The three Rands heaved a sigh of relief and relaxed their guard.  Alowing their sword points to touch the floor.  Glad that's over with.  Is everyone well?

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Stepping back as the snakeman drops to the ground, he quickly scans the area for signs of futher trouble or surprises.
Nodding his head in the affirmative, he finds his throwning axe and checks it for damage before reseating it in his sling belt.
Wonder if the other one behind the alter thing there was trying to warn the place or just get away?.
He will take a walk around the sides of the room looking for anything out of the ordinary.
Sure not good dwarven work, still, it is safe enough for now. as he reties a few of his beard rows that had come loose.

The three Rands begin to walk over to the sorcerer and, before they begin to search  the creature, they look to Ynvaar.  Will come down from there you're making me dizzy with all that hanging upside down business.  They then kneeled at the sorcerer and begins to search him for any items of use, or some spell components that Rands could use.

OOC: Taking 20 on the search, if I may.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Searching slowly and methodically, Rand finds that the snakeman sorceror was wearing some sort of leather harness that doesn't appear to have even been scorched by the heat, a bag with an assortment of magically potent bits of this and that, and a bag with a few coins.

On the altar was a golden icon in the shape of a coiled cobra, and sitting in a small hollow on the back of the altar was another bag of coins and small gems.

All in all, and adding in the stuff you pulled out of the room with the cages, you end up with:

Harness

Masterwork bronze blowgun and case of 14 darts (poison evaporated)
Blowgun bears Dethek runes calling on the Disentangler, and looks to be of dwarven make

Golden icon of Sseth(looks like a golden coiled cobra)

3 bloodstones at 50 gp each
372 gp
357 sp
34 cp

Ynvaar gave Pug a 'thumbs up' gesture and a broad smile before eyeing the chamber suspiciously. Moving away from the silent warrior, the priest grasped his holy symbol and muttered a quiet prayer to the Foehammer.

OOC> Cast Detect Magic and scan the whole room. Not sure how many auras there are but I will attempt to identify each with spellcraft (+6).

Rands conscious warns him that destroying the place may go against Ubtao's balance, but then again the balance may not apply to "man-made" structures.  Rand  speaks to Ubtao, in his mind, and for guidance.

OOC: The harness shows an aura, though you can't decide what it is.  The golden snake icon shows a faint aura of conjuration magic.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Grom finds no signs of secret entrances or exits, unless you count the tiny crawlways that still appear every few feet along the floor.

[Private to Rand Al Thor: You don't get a direct answer from Ubtao, but you do know that the serpent folk are known for taking over existing structures and then altering them to their use, so it's likely that this place predates its use as a cult temple.]

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Rand silently delves into his mind to confer with Ubtao.  For a brief moment he stands there motionless, barely breathing.  He opens his eyes and looks to each member of the party before speaking, I think we should leave the place intact.  Ubtao teaches that life in the jungle is a symbiant circle.  There is a balance and he does not like that balance being disturbed.  This temple may have been home to something or someone else a century ago and these Yuan-ti may have simply taken it over.  Knowing that a strong rebuttal is probably forthcoming Rand quickly adds.  That does not mean that we cannot destroy the altar and idols to their false god.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Drawing a deep breath to offer the rebutal, Hemmel stops as Rands offers a compromise.  "Yes, that would be fine.  And as it so happens, I have just the magic to accomplish it."  When the party is ready to destroy the altar, he'll cast his spell (Soften Earth and Stone) on it.  Once it is softened, he'll start bashing it with his warhammer.  [Private to DM Jim: If necessary, I can activate the Shillelegh effect on my warhammer.]

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

The altar was soon a shapeless mass, but Ynvaar was still looking over the idol, and nobody seemed inclined to take it from the 12' warpriest without his permission.

OOC: There really seems to be nothing else here, so I'm with Grom.  What's next?  Back to Kincaide's quest?  Or something else?

OOC: Kincaid's quest seems dead unless he regains his human form.  How about we return to town for something new?

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Watching the statue melt down, he felt better at seeing a evil destroyed.
Gathering up any loose stuff from the group, he pads back to the others.
Well, i would guess since we have no idea where the  man was takeing us, we should head on back, though maybe we can go around the skeleton work force this time, dont think we need to come so close as last time.
Heading back on up the slope he comes up to the pit again.

Re: Chult: To the Fire Peaks

Ynvaar favoured Rand with a sceptical look, for like Hemmel, he too was in a 'smashy' frame of mind. Never the less, Chult had been ceded to Ubtao by Tempos and the other dieties many millenia ago and that was good enough for Ynvaar and though he didn't really understand why, he was wise enough to leave well enough alone and merely nodded as his friend spoke... and hoofed the altar once or twice with a giant armoured leg for good measure.

"This icon, though dedicated to the foul countenance of Sseth, is enchanted and may yet be retooled and rededicated to some higher purpose perhaps. I will carry it for us for now and examine it more thouroughly later. If it is truly irredeemable and evil in nature I shall destroy it myself.

That harness is also enchanted though I cannot tell what function it may hold. Perhaps warding or protection?
"

With the altar smashed, Ynvaar nodded again in satisfaction and slipped the black shafted arrow from his belt and drove it deep into the lifeless abominations skull. "I believe this is yours."

Without turning back to look at his friends the great cleric glanced down at the lifeless corpse before him with an appraising eye, like a butcher selecting the choicest cut of meat. "Aye friends, back to the town awhile eh?  I for one could really go for a cold foamy one just about now."

[Private to Grom Ironaxe: The statue was not melted down bud, only the altar was destroyed.]
