moves with Rowan towards the fight. He will encourage the boy to try to walk on his own and will keep an eye out for a place where the boy might hide when they go to fight.

He looks at Rowan as she talks. Buckman, eh? Never heard a him. What's the word on him? He'll try to obtain more information about the boss and the rest of the group as they move along. He will ask questions like.

How long have they been working together?
How is he for a boss? Does he treat his people well? Does he pay well?

He will also attempt to gauge how loyal she is to him, and how secure of a grip the boss has on his agents.

As Ovi makes his way towards the group, he will keep in mind the back entrance, so they do not stumble on top of the main fight.

You might as well go ahead and give me a Sense Motive as well, just in case.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Ovi continued to walk along with Rowan, the boy limping along behind.  The sounds of battle were growing much closer.

Rowan answered your questions as you walked. "Buckman? He's a nobleman from Cormyr, but I don't think he gets along too well with the ohter nobles.  He's been out wandering for years, and I've worked with him for the last three years myself.  He's not the sort you want to cross if he can reach you with a blade.  He pays well, but he sort of fawns on that elf witch that tags along with him.  That's enough to turn a girl's stomach, that is.

Something about the way she glanced down at Ovi told the dwarf that she'd just added that last bit to watch Ovi's reaction.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

Buckman? Never heard 'o him.

Ovi returns as he strolls along the path, deftly, for a dwarf.

Fawnin' over an elf wench ya say? Man's got no tastes, if ya ask me. An' I know women. Dem elf wenches are too dainty. They have no fight in 'em. He says winking at her when she glances his way.

Sounds like we're almost der. Better get a move on. I know a way we can sneak up on da action an avoid da worst of it.

Ovi will move to approach the battle area from the rear/escape route they had planned for him to enter by.

Before moving into the battle, he will find the boy a place to hide in the brush, one he feels will be well concealed, and will instruct the boy to stay quiet and wait for them to return.

So how d 'ya like t' fight? We should coordinate so we can mow down da last a dem kuro.

He will ask Rowan how she likes to fight (e.g., melee, ranged) to get an idea of how she might help when the enter the battle.

Some rolls if you need them. Let me know if you need others.

Re: Chult - Ovi's Problem

She smiled down at Ovi and said, "I like to fight in lots of ways, but maybe we should sit this one out and see if your 'cutters' are as tough as you say they are.  If they're not, that just means that our shares will be bigger."

"What do you think?"
She leans back against a tree to watch Ovi.

OOC: You're close enough to take the 'tunnel' entrance if you want it.  There's a spot nearby where the boy can hide, but it doesn't look like Rowan's planning on following you in if you go.

Ovi grins. A woman after me own heart, talkin' 'bout gold dat way. He then gives a soft sigh.

It is me brudder doh, an' if I dun keep an eye on him, he'll pocket all da gold 'fore I get der. I need t' be keepin' an eye on him. 'sides good men like him an' da others can bring us more gold den startin' from scratch. If ya want t' watch me backside, I can 'ppreciate dat. Course, I'd much rather be watchin' yers. Heh.

He finishes with a flirtatious wink, hoping he might convince her to join him.

Ovi will help the boy find a hiding place and will check his weapons before sneaking off to see about his companions.

If Rowan changes her mind, he'll proceed with her, asking her to keep quiet as well.
