No, you got a sneak attack in on one of the mind flayers when they were flat-footed. Bonus 10 damage, if I recall. Also, that tanglefoot bag will interact interestingly with what I had planned.

You have the xmas gift of a natural 20, too - not a bad way to use it.

Hmm. Tanglefoot, caltrops. Cloud mind, sneak attack, repeat until out of power points.

Hey, can I use the paintbrush on living creatures? Maybe paint a mega mind flayer into a small harmless puppy or the like?

Out of contact 'till friday... basically if you could NPC me it would be great. Illianka'll keep fighting, finding ways to do the most damage she can, but if she falls below 1/5 HP she'll call the retreat. She won't skimp on using PP though.

You can try anything you like :p

I would suggest going for sneak attacks - there is cover to be had nearby (in fact, you are small enough to hide behind the edge of the pool), so if you wanted you could use it to make a hide check then go for a sneak attack. Plus, being closer to the cover than the ularthid is means it doesn't get the benefits and you do.

You know, I have absolutely no idea what would happen if you did that - I'll have to think about it. Normally it causes a dimensional tear that shifts everyone within 10ft to the astral plane...

Deepwalker wasn't within 10 feet of it.  He took two 5 foot steps back and because of his reach was at least 5 feet away to begin with.

Ok then, Deepwalker is still in the 'dark, with the svirf cleric & fighters. That would make it time to write his epilogue, since he is now free to go where he wishes.

Schnick, the paintbrush is a set of marvelous pigments with mild telepathy imbued into it such that it can draw what your mind sees. This has no effect on the game mechanic, but makes it harder to identify.


You know, with the things I can see Schnickle getting up to with this, I think it's almost artifact level of power. :D

And I think we once found a power stone or cognizance crystal, but we couldn't ID it. It was in the same loot as the paintbrush and device. I think Kharona or Yuthel took it, but we didn't hear from it again.

I didn't add my RoA birthday gifts, so I'll just make a note.

The mechanical device is effectively an illithid calculator. It was basically there as a red herring.
The small psychic stone makes people near it feel proud, and has a magnified effect when touched. Illithids find them comforting, and usually decorate their homes with them. That's also what the gems set around the brain chamber were - emotion stones.
The mind flayer cloak is completely mundane.
There was also a ring that grants a bonus power point somewhere along the way.

There was the Lolthan ring I got as well, that might have been it, since I never got told if it was magical or not ;)

Haah, and I levelled up. Ah well. Maybe there will be room for her in another game... I'll miss her, I guess. It was fun. ^^

Actually, that ring is about the most useful thing Illianka could have on the surface, and she doesn't know how to activate it.

It casts alter self 1/day.

Haha! I wonder how it is activated... I don't suppose it'll reveal itself? Most magic items tend to, eventually, sentient or not.

You need an identify spell, or something of the sort. There are a few options available, including the simplest, which is taking ranks in use magic device, then rolling a lot of checks. You need to beat DC 25, though.
